One day, a tiger saw the farmer and buffalo working : The tiger was surprised to see a big an
listening to a small animal. He wanted to know more about the buffalo and the man.
After the man went home, the tiger spoke to the buffalo, “ You are so big and strong. Why do
everything the man tells you ? “The buffalo answered, “On the man is very intelligent.”
The tiger asked ”Can you tell me how intelligent he is ?” No, I can’t tell you,” said the buffal
can ask him.”
So the next day the tiger said to the man, ”Can I see your intelligence ?” But the man answer
home”. Can you go and get it?” asked the tiger. “Yes”’ said the man ; “but I’m afraid you will kill my b
when I am gone. Can I tie you to a tree ?”
After the man tied the tiger to the tree, he didn’t go home to get his intelligence. He took his

2 Cleanliness is not only related to bathing, brushing teeth, wearing clean clothes, and washing
) hands before dining but also participating in preventing the pollution. Pollution is harmful to public
health. But not all people especially those who live in cities care about it. We can see rubbish or
wreckage the broken part of destroyed thing in many places. As a consequence, it damages the beauty
of the city, creates water and air pollution and causes disease. The polluted dust in air will make it
hard for people to breathe and can irritate the eyes. Polluted water and air are smelly : Besides giving a
bad smell, polluted water, rivers, and drains are not nice to see.
The government urges the resident to cooperate in preventing pollution. But it is not enough.
good resident must be aware of this problem by starting cleanliness habit at home and environment
surroundings. He should arrange his house neaty and tidily. At home he should have a rubbish
container : Cleanliness operation in the neighborhood is important. It can be held periodically, once or
twice a month.
The environment cleanliness actually depends on the people. As the number of people increa
pollution problem will be more and more serious. Let’s love and enjoy our home and environment by p
pollution, we must make them clean and healthy. No spitting and no littering. Cleanliness must be our
our days.
3 An Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) is a machine permitting a bank’s customer to make cas
) withdrawals at any time and without a human teller.
ATMs have a wide variety of name such as: Automatic Teller Machine, Automatic Banking
Wall, Cash dispenser, and some other names.
ATMs allow people to deposit cash or checks, checks their account balances, transfer money
accounts, and many others.
In modern ATMs, customers authenticate themselves by using a plastic card with a magnetic
customer’s account number. By entering a pass code called a PIN (Personal Identification Number), a c
withdrawals. If the customer enters it incorrectly for several times in row, most ATMs will retain the ca
precaution.
Most ATMs are connected to inter bank networks. It enables the customers to withdraw in pl
where their banks has no branches. Beside, it is also possible to withdraw local currency in a foreign
country. Many banks charge free for the use of their ATMs by non-depositors. Nowadays, many banks
place ATMs in grocery stores, shopping malls, and other locations.
5 In this area technology has become very advanced. Unlike in the past when information coul
) only be gained through newspaper or television news, nowadays, information can be instantly
received on smart phones. Some schools prohibit the students from using mobile phones, during
classroom activities to avoid them getting distracted. However, there are reasons students should be
allowed to use their mobile phones in school.
First of all, students who use their phones are keeping up to date with ongoing situations and
events. Students can easily read news about their surroundings. Furthermore, students can receive
calls and important messages from their families. Families can contact them when they need to give
them important news, and students can be directly informed.
Secondly, there are varieties of educational applications that can be downloaded for free. For
example, dictionaries and set of exercises. Students can browse additional information about certain
subjects. By using the applications, students can comprehend the subjects’ topics and enrich their
knowledge.
Lastly, mobile phones can help students to learn the easy way. All students have different
learning styles. Some will utilize phones to record the teacher’s explanation or take pictures of the
notes or slides. Then they can review the materials at home.
To conclude, the use of mobile phones in school may contribute to students’ learning
processes. They can make use of their phones for better learning activities. Therefore mobile phones
should not be banned in school

6 Tuna as food is consumed a lot in several countries, such as Japan and Australia. In total, tu
) is classified into 8 species. The white tuna, yellow-fin tuna, and blue-fin tuna, are some of the best kno
They can usually be found in warm subtropical waters of the Mediterranean and
the Atlantic Ocean. These fish do not stay in one place all year. They migrate over short periods of tim
for example, in 30 days from the Mediterranean Sea to the Gulf of Mexico. Their large bodies can weig
up to 1600 pounds. Despite that, these large animals are fast swimmers, whose speed can reach
between 44 and 62 miles per hour. They utilizes their dorsal and pectoral fins to help them accelerate.
