TEACHER'S REFERENCE GUIDE
Dear Learner,
Good Day!
Welcome to our Science subject. The activities for this week will enable you to classify
materials based on the ability to absorb water, to float, to sink, and to
undergo decay. Please carefully understand and follow the instructions provided. If you
encounter difficulties in doing the tasks, do not hesitate to ask for support from your parents
or anyone whom you think can help you do the activities. You can ask me via SMS or call
________________, Always bear in mind that YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Most importantly,
be free and creative in doing the activities. I hope you will experience meaningful learning
and gain a deep understanding of the relevant competencies amidst the COVID-19
pandemic. You can do it! Stay safe! Stay learning! God Bless.
Sincerely,
Your Teacher

Identify the materials that float and sink
Directions: Put a check mark ( ) if the material will undergo decay and mark ( ) if
not.
3. ax 4. meat
1. Did all the materials absorb water? Support your answer. (Activity 1A)
2. Why did the other materials sink? Why others did not? (Activity 1B)
3. What are those materials that undergo decay and those that are not?
Describe each? (Activity 1C)
The materials that we see around us exist in different forms: solids, liquids,
or gases. Like other materials, solids have different characteristics/properties such
as size, shape, color, odor, texture, and others.
There are different materials in our environment that can be classified
according to their properties.
A. They can be classified based on their ability to absorb water. Some materials
can absorb water more than others.
Porous materials are those having small holes that allow air or liquid to pass
through.
Cotton is a very porous material, it is a natural absorber of water.
Remember!
Pollution – is the action or process of making land, water, and air dirty and not
safe or suitable to use.
Biodegradable – capable of being slowly destroyed and broken down into very
small parts by natural process
To dispose the materials properly, use a technique or procedure we call the
Total Recycling Scheme which utilizes wastes into factory returnable,
fertilizers, feeds, fermentable, fuel, fine crafts and filling materials. These are
what we identify as then multi-F’s Recycling Scheme.
1. A glass of water spilled on the table. What are you going to use if you want to
wipe dry the table?
a. cellophane c. rubber band
b. plastic mat d. rug
2. During rainy days, what kind of material are you going to use to prevent you
from getting wet?
a. cap c. plastic raincoat
b. jacket d. towel
5. Mother kept the leftover food in the refrigerator. Why do you think so?
a. Left over foods are kept in refrigerator to avoid decaying fast.
b. Left over foods are kept in refrigerator to make it fresh.
c. Left over foods are kept in refrigerator to protect it from cats.
d. Left over foods are kept in refrigerator to make it cool.
