BG 2.7:
kārpaṇya-doṣhopahata-svabhāvaḥ
SYNONYMS
kārpaṇya — of miserliness; doṣa — by the weakness; upahata — being afflicted; svabhāvaḥ —
characteristics; pṛcchāmi — I am asking; tvām — unto You; dharma — religion; sammūḍha — bewildered;
cetāḥ — in heart; yat — what; śreyaḥ — all-good; syāt — may be; niścitam — confidently; brūhi — tell; tat —
that; me — unto me; śiṣyaḥ — disciple; te — Your; aham — I am; śādhi — just instruct; mām — me; tvām —
unto You; prapannam — surrendered.
Translation
Now I am confused about my duty and have lost all composure because of miserly weakness.
In this condition I am asking You to tell me for certain what is best for me. Now I am Your
disciple, and a soul surrendered unto You. Please instruct me.

BG 2.11:

Translation
The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: While speaking learned words, you are
mourning for what is not worthy of grief. Those who are wise lament neither for the living
nor for the dead.

Translation

Translation
BG 2.13:As the embodied soul continuously passes, in this body, from boyhood to youth to old
age, the soul similarly passes into another body at death. A sober person is not bewildered by
such a change.

activities; na—not; ca—also; puraścaryām—regulative principles before initiation; manāk—slightly; īkṣate—depends upon; mantraḥ—mantra;
ayam—this; rasanā—tongue; spṛk—touching; eva—simply; phalati—is fruitful; śrī-kṛṣṇa-nāma-ātmakaḥ—consisting of the holy name of Lord
Kṛṣṇa.
Translation
“ The holy name of Lord Kṛṣṇa is an attractive feature for many saintly, liberal people. It is the annihilator of all
sinful reactions and is so powerful that save for the dumb who cannot chant it, it is readily available to everyone,
including the lowest type of man, the caṇḍāla. The holy name of Kṛṣṇa is the controller of the opulence of
liberation, and it is identical with Kṛṣṇa. Simply by touching the holy name with one’s tongue, immediate effects
are produced. Chanting the holy name does not depend on initiation, pious activities or the puraścaryā
regulative principles generally observed before initiation. The holy name does not wait for all these activities. It
is self-sufficient. ”

death; uccheda - which uproots; mantram - the mystic chant; samucita - accumulated; tamasaḥ - of darkness; saṅgha -
the mass; niryāṇa - for driving away; mantram - the mystic chant; sarva - all; aiśvarya - for opulence; eka - the only;
mantram - mystic chant; vyasana - of material distress; bhujaga - by the snake; sandaṣṭa - for those who have been
bitten; santrāṇa - saving; mantram - the mystic chant; jihve - O my tongue; śrī-kṛṣṇa - of Śrī Kṛṣṇa; mantram - the
mystic chant; japa japa - please repeatedly chant; satatam - always; janma - of one's birth; sāphalya - for the success;
mantram - the mystic chant.
Translation
O tongue, please constantly chant the mantra composed of Śrī Kṛṣṇa's names. This is the only mantra for
destroying all enemies, the mantra worshiped by every word of the Upaniṣads, the mantra that uproots
saṁsāra, the mantra that drives away all the darkness of ignorance, the mantra for attaining infinite
opulence, the mantra for curing those bitten by the poisonous snake of worldly distress, and the mantra for
making one's birth in this world successful.
“When improper thoughts trouble you, then take the opposite side. ”

na—not; aham—I; vipraù—a brähmaëa; na—not; ca—also; nara-patiù—a king or kñatriya; na—not;
api—also; vaiçyaù—belonging to the mercantile class; na—not; çüdraù—belonging to the worker
class; na—not; aham—I; varëé—belonging to any caste, or brahmacäré (A brahmacäré may belong
to any caste. Anyone can become a brahmacäré, or lead a life of celibacy.); na—not; ca—also; gåha-
patiù—householder; no—not; vana-sthaù—vänaprastha, one who, after retirement from family life,
goes to the forest to learn how to be detached from family life; yatiù—mendicant or renunciant; vä—
either; kintu—but; prodyan—brilliant; nikhila—universal; parama-änanda—with transcendental bliss;
pürëa—complete; amåta-abdheù—who is the ocean of nectar; gopé-bhartuù—of the Supreme

Person, who is the maintainer of the gopés; pada-kamalayoù—of the two lotus feet; däsa—of the
servant; däsa-anudäsaù—the servant of the servant.
Translation
”’I am not a brähmaëa, I am not a kñatriya, I am not a vaiçya or a çüdra. Nor am I a brahmacäré, a
householder, a vänaprastha or a sannyäsé. I identify Myself only as the servant of the servant of the
servant of the lotus feet of Lord Çré Kåñëa, the maintainer of the gopés. He is like an ocean of
nectar, and He is the cause of universal transcendental bliss. He is always existing with brilliance.’”