Moreover, their warm body temperature plays an important role in keeping their swimming f
have to swim constantly, because the oxygen they breathe comes from water. Tuna
migrate to feed on mackerel, crustaceans, herring, and even squid. These amazing fish can dive into
water that is 3000 feet deep. Their natural predators in water include and orcas. After they feed
themselves, they migrate to breed eggs. A single female tuna can spawn up to 30 million eggs even
though most of them will not be able to survive. The life span of tuna ranges between 15 and 30 years
on average. Since the beginning of the 20th century, there has been a 90% decrease of tuna due to
overfishing.
7 Trains are a from of land transportation which has good prospects. They can be used to solve
) our country’s problems, such as increasing energy consumption, traffic congestion, and pollution.Train
also more economical in terms of energy use. Trains can carry a lot more
passengers than buses. They also consume much less fuel.
Furthermore, since Jakarta started operating electric trains, they have produced very little
pollution. According to a survey on transportation in Sweden, the pollution cost of road transportation
is much greater than the pollution cost of trains. Jakarta is the third most polluted city in the world
with its 6.5 million vehicles, mostly private cars and motor vehicles.
Every day, many people who commute from suburban areas use their private cars for their ac
These make roads very crowded. Thus is the right time for the government to upgrade and rebuild the
trains, because it will attract many people to use them.
8 Last year, my family decided to spend our New Year’s Eve at Anyer Beach, Banten. I was so
) excited because I had never had a chance to experience New Year on the beach. I usually go to my
grandma’s house for New Year’s Eve.
My mom booked a hotel room for the whole family. We would be staying at the Marbella Ho
In the morning, we packed our belongings for the short vacation. After we had packed our stuff, we
drove to the hotel.
During the trip, I slept because I wanted to stay awake all night. It took an hour to arrive at o
destination. Once we arrived at the hotel, we brought out stuff to the hotel room. The room was very
comfortable, and there were 2 big beds. I shared the room with my siblings.
In the evening, I watched a movie on TV. My siblings went to the indoor pool to swim. Whe
was 8 p.m. we went to the beach and laid a big rug on the sand. We had a barbeque while playing on
the beach. The beach was quite crowded, but it was not really packed, so we could play freely.
It was nearly midnight when my father set off fireworks. Other people in the beach did the
same. The sky was full of fireworks. People began counting down. After that, a big explosion was hear
from the hotel. It was huge, beautiful fireworks display. I really enjoyed the night and I can’t wait to
enjoy another New Year’s Eve vacation next year.
9 There are three separate sources of hazard in the process of supplying energy by nuclear
) power. The radioactive material must travel from its place of manufacture to the power station.
Although the power stations themselves are solidly built, the containers used for the transport of the
materials are not. There are normally only two methods of transport available, namely road or rail.Unfo
involve close contact with general public, since the routes are sure to pass
near, or even thought, heavily populated area.
Next, there is the problem of waste. All nuclear power stations produce wastes that in most
cases will remain radioactive for thousand of year. It is impossible to make these wastes non
radioactive, and so they must be stored in one of the inconvenient ways that scientist have invented.
For example they are buried under the ground, or dropped into abandoned mines, or sunk in the sea. Ho
do not solve the problem, since an earthquake could easily crack the
containers open.
Finally, there is the problem of accidental exposure due to a leak or an explosion at the powe
stations. As with other two hazard, this is not very likely, so it does not provide a serious objection to
the program. Nevertheless, it can happen.
Separately, these three types of risks are not a great cause for concern. On the whole thought,
the probability is still high
2. B. The way to make radioactive wastes not dangerous for people
11) There are many reasons for keeping dogs as Pet in the city area, but
many people feel that
keeping pet dogs should not be allowed In the city.
