MODULE 2: GOOD CITIZENSHIP VALUES

ASSESSMENTS

Task 1:

Answer the following questions:

1. What do you observe in the lesson Good Citizenship Values? Why do you say so?

What I observed in the lesson Good Citizenship Values is that it talks about the
importance of having good values, manners, and right conduct. It teaches us of how we
can be a good citizen of our own country. It defines the true identity of us, Filipinos, and
how we manifest righteousness. Being a Filipino is priceless.
We have our own unique realness and sentiments. Our values make us distinct
from others. These values are vital to our lives as Filipinos since it is one of the foundations
in everything that we do and it reflects our diverse culture and traditions that enriched our
well-beings. It stimulates our sense of love and support to our country, leading to
nationalism and patriotism.

2. In your own words, define good citizenship values.

Good Citizenship Values is a collective of behaviors, attitudes, and qualities that

one must possess. It is the standards of how our actions are judged. It is the reflection of
one’s beliefs, culture, and traditions — making it unique from others. A good Filipino citizen
is someone who knows his obligations and responsibilities. It is also someone who is
respectful to all people, despite of their race, gender, size, age, status in life, etc. Having
values may be a potential contributor to one’s personal development, and in a larger scale,
to national development. It may influence our minds and the way we do things.
When you have good citizenship values, you are disciplined and aware of your
actions. You know the difference of what is right and wrong. In case you make mistakes,
you should take full accountability and face all consequences. Keeping the environment
clean, singing the national anthem properly, and having respect to our Philippine flag are
the few ways on how to be a good citizen.

3. How do you show your faith in the Almighty God? According to the discussion of Maka-
Diyos in this module, what is the first step that you should do to show faith in the Almighty
God?

Whenever I feel tired, lost, or sad, I pray to the Almighty God to give me strength
and guidance to get through all the obstacles and problems. He is my light during my dark
times. Whenever I feel happy, ecstatic, or satisfied, I also pray to Him to show how grateful
I am for the blessings, for all that he has done for me and for the people around me. Every
time I start my day, I lift my prayers to God. It makes me feel motivated and empowered.
Another way to show my faith in God is to live my life in the best way that I can. I
know that He has plans for me and my family. Challenges may come, but I believe that
the Lord will guide me all throughout my journey.
According to the module, the first that we should do in order to show our faith to
God is to live in line to His teachings, principles, and commands. As a good citizen and a
follower of the Lord, we should always live morally and harmoniously with others.

4. Prophet Jeremiah said ‘This is what the Almighty says: “when seventy years are
completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my gracious promise to bring you back
to this place. For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Almighty God, “plans to
prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will come
upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.”’ Using the prophecy of the
Prophet Jeremiah, how do you find your present and future with the Almighty God?

I feel like my present being is correlated with what my future being will be. Right
now, I can really experience the hardships and struggles, especially we are in a pandemic,
and that is okay. We all go through different stages in life. If you have an ambition, you
need to work hard for it and show them that you deserve it. Problems will come, but when
you surrender yourself to God and you let Him be the center of your life, He will reward
you. Just persevere and wait, God will shower you the blessings and the sweet taste of
success.
The Lord knows everything — my sacrifices, hard work, and my eagerness to
attain good life. I know that He has plans for me and I believe that he will take good care
of my future. I know that he will never let me down.

5. How can you show your respect for life?

A good person will always give the highest value and importance to life, whether it
is his own or others'. It is the greatest blessing that the Lord had given us. We, as humans,
need to live our lives as moral as we can. Respect for life begins within us. We should
take good care of ourselves — be aware of our own physical, mental, moral, spiritual, and
social well-being.
Being pro-life is one way to show respect for life. Being pro-life means that one is
against abortion, because it takes away a person’s right to live. To love and care for others
is another way to value life, that is why I, personally, show my care for others through acts
of service and volunteerism. I show my love for my family and friends. It is also necessary
to respect one freedom, but having independence does not mean that you can do
everything that you want. Remember that every action that you make has corresponding
responsibilities or consequences.
Life is worth fighting for, that is why protecting our rights is the best way to give
worth to life. Live your life to the fullest. Remember that life will always be beautiful,
precious, and most valuable treasure that we can have. So, keep it!

6. Have you ever been in love? Do you feel you are loved?

Love is universal and unconditional. Everyone can feel love. That being said, my
answer would be yes, I have been in love, but not in a romantic way. I love my family.
They are the ones that matter to me the most. They inspire and motivate me to strive and
work hard. I really want to give them the most comfortable and best lives that they can
have. That is my ultimate dream.
When it comes to friends, I only have a few. That is what I learned over the past
year. People will come and go, but what matters are the ones who stay by your side
despite of unexpected circumstances. I love my friends. They are my other source of
happiness and my go-to when I feel down. I enjoy their company as they keep me sane,
especially during this trying times.
I really feel that I am loved and valued by the people that I care about. They always
say it through words or show it through actions. They make me feel that I am important to
them. Love comes in various forms and I firmly believe that love should be reciprocal in

whatever way it may be. When you receive love, you should give back. Love lets us feel
that we are valued and worthy.

