I am Cherry Ann P. Columbres.

As an expert on this topic, I am here today

to deliver my speech about malnutrition.

Currently, the world's growing population of over seven billion has caused
many people to worry about food security and malnutrition. Every country in
the world is affected by one or more forms of malnutrition. Malnutrition in all
its forms is a persistent problem across Southeast Asia. Millions of people
are suffering from different forms of malnutrition. People who are poor are
more likely to be affected by different forms of malnutrition because they
can’t afford food with all the nutrients in it.

Malnutrition is an imbalance in dietary intake. A person with malnutrition

may lack vitamins, minerals, and other essential substances that their body
needs to function. Registered diet experts and nutritionists are working
hard every day to improve the speed and accuracy of malnutrition
diagnosis and nutrition intake in the health care system. There are various
forms of malnutrition. Undernutrition: Undernutrition is a condition where a
person doesn’t get the proper food to eat or faces a lack of food.
Undernutrition includes four terms, which include wasting (low
weight-for-height). It usually indicates recent and severe weight loss and
stunting (low height-for-age) It is the result of chronic or recurrent
undernutrition, usually associated with poor socioeconomic conditions and
poor maternal health and nutrition A child who is underweight may be
stunted, wasted, or both. Overweight occurs when a person overeats
nutrients. It leads to laziness in a person. They find it difficult to run or do
any physical activity.

In addition, some symptoms of malnourishment can be a lack of appetite,

irritation, tiredness, lack of concentration, anxiety or depression, getting
sick within a short time gap, and taking a long time to heal. The UN Decade
of Action on Nutrition calls for policy action across 6 key areas:

● establishing resilient, long-term food systems to support healthy diets;

● providing social protection and nutrition-related education for all;
● aligning health systems to nutrition needs and providing universal
coverage of essential nutrition interventions.
● ensuring that trade and investment policies promote better nutrition;
● creating nutrition-friendly environments for people of all ages; and
● strengthening and promoting nutrition governance and accountability
everywhere.

To conclude, malnutrition is a common condition that must be treated

quickly and surely. It is a physical state of unbalanced nutrition of a person
or child that can be caused for many different reasons. The major cause of
malnutrition is poverty. Our government should take some big steps to
eliminate this huge problem in our country with their resources and
goodwill.