Dogs are often not taken care properly. They are kept in small
backyards and rarely taken for
walks. They are left in the yard all day by themselves while the family rune
work. Very little attention
is given to the dog and it is not a very good life for it. It is no wonder why these
dogs bark and disturb
the neighbours and become a nuisance to the community.
On the other hand, not all people treat their dogs this may and why
should the people receive a
lot of pleasure and enjoyment from dog's stifle'? Dogs can make a lonely
person's life happy or make
wonderful playmate. It can also teach a child responsibility as they not only
Potts lay with the dog, but
also need to exercise, feed, and care for the dog.
I feel that we should be allowed to keep dogs in the city, because ills
is taken care of properly,
dogs can be a great source of pleasure. As a child I used to enjoy playing and
taking care of my pet.
There is not greater loyalty a nelson can get than from a well-caned dog.
The main idea of the last paragraph is ....
5. E. the writer used to not play and took care of his pet when he was a child
Hello! How are you? I received you letter today. I am very excited to
hear that you are coming
to stay with me for the holidays. I am sure we will have a lot of fun together.
My parents have agreed to let you stay with me. They offered to pick you up at
the airport. All
you have to do is to tell us when you are coming.
I will now tell you about some of the things you will experience here
in Indonesia. You do not
have to worry about the local spicy food. We have a lot of fast-food restaurants
here like the ones you
have in England.
You can also shop for souvenirs to bring home. Sarinah or Blok-M are
our famous shopping
areas. They have many shop selling all kinds of things. I am sure you will love
them.
My family and I are looking forward to your coming. I hope to hear
from you soon.
Good bye.
With love

13) If someone is having a nose bleed, your priority is to control the bleeding and
keep their
airway open.
• Get them to sit down (not lie down) as keeping the nose above the heart will
reduce bleeding.
• Get them to lean forward (not backwards), to make sure the blood drains out
through their
nose every ten minutes, until the bleeding stops.
• Encourage them not to speak, swallow, cough, spit or sniff because this may
break blood clots
that may have started to form in the nose.
• If the bleeding is severe, or if it lasts more than 30 minutes, call for medical
help.
14) The popularity of mobile devices has had some dangerous
consequences. We know that mobile
communications are linked to a significant increase in distracted driving which
results in injury and
loss of life.
The Virginia Tech Transportation Institute found that text messaging
creates a crash risk 23
times worse than driving while not distracted.
Eleven percent of drivers aged 18 to 20 who were involved in an
automobile accident and
survived admitted they were sending or receiving texts when they crashed.
Distracted driving
endangers life and property and the current levels of injury and loss are
unacceptable.
15) All human beings eat food and make use of the chemical energy in it, so do all
other animals.
Perhaps you wonder where all that chemical energy comes from. Why doesn’t
the food all get used up?
The answer is that new food is being grown as fast as old food is used to. It is
the green plants
that form the new food. Animals either eat the plants or eat other animals that
have eaten plants.
They make up the food on which mankind and all other animals live.
In the process of forming
this food, some oxygen atoms are left over. These are given off into the air by
the plants. The whole
process is called photosynthesis.
Thus, plants use sunlight to from food and oxygen to from carbon
dioxide and water again.
Plants change the sun’s energy into chemical energy. And animals change the
animal energy into
kinetic and heat energy
16) I personally think that reading is an important activity in our life. Why
do I say so?
Firstly, by reading we can get a lot of information about many things
in the world such as science, technology, sports, arts and culture.
Secondly, by reading we can get a lot of news and knowledge about
something happening in any part of the world which we can see directly.
Thirdly, reading can give us pleasure. When we are tired, we can read
books, newspapers or magazines on the entertainment column such as short
stories, comedies or quizzes to make us relax.
Fourthly, reading can also take us to other parts of the world. By
reading a book about Irian Jaya we may feel that we’re really sitting in the
jungles, not at home in our rooms.
Based on the facts above, it is obvious that everyone needs to read
books, newspapers, magazines or others to get knowledge, news, information
and also entertainment. In other words, we can say reading is truly important in
our life.
The text talks about …
17) Thousands of macaques are bred or captured from the wild to be used
as street performers, or mentioned as “topeng monyet”. The macaques are
accustomed to perform street shows; carrying funny masks, riding bicycles,
performing gymnastic moves and doing amusing things. However, such shows
need to be outlawed for a few reasons.
