Consumer Health – refers to the decisions you make about the purchase of products and the use of accurate health information and
services that will have a direct effect on your health.
HEALTH INFORMATION – is the practice of acquiring, analyzing and protecting digital and traditional medical information to
provide superior health care.
HEALTH PRODUCTS – are those substances, materials, or equipment prepared or manufactured for you to buy and use in the
maintenance of health and treatment of diseases.
HEALTH CARE SERVICES - include all services that deal with the diagnosis and treatment of disease that provides medical
treatment and care to the public or to a particular group.
CONSUMER HEALTH EDUCATION - is the process of assisting you in acquiring correct information and understanding to be able
to make wise decisions about certain health items or services.
RELIABLE SOURCES
Reliable sources of information are mostly licensed professionals who studied and dedicated their time and effort to mastering
specific fields of expertise to help provide accurate information.
Unreliable sources of information and products are those who are not experts in the health field.
Some Sources of Risky Health Information:
• Outdated culture and traditions • Quack and pseudo healers (faith healers)
• Opinions • Unreputable internet sites
• Incomplete information • Blogs and unreliable media testimonials
In evaluating health services, the consumer's choices may be measured with these conditions:
1. Location or ease of access
2. Effectiveness of doctors, clinics, and hospital
3. Promptness and kindness when caring for the patient and family members
4. Price
5. Diversity of available doctors, clinics, and hospitals
