Program for mechanical test on switches
The testing methods used in this program follows established industrial standard.
The users can create their own switch types with bounded test performance, measure condition, and functional
values for different working pressure and protocol layouts. The users can also create their own general input
data, manually measured data and checks in a "test profile” All set-up data are stored in an ACCESS- or a SQL-
database.
Both analogue and pulse transducers with linear or rotated movement can be used for contact travel curves.
Tables for conversion of rotated movement into linear movement can be configured and used.
The program can handle three poles with four main contacts with four contacts for pre-insertion resistors in each
pole and three separate mechanisms with four auxiliary contacts at the same time. Data acquisition of up to 36
contact curves, three travel curves and a coil current curve can be made and displayed at the same time.
Additional investigation after an operation is done with the zoom and cursor functions.
Re-calculation of curve parameters with new measure conditions can also be done.
There is a separate analysis function for curve filtering, showing speed curves and acceleration curves and
selecting a reference curve for comparison.
Service and calibration functions make it easy to check and calibrate the control units and power units. A
calibration wizard guides the user through the calibration procedure.

2.0 Installation
This software is under continuous development and upgraded versions are going to continuously be distributed
through the www.elconsupport.se site.
Printing of curve diagrams, for a single operation, or for a complete test protocol, is done with use of document
templates in Microsoft Word.
The user can make these templates in any language. See Appendix 2 Protocol design procedure.
Note!
BTS11 can be used without Microsoft Office Word.
But Microsoft Office Word is required to be installed on the computer to be able to print protocols.
Note!
User is required to have Administrator privileges on the computer to successfully install the software.
If software is not working properly uninstall and reinstall again by right clicking BTS11-VX.X.X.X-Setup.exe and
click Run as Administrator.

If the BTS11 software is used for the first time it also needed information about what “Units” to use.
There are 3 predefined sets of units: “EU Units”, “US Units” and “SI-units”
These predefined unit sets cannot be changed.
You can also create your own “Unit set” by pressing the command button “New”
See chapter 7.13 Function “Units” for more information.
What happens next depend on what control unit (SA10/SA5/CM10/CM50) you have connected.
For the control unit “CM10/CM50” will the main window pop-up See chapter 3.4 Main window.
For the control unit “SA10/SA5” will first a pre-selection window pop-up

The intention of the tests is to make measurements of the coil current and the line current for one phase without
taking the breaker out of operation. The coil current and the line current can by external current transformers be
connected to the measuring device FSU10.
The coil current curve can be saved as a reference curve (“finger print”) to the specified test object for
comparing the next time the breaker shall be tested.
The tests must be enabled and setting for trig condition and data acquisition of channels from measuring device
FSU10 must be done in the in the used “Test definition”. See chapter 7.2.
The above defined current transducers must be selected to any of the FSU10 inputs “Ain1”, “Ain2”, “Ain3”
respectably and selection “Used for” must be set to “Coil current and “Line current” respectably in the function
“Input Connections”, see chapter 7.17.
The intention of the tests is to make measurements of line voltages, line currents and coil synchronization signal
for a three phase breaker without taking the breaker out of operation. The line voltages can by external voltage
transformers be connected to the auxiliary analogue inputs (Uk, Ul, Um) on the SA10. The line currents can by
external current transformers be connected to the measuring device FSU10. The synchronization signal can be
connected to any contact input.
The tests must be enabled and setting for trig condition and data acquisition of channels from measuring device
FSU10 must be done in the in the used “Test definition”. See chapter 7.2 for selecting and settings of tests.
The above defined voltage transducers must be selected to the analogue inputs “Uk”, “Ul”, “Um” respectably

Finding methods:
There are two methods of finding a reference curve with a specified search condition:
1. From all curves saved in the database
2. From curves saved as reference curve
The selection of method is done with the option buttons. From all curves and from saved reference curves.
Search conditions
The search condition can be either a switch configuration or a specified test object. The selection is done with
the option buttons “Switch configuration” and “Test object” for respectively method.
After the search criteria’s are set you have to press the command button “Find” to find all curves in the database
that match the search criteria. The test objects with curves that match are then listed in the frame “Selection”.
Select test object, test number and a curve from the combo boxes that shall be used as reference curve.
View methods
There are two ways of viewing the reference curve
As a normal curve with offset from the original curve.
As envelopes according to IEC
Selection of view method is done with the option buttons Curve and Envelopes according IEC
Show curve
Click on the command button OK to automatic redraw the graph with the selected reference curve.

Contact glitch filter: This filter intended to remove glitches caused by for example motor start. This filter is
usually only used in very special cases when a glitch problem occur. The default and
most common setting of this filter is that it is off. See the picture above
Choose filter method “time filter” to apply a filter that will remove glitches. Enter the
desired filter time in milliseconds.
Note! The glitch filter affects the contact time measuring.
Contact bounce filter: This filter intended to remove unwanted bounces, which occur when the contacts
connect in the breaker. See the picture above. Select filter method time filter to apply a
filter that will remove contact bounces. Enter the desired filter time in milliseconds.
Note! The bounce filter does not affect the contact time measurement
Curve filters.
Select filter method for Travel, Speed, Acceleration, Resistance and Coil current curves.
Mean square method: Each sample in the curve is approximated with the corresponding sample for a straight
line between the sample -T/2 and the sample +T/2
where T is the filter time in milliseconds. The line is calculated with the "Mean square
method".
Exponential: Each sample in the curve is approximated with the corresponding sample for an
exponential curve between the sample -T/2 and the sample +T/2 where T is the filter
time in milliseconds.
Note!
Select the type of filter that applies for your test and enter a filter time
For speed and acceleration curves its necessary to apply a filter to get “good” curves.

Contact number. The software needs to know the contact number. Select 1-4.
Status at open pole: The auxiliary contact on a switch does not always have the same status as the main
contact. Select the contact status of the auxiliary contact at open position for the switch.
Note!
Input “c” and “d” is not

Transducer name: Select transducer identification names that are created with the function “Transducers”,
see chapter 7.8 Function Transducers
For inputs T1, T2 and T3 you can only choose transducers that has been created for linear or angle movement.
The other transducer inputs are direct inputs. Which means the user connects the voltage cables direct to the
inputs.
Some inputs are designated inputs and pre-defined and not subject for change.
See hardware manual for used test equipment for information and specifications about the inputs.
Attached to: If a transducer is connected to a defined mechanism you have to tell the software witch
mechanism or phase the transducer is attached to
(P1/M1, P2/M2 or P3/M3).
Otherwise select “N.A” (Not Applicable)