Second, the ban of disguised monkey shows can facilitate improved
public order. Topeng monyet is often performed once traffic is insured at
notoriously full intersections. This can disturb the sight and create traffic jams
for many motorists or pedestrians. On the other hand, it can also hamper the
watching of the shows.
The monkeys utilized in topeng monyet won’t be healthy and can
have potential for some diseases like communicable disease and disease.
Considering the reasons expressed above, topeng monyet needs to be outlawed
for it exploits the monkeys, causes traffic jams and spreads diseases like
communicable disease.

18) National examination has become a hot topic to discuss in Indonesia.
The main controversy regarding to national examination is whether or not it is
necessary to continue the national exams (UN). Some other debates focus on
whether the quality of Indonesian education depends on the national exam and
whether the quality of the Indonesian education system will worsen without
national exam.
For those who support the national exam, they believe that the quality
of the Indonesia education system will get worse without the national exam, so
they try to defend the current system. They also believe that national exam can
be used to measure how far educational program designed by the government
works.
However, for those who disagree with national exam, the result of
national exam can’t give the clear image of students’ ability in general since the
issues of cheating always happen. Furthermore, the national exam only
measures a small portion of students’ competence in specific subjects, and does
not measure students’ competences throughout the semester.
Above all, the national examination can still be used as an instrument
to evaluate the level of students’ cognitive competence in certain subjects, on a
national scale.

19) Students of high schools are discussing about school’s new rules that
they have to wear a cap and a tie as school uniform.
Some of them are very happy. According to them, wearing a tie will
make them look great . additionally using cap to protect their head is important
as they can go to school safety from hot sun and things falling.
On the contrary, however, not all of student feel happy. They think
that the new rule is only making learning at school uncomfortable. The hot
weather is one of the factors which make wearing a tie is an inappropriate rule.
So wearing a tie and cap can be very beneficial if they feel
comfortable when the fabrics are suited to hot conditions
What is the main idea of 3rd paragraph ?
1. A. The student agree that wearing a tie is good for them.
3. C. Tie is the only thing which make them obey with the rule.
20) All animals breathe just like humans. How they breathe, however,
varies. Breathe by inhaling oxygen and exhaling carbon dioxide as waste. Air
flows in through the human’s nose or mouth into the lungs where oxygen is
transported through the blood to the rest of the human body. Humans need air to
breathe. So, what does that mean for animals that live in the water?
Like humans, fish also need oxygen and emit carbon dioxide to
survive. But using the lungs, these creatures that live in water use organs called
gills. The gills are organs located on the sides of the fish’s head. These gills
have many small blood vessels called capillaries.
When the fish opens, the water will flow over the gills. After that, the
blood in the capillaries will pick up oxygen that is soluble in water. The blood
then moves through the fish’s body to provide oxygen throughout the body, just
like in humans.
All bony fish also have a bony plate called an operculum. This
operculum is useful for opening and closing to protect the gills. Breathing
underwater is difficult. The air we breathe has an oxygen concentration of
200,000 parts per million.
When pollution is high, such as waste dumped into the sea, this will
cause algae blooms which then die and decompose. Furthermore, it will cause
the zone to have a low oxygen concentration level of oxygen.
Fish need clean water to breathe. Similarly, humans need clean air to
breathe. Humans can help these gilled creatures to thrive by keeping their
habitat free of pollutants.
21) One day, when I was ten years old, my father bought an old
motorcycle. That was " Honda 75". I think it was small light object and easy to
ride it. I persuaded my father to teach me to ride " Honda 75 ". Firstly, my
father refused my request and promised that he would teach me two or three
years later, but I still whimpered. Finally, my father surrendered and promised
to teach me.
One day later, when I was alone at home, I intended to try my riding
ability. So, myself tried bravely. All ran fluently in the beginning, but when I
was going back to my home and I passed through a narrow slippery street, I got
nervous. I lost my control and I fell to the ditch.