7. What is your standard of love?

For me, my standard of love would be unconditional love. If you really love
someone, you should love him/her just the way they are, beyond of what they look like, in
spite of their race, age, gender, color, social status, culture, etc. It should not be an agent
for judgment. Love should be the butterflies that you feel in your stomach. It should be the
unexpected smiles that appear on your face every time you are with him. It is all about
every little detail of him that makes you happy.
Always remember that the truest form of love is the best kind of love, whether it is
love for your family, friends, classmates, relatives, neighbors, and your significant other.
Love has no boundaries and limits. Love has no gender. Love will always be the color of
the rainbow. Love has no expectations. Lastly, love is about forgiveness.

8. The Golden Rule says “Do unto others what you want others do unto you”. What do you
think is the standard of love if we consider this rule?

Considering the Golden Rule, the standard of love would be reciprocity. Always
treat other people the way you wanted them to treat you. It also shows that you respect
them. When you treat them in a good manner, they will also treat you in a good way. When
you give others love and care, they will also give you the same thing. Love, under this rule,
is a matter of give and take.
As a member of society, if we consider this golden rule not just as a standard of
love but also as a part of our lives, we can live in a place where the word judgment would
not exist and we would feel the real essence of love.

9. What is the importance of the environment in the development of the society? Why do you
say so?

Our environment is important as our lives. It is where we get our basic needs and
resources. It is our main source of raw materials which we use in our everyday life. It helps

industries to keep on functioning. The living environment that we belong is vital for our
survival and for the development of our society.
It is also important for us to take care of our nature, and help conserve our natural
resources for the next generations to come. Sustainability is one key solution for issues
that is concerned with the environment. As societies grow, the environment suffers, that
is why we should maintain balance.
Our environment is also our shield against possible hazards and disasters. Without
it, we will be prone to destruction and loss of natural resources which is important in the
development of our society.

10. In your own ways, how can you contribute in the protection of the environment from its
threats?

I have always been in love with nature ever since I was a child. My mom would
always teach me how to take care of plants and tell me the importance of taking care of
our environment. I always care for the environment as it is the only home that we have,
and as a responsible human being, I have the obligation to protect it including the wildlife.
I contribute in the protection of the environment by educating myself first on the
different environmental issues. I join various clean and green programs whenever
available. In our household, we practice proper waste disposal and apply the 3Rs which
stands for reduce, reuse, and recycle. We always maintain our surroundings clean,
whether it is inside or outside of our home. We also grow plants at our backyard.
We need to preserve the beauty and wonders of nature. We should also conserve
our natural resources for the future generations to come. As responsible inhabitants and
steward of this planet, we have the duty to safeguard our environment in order to maintain
our ecosystem and biodiversity. We must cooperate, do collective effort, and play our parts
and roles effectively.

Task 2:

Instructions:

1. Cite personal incidents / moments in your life that you feel you have become:

a) Maka-Diyos

Whenever I feel demotivated and lost, I come and talk to Him. I always tell all
my problems, confess my sins, and ask Him for guidance, strength, and grace. I often
pray to give thanks to Him for all the blessings and for the life that he had given us. I
also pray for the safety and health of mankind; for the betterment and peace of the
world; to praise and glorify Him. I read the bible to keep myself connected with God
and to remind myself of His teachings. Every time we have exams, my schoolmates
and I would go to the church and pray for a moment.

b) Makatao

Last year, my friend and I volunteered to help the people who were severely
affected by Typhoon Ulysses. We also conducted a donation drive to garner clothes,
toiletries, hygiene kits, food, and raise financial help that was then distributed to the
victims. I always stick to my mindset that as a Filipino and a member of the society,
we must give help to those who are needy. It was such a long and tiring week, but
surely a fulfilling experience. It satisfied my heart and mind.

c) Makakalikasan

I feel that I am makakalikasan whenever I clean our home and throw waste
materials into the right place. I help maintain the cleanliness of the environment. I also
participate in various programs that has the mission to keep our surroundings clean
and in order because as stewards of nature, we have the obligation to do so. I support
businesses that upholds sustainability, who make eco-friendly products, and those
who give importance to the 3Rs — reduce, reuse, and recycle.

d. Makabansa/Makabayan

I feel that I am makabansa/makabayan because I give importance to our

diverse cultures, traditions, history, and customs. I uphold the moral values of being a
Filipino and pass it on to others by manifesting and applying it in my life. I also show
myself, being makabansa/makabayan through adherence to law because when I
follow the rules and regulations, I give importance to the people around me, my
citizenship, and my country — the Philippines.

