PREFACE
It gives me immense pleasure to prepare and present the lecture material on “Quantities
Techniques for Disaster Management” The programme of MBA (Disaster Management)
is unique in various aspects. As such there are no lecture materials or books available
which can cater the need of the students in the field of disaster management especially in
Indian context.

I express my deep sense of gratitude to Prof. K.K Aggarwal, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor,

GGSIP University for providing me an opportunity to interact and share knowledge with
the knowledgeable and highly experienced participants of this course. I am also thankful
to Prof.Amarjeet Kaur, Director, Centre for Disaster Management Studies for her
confidence in my ability since inception of this course and support in developing this
courseware.

Disaster Management as a discipline has emerged to a great extent in relatively shorter

period of time. It is indeed vision of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of GGSIP University who
realized the need of the hour and took leading step in this direction, which is followed by
various other institutions in India.

A formal education in Disaster Management in India is catching up very fast. There has
been acute need of structured course material especially in the quantitative technique. It is
indeed valuable interaction and knowledge sharing of participants which had made
possible development of this course material. I hope this particular courseware would
also be useful for practioners and trainers in the field of disaster management. I am also
thankful to the entire team at CDMS, GGSIP University for their cooperation and
assistance in developing this course material. I am indebted to all my MBA (DM)
students, friends and colleagues for their helpful inputs while preparing this course
material.

Suggestions and comments to improve the course material in content and style are
