II. The Apprentice Period
As nursing was not valued as an intellectual endeavor it lost much of
its economic support and social status. The nursing conditions were
at their worst and have been called the dark period of nursing.
III. The Educative Period

Began in June 15, 1860 when Florence Nightingale School of


Nursing opened at St. Thomas Hospital in London, England
which contributed the growth of Nursing in the US.
She earned the name “The Lady with the Lamp” because
she would visit soldiers at night with a small lantern in
her hand.