2. Explain the details. What have you learned and realized out from that experience?

Based from what I have shared, I learned that values sum up of who we really are
as a person. It reflects everything about us. From all of the past events and experiences
in my life, I realized that we, Filipinos, are really one of a kind and unique with our cultural
heritage, values, traditions, and history. It is engraved in our hearts and minds, and it is
something that we should be proud of.
We are the products of the sacrifice, nationalism, and patriotism of our beloved
national heroes. They brought us to independence and peace. That is why we should give
thanks to them and give importance for their acts of bravery. The stories that we share will
all remain and live forever. It is something that we will tell to the future generations of this
motherland.

Task 3:

Instructions:

1. Identify at least five (5) strengths of Filipino character that you think you possess. Why do
you say so?

The five strengths of Filipino character that I think I have or possess are the following:

• Joy and Humor

• Hardwork and Industry
• Faith and Religiosity
• Pakikipagkapwa-tao
• Family-Oriented

I do believe that I possess these five strengths of Filipino character. First, I am a

jolly person and I really like to be happy around my family and friends. I am not the type
of person that shows personal struggles, I keep it to myself because I do not want others
to absorb my negativities. I know that this pandemic has really affected all of our lives. So,
I spread good vibes, especially nowadays, just to lighten things up.
Second, I always do my tasks and responsibilities with quality. I put effort in
everything that I do and I really like motivating myself in order to push myself to the limits.
When I want something, I would work hard to obtain my desires in life.
Third, I am God-fearing. This is what my parents have taught and passed unto me.
They will always tell us to pray to the Lord — to praise, glorify, and give thanks to Him.
Every time I deal with my own problems, I talk and surrender myself to Him and ask for
His guidance and help. I read the bible to motivate and keep positivity going within myself.
Fourth, I do love the company of other people. I am not that good at making the
first move when making friends, but when I do connect with someone, I tend to get
comfortable with that person. I really give importance, value, time, love, and effort in any
relationships that I have with other.
Lastly, I am family-oriented and love my family so much. They are my number one
support system. They mean the world to me. They will always have a special place in my

heart and I will do anything for them. I want to be successful in order to give the best
quality of life to my family. I have so much dreams for them and I cannot wait to achieve
those.

2. Identify at least five (5) weaknesses of Filipino character that you think you possess. What
are the steps do you take to change these weaknesses into strength?

The five weaknesses of Filipino character that I think I have or possess are the following:

• Lack of Self-Analysis or Self-Reflection

• Colonial Mentality
• Passivity and Lack of Initiative
• Bahala Na
• Mañana Habit

As seen from above, those are the weaknesses of Filipino character that I think
I possess. It is hard to change because it is a long process, but I really need to change
something, I would change it for the better. First in the list is that I lack self-analysis or
self-reflection. I sometimes forget to reflect on past experiences and wrong decisions
that I made. Maybe I need to assess myself more in order for me to be aware and
mindful of my own actions. It will also help me become more sensitive towards other
so that I would not hurt someone else’s feelings.
Second, I sometimes do feel that I get overly attached to other cultures that
makes me look like I have this colonial mentality, but the thing is that I just really enjoy
learning and doing things that other people do. By doing so, I get to embrace diversity,
and to have knowledge about what goes beyond our own traditions and norms.
Nevertheless, I do support our locals, especially in this time of pandemic. I really love
everything about our country. There is no doubt about it.
The third one is passivity and lack of initiative. This is what I really need to
change. Most of the time, I get lazy and forget to initiate myself to do certain daily
tasks. My attention is mostly on screen, either scrolling on social media or playing
games, and that really hinders my productivity. I think one big step towards change is

to focus more on my priorities. Maybe I just need to do bullet journals and planning to
keep myself on track. In that way, I could be more productive, efficient, and motivated
in doing my tasks with integrity.
Fourth is “Bahala Na”. This phrase is common within Filipinos. It ruins your
quality of work and leads to procrastination. The term came from the words “Bathala
na”, which reflects that we ought to depend everything that we do to the Lords. Before,
I also had this type of habit, but as I grew up, I realize the importance of quality work.
Now, I make sure that I finish my tasks and work on time.
Last is the Mañana Habit. It is somehow associated with the Bahala Na trait.
This is also common with us. This also leads to procrastination. I, personally, do have
this kind of mentality and it really is something that I need to remove from myself. I
need to set my priorities up and designate a free time schedule so that my leisure time
would not get in the way of my working hours. By doing so, it will lead me towards
productivity and relaxation.
