Activity 2 It Makes Sense

Your task this time is to label the statements listed below and identify whether that describe low context

LCC 2. When conserving, you are expected to speak only after your interlocutor is done talking. Turn-

HCC 3. You do not directly disagree because disagreements appear as personal threats. You need to
resolve the conflict immediately or avoid it completely.

LCC 4. Verbal messages are explicit and direct. What you say is more important than the context where
and when you said it.

HCC 5. You beat around the bush. Some call it you sugar-coating your real message because verbal
messages, especially bad news, should be delivered indirectly.

LCC 6. You use words all the time because they are highly valued in this culture.

HCC 7. Communication tends to be linear, dramatic, precise and open.

HCC 8. Disagreements are not taken personally. In work for example, disagreements do not need to be
resolved immediately for work to continue. Solutions are based on rational decisions.

LCC 9. Physical space is considered more communal. Standing very close to others is a common practice.

LCC 10. Efficiency is very important. The speed you complete a particular work is very important.

What do you think is the importance of understanding high- and low-context cultures? How does this
help you successfully communicate to people of different cultures?

Because this will help us to be aware and understands on how each people communicate in different
cultures. Understanding whether they are high context or low context will help us to adapt our
communication style and build good relationships with them.

Activity 3: We’ll Figure It Out

1.Did you ever have an opportunity to interact with people coming from different backgrounds using
online communication looks like chat or videoconferencing? Briefly describe your experience.

Yes, sometime when I am bored I and don’t have anyone to talk to. I talk with some people around the
world like Americans through chat and I can say that they’re very appreciative persons. I like having
friends like them because through them I can practice and improve my English skills.

2.What did you learn from your interaction?

I learned to be more extra careful to the words I will use to them when we were talking so that we can
prevent misunderstanding and arguments. And also, not give specific information about myself and
my family to our safety.

3.What were the challenges that you encountered when conveying your message?

It is when they’re so quick to reply to my messages and I was unable to come with it because
of many reasons such as I construct very carefully my messages to them before I click send for

them to feel that I really respect them, I am still learning their cultures and languages, and
importantly is to avoid misunderstanding.

4.How did the online communication tool help you convey your message?

Online communication tools help me to find new friends. Through online communication tools
I can send a message whoever I want to talk to whether its international or national. And it

Through the help of emojis, stickers, and GIF’S I can express my thoughts and current feeling
while talking to someone.

5.What specific strategies did you use to make sure that your communication succeeds?

I read many times my messages first before I click send. And I ensure that I have a stable
internet connection before I talk to them.

Learning Activity No. 2:

A. Compare and contrast the time spent on social media sites by Filipinos to other
race (i.e. Koreans, Japanese, Australians, Brazilians, Americans, Italians, etc.

Compare to other country, Filipinos are most likely to spent more their time in using social media and
that proves in the year of 2018. The Philippines has the highest social media usage rate in the world,
according to the 2018 Global Digital Report unlike in other countries. Filipinos spent their four hours a
day to social media while in other countries like Koreans they only spent 1 hour and 3 minutes in
social media, and Japanese are only 19 minutes a day. As we can see, people with no accounts in social
media specifically in Facebook are very rarely in our country. You can see people here can’t take their
cellphones away from them because they always update, they’re life in social media. In addition, In
the Philippines population of 107.3 million, out of that population, 71% or 76 million are active users
of social media.

B. Compare and contrast the internet speed in the Philippines with the other countries.

Despite of the Philippines being social media most active users, internet connection here is much
slower than any other countries like Korea. I think the main reason for that is our country severely lack
cell sites. Compared to 70,000 cell sites of Vietnam or over a million cell sites of China, the Philippines
has the lowest cell site density in Asia.

Activity 3 We’ll Figure it Out

In this activity, you will focus on exposition as a discourse that gives information, develops
an idea, or provides an explanation. its primary function is not to tell its story, although exposition often
uses narration as on of many techniques. Its primary function is not to be create vivid pictures, although
description may at times be a valuable technique of exposition. The primary purpose of exposition is not
to convince, although logical arguments and persuasion frequently use exposition as one of their
techniques. Simply told, the primary purpose of exposition is merely to explain and inform.

Below are several methods of developing an exposition. They may be employed
individually or in combination with one another. To complete this activity, you need to go back to the
person that you though earlier whom you believe in a model of wellness.

1.Definition

A fitness trainer (Morgan) gives the definition of wellness as defined by the world Health’s
Organization:

 “Wellness is a state of complete mental, and social well-being, and not merely the
absence of disease or infirmity.

Another fitness trainer (Johnson) also gave a definition of “wellness” in your own words.

 “Wellness is much more than the absence of illness: it is health-promoting behaviors to

achieve your full potential. In other words, wellness is the pursuit of your best possible
health and well-being. It is a connection choice, self-directed and self-motivating”.

Based on the given definitions, define “wellness” in your own words.

Wellness is a positive approach to living; it means being healthy with your physical body, mental
health and social well-being. Wellness can also be defined as an active process as well as making
choices to attain a healthy and fulfilling life. It is having a healthy lifestyle and doing healthy habits in
our daily basis.

2.Examples

Name other individuals who fit a picture of wellness. Give at least three (3).

1. Chloe Ting

2. Alyssa Valdez

3. Kathryn Bernardo

3. Comparison

If you were to compare the person of your choice of Filipino dish, what dish will that be? Why? Explain
the analogy to wellness.

If I were to compare them to my choice of Filipino dish, it would be chopsuey. I choose it because I
think they shared the same purpose to my body; it is you for being healthy and to have healthy habits.
Being physically fit is an important part of life, but wellness of the body, mind and spirit is what life is
all about!

4.ANALYSIS

Experts of wellness mention five components of wellness. An individual should strive to have a healthy
balance of these aspects of wellness; emotional, intellectual, physical, social, and spiritual. Explain at

healthy foods, and she knows how to control herself when eating her meals.

Bernardo can’t only have healthy body but also in her intellectual wellness, too. So, she needs to
be more knowledgeable as a role model of this generation. And she achieves that through
attending workshops, studying, and reading books when she has nothing to do.

Kathryn's workout routine consists mostly of two activities: cycling and "lagree." Lagree,
according to the Makati-based lagree fitness studio, Elev8, is "a patented 45-minute, full-body
workout that burns fat and sculpts lean muscles faster than any other fitness program."

Cause and Effects

6. At this point in his or her life, where is the person now? How successful is he or she? what has the
person achieve in life?

Alyssa Valdez became the team captain of the Ateneo women's volleyball team for indoor
volleyball. She was named the Best Scorer, Best Server and Season's MVP. She also won the Finals
MVP award after beating the defending champions, the DLSU Lady Spikers, which had a thrice to
