WATER

SCARCITY
AIM: At the end of the lesson,
students should be able to:

To know what are the cause and

effect of water scarcity
Why it is important to address
And what is the best solution
Virtues that can help us in addressing various
environmental issues

Prudence Frugality
Water is essential
for human life in
a number of ways.
For bodily functions,
Supports food

As well as energy

Have any of you
experienced
water scarcity?
Water Scarcity
It arises in situations where there is
insufficient water to simultaneously
support both human and ecosystem
water needs (White, 2014).

Current estimates predict that by

2040, up to 20 more countries could
be experiencing water shortages.
IS RAIN WATER SAFE TO DRINK?
Water Scarcity

- caused by a lack of water (physical water

scarcity)
- caused by lack of suitable infrastructure to
provide access
Diverse climates and
geography provide
some regions with
more rainfall and
natural water sources,
while other areas have
geographic features
that make transporting
water much more
difficult.
Overpopulation
Cause of Demand for water may be exceeding supply.

GLOBAL
WARMING
Nearly 1.2 billion people, do not have access to safe
drinking water.

More than 3 million people in the Philippines rely on

unsafe and unsustainable water sources and 7 million
lack access to improved sanitation.

Effects As poverty makes it difficult to develop a proper water

distribution and sewerage systems, they suffer the most

Scarcity
The impact of Water Scarcity in the
Philippines and around the world.

They lack access to life’s most critical resource – water.

Now, safe water is critical to the health of families in the
Philippines. Water Scarcity will continue to exist and, for
many regions, unfortunately will continue to grow due
to ever growing demands for water from increasing
populations with rising standards of living and due to
impacts of climate change.

SOLUTION TO
WATER SCARCITY:
The need to avoid consequences for all the producers,
government and many global programs took action such as
those of the United Nations focus on improved human
access to water within a more sustainable ecosystem
footprint.

The Safe Drinking Water Act and the Clean Water Act
provide a foundation from which states can enable, regulate,
and oversee water reuse as they deem appropriate.

WATER SCARCITY:

promotes local governance and capacity-building for Water,
sanitation and hygiene (WASH) planning and strategic
budgeting.

In 2010, the government of the Philippines developed a road

map to achieve universal water and sanitation services
coverage by 2028. Water.org is working to support this goal
Some of the factors to
reduce water scarcity:
1. Save Water Whenever Possible
2. Education
3. Recycle Water
PERSONAL HABITS

Taking short
showers Turn off faucet when
brushing teeth

Skipping bottled Maintain pipes to

water prevent leaks.
“Farmers are already finding ingenious ways
to reduce their impact, like using special
irrigation techniques to grow “more crop
per drop”, and breeding new crops that are
less thirsty.

Reducing food waste is the first step to

reducing water use.

You might also want to consider eating less

water-intensive foods like shelled nuts and
red meat. Adopting a vegetarian lifestyle
could reduce up to one third of your water
footprint

Water scarcity is
something that is not a
concern with only a
single living being at a
particular location and
time.
