Program for mechanical test on switches

The testing methods used in this program follows established industrial standard.

The users can create their own switch types with bounded test performance, measure condition, and functional
values for different working pressure and protocol layouts. The users can also create their own general input
data, manually measured data and checks in a "test profile” All set-up data are stored in an ACCESS- or a SQL-
database.

Both analogue and pulse transducers with linear or rotated movement can be used for contact travel curves.
Tables for conversion of rotated movement into linear movement can be configured and used.

The program can handle three poles with four main contacts with four contacts for pre-insertion resistors in each
pole and three separate mechanisms with four auxiliary contacts at the same time. Data acquisition of up to 36
contact curves, three travel curves and a coil current curve can be made and displayed at the same time.

The following operations can be made:

Operations Standard Option Standard Standard

CM10 SA10 SA5
Close operations X X X
Open operations X X X
Combinations of Close and Open X X X
Min function coil voltage X X X

* Measuring device FSU10 is needed.

Additional investigation after an operation is done with the zoom and cursor functions.
Re-calculation of curve parameters with new measure conditions can also be done.
There is a separate analysis function for curve filtering, showing speed curves and acceleration curves and
selecting a reference curve for comparison.

Storing of test results are done in an MS-ACCESS or in a SQL database.

Service and calibration functions make it easy to check and calibrate the control units and power units. A
calibration wizard guides the user through the calibration procedure.

5.6.4 Reference curve

This function makes it possible to open a curve stored in the database for compare with the current done
operation.

Finding methods:
There are two methods of finding a reference curve with a specified search condition:
1. From all curves saved in the database
2. From curves saved as reference curve

The selection of method is done with the option buttons. From all curves and from saved reference curves.

Search conditions
The search condition can be either a switch configuration or a specified test object. The selection is done with
the option buttons “Switch configuration” and “Test object” for respectively method.

Search method 1 (From all curves)

For the search condition “Switch configuration” is it possible to change the search criteria and for the search
condition “Test object” you have to specify an identification number.

After the search criteria’s are set you have to press the command button “Find” to find all curves in the database
that match the search criteria. The test objects with curves that match are then listed in the frame “Selection”.
Select test object, test number and a curve from the combo boxes that shall be used as reference curve.

Search method 2 (From saved reference curves)

the search condition for this method cannot be changed. They are already set when saving a curve as a
reference curve. If an option button for the search condition is disabled, no reference curve exists for that search
condition.

View methods

7.1 Function Switch configuration.

The function “Switch configuration” is a key function in the BTS11 software.
From here you can access and edit most of the setting that applies for normal testing.
Here you set up and create your Switch configuration and attach the information that is required for your specific
test.
1. 2. 3.

4.

5.

The switch configuration is defined by three key parameters:

1. Switch type
2. Application
3. Mechanism type
Use the list boxes on top of the window for respective parameter to view existing switch configurations. Use the
command buttons on the right to save changes and create new switch configurations.

Tip! When a new switch shall be created, first select a switch configuration that has the same or almost the
same specification as the switch configuration you shall create. Use then the command button “Save as” to save
the new configuration. All the settings and definitions of the first selected switch will then apply for the new
switch. Change the parameters that differ and save the changes with command button Save.

4. Specifications
The bounded information to a selected switch configuration is divided into three tabs:
“Test specifications”: Define information to be able to test the switch properly, see chapter 7.1.1
“Ratings”: Define ratings to be used at protocol printout, see chapter 7.1.2
“Function values”: Define values to view and set limits to, see chapter 7.1.3

7.4 Test profile

The test profile is the users “check list” during a test. The user performs a test/check and enters a result in the
test profile in the test window.
Note! Some of the checks/data are predefined (grey marked in the test object window) and will automatic be
checked/filled by the software when performing the test. To be able to fill in those items manually you have to
remove the corresponding test from the Test definition.

The test profile is divided into four tabs in the test window. The information in the first tab is set when a new Test
object is created.
See chapter 5.4 Test Window for further info about the test window
.
The three other tabs (Test Object result, Mechanism result and Pole result) are designed using this function.

Example:

This is the “Test object data” tab in the function for editing test profiles.

This is the “Test object result” tab in the Test window.