After that, I told my father about the last accident. I imagined my
father would be angry and never let me ride again. But the reality is exactly on
the contrary, my father was very proud of me. He just gave me some advices
and since that accident, I got my father's permission to ride motorcycle.
2. B. His father taught him to ride motorcycle through wrong way.
4. D. The writer thank that he can ride the motorcycle better
22) NEWYORK, Nov 12th. A four alarm fire damaged 14 stores today in the Cross
County Shopping Center. The largest shopping Center in Westchester County.
Two fire investigators said the blaze apparently started in a pile of cardboard
cartons at the rear of a shoe store and spread through a utilities duct above the
13 other stores. The fire started at 4.40 p.m. and was declared under control at
6.14 p.m. The center is on the Cross County Parkway at the Gov. Thomas E
Dewey Thruway.
Five fire-fighters were busy at the scene; Lieut. John Carey of Yonkers Arson

23) Nine traditional Balinese dances have been recognized as part of the
world’s intangible cultural heritage following a UNESCO session in Namibia
on Wednesday.
Balinese dances included on the list were the Barong Ket, Joged
Bumbung, Legong Keraton, Topeng Sidhakarya, Baris Upacara, Sanghyang
Dedari and Rejang dances, as well as the Wayang Wong and Gambuh dance
dramas.
“We are very pleased with the recognition; it enables Bali to receive
protection in terms of traditional dance preservation as well as economic
benefits in the future,” said Bali Cultural Agency head Dewa Putu Beratha on
Wednesday night as quoted by Antara news agency.
According to Dewa, the Rejang, Sanghyang Dedari and Baris Upacara
dances represented the Wali dance, which is usually performed during
processions. Meanwhile, the Topeng Sidhakarya dance and Gambuh and
Wayang Wong dance dramas are part of the Bebali dance, known as a semi-
sacred and ceremonial dancE. The Legong Keraton, Joged Bumbung and
Barong Ket dances are a representation of the Balih-Balihan dance that serves
social and entertainment purposes.
The Wali dance is said to have originated between the eighth and 14th
centuries. The Bebali dance and Balih-Balihan dances are believed to have
come from the 14th-19th century and 19th centuries, respectively.

27) Tom!
I'm going to Anula supermarket to get some sugar. Would you like to turn the
stove on when you are home? I've put some soup there. Just heat it for about 5
minutes and then take it out from the stove before you have dinner.
29) One morning, I got up with the feeling that the day was going to be an unlucky
one for me. How right it was! I found that it was already 06.15 am.
I rushed into the bathroom. I did not see a piece of soap lying on the floor. I
stepped on it and slipped, almost breaking my back in the process. Then I went
into the dining room for my breakfast. I gulped down the tea without realizing
that it was very hot. It burnt my tongue hurt. I got dressed and rushed to the bus
stop.
Unfortunately, I just missed the bus. My heart sank and I knew that I would be
late for school. When I reached school, my name was taken down by the teacher.
The teacher scolded me for being late. To my humiliation. I was made to stand
outside the class. I was so upset by the incidents that I could not study properly.
But worse was to come.
After school, I was on my way home when something hard hit me on the head.
Someone had thrown a bag of fish bones out of the window and it landed on me!
I was boiling with rage but could do nothing. However luckily for me, this only
raised a small lump on my heard.
I managed to reach home safe and sound, and did not dare to go out again for the
rest of the day.
30) Last week I went to see a waterfall with five of my classmates. We went there
early morning by bus. At 5.30 a.m. all of us had gathered at the bus stop waiting
for the bus that would take us to our destination. Only ten minutes later the bus
came and it was almost fully seated since it was a holiday. Luckily, we all got
the seats.
During our journey, we enjoyed enchanting scenery. Many big trees grew in left
and right sides of the road, everything looked so green and fresh. The weather
looked so fine. We could clearly see the green hills and the sun which was
coming out behind the hills.
Two hours later, the journey ended. My friends and I straightly went out the bus
and walked to the waterfall resort. It took fifteen minutes to reach the resort. To
see the waterfall, all visitors had to walk through many stone steps which were
quite slippery because it had rained last night.
Arriving down, we saw a beautiful waterfall flowing down. The water was so
clear and fresh. We splashed around and surely we got wet.
