Improving student engagement and acceptance using multicultural texts

Question: How can the use of multicultural texts impact students understanding and acceptance
of diverse cultures?
Multicultural texts play an important role in a classroom since it helps the students to
become more open-minded. It provides great help to teachers to pass it down to the students to
understand the diversity of different cultures enrolled in one classroom. This made to understand
to respect their differences, especially in urban areas, where the majority of the population are
indigenous people or from an ethnic tribe. This multicultural serves as an equilibrium to maintain
a harmonious class, where there is no racism. Where the quality of education is fair to all. No
discrimination regarding what type of tribe you are, respect and value the individualism of
students, such as beliefs and dialects. As an educator, being patient is the key, since some of your
students have their dialect compared to others. You should be more careful in your ways of
teaching in terms of using words because the dialect that we are practicing is different from
theirs. The best solution in this kind of situation is to teach and help them learn new dialects for
them to adopt our culture, and we should also start to adopt theirs.

POLICY ON EQUAL EDUCATION

Rationale Equality to all students in terms of education whether they are from
different culture.
Objectives To promote democracy in society where all groups are given equal
education.
To identify different cultures of society,
To recognize and adopt other individuals with different beliefs.
Scope According to James Bank (2001), the primary goal of multicultural
education is to transform the school so that male and female students,
exceptional students, and students from diverse cultural, social class,
racial, and ethnic social class and cultural group.
Despite a multitude of differing conceptualizations of multicultural

education, several shared ideals provide a basis for its understanding.
While some focus on individual students or teachers, and others are
much more “macro” in scope, these ideals are all, at their roots, about
transformation:
 Every students must have an equal opportunity to achieve her or
his full potential.
 Every students must be prepared to competently participate in an
increasingly society.
 Rights of each student for equality education.

 Require all new schools to be designed and built to an acceptable standard of
accessibility.

playground, libraries with enough books, and sports equipment.
 Continue to support in terms of financial assistance to those
families who are belong in ethnic tribes or the indigenous people.
