ABO UT TH E E VE N T

The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Expo (STEM EXPO) is a two-day science, technology,
and innovations exposition organized by the Philippine Society of Youth Science Clubs (PSYSC), aiming to
introduce, provide, and highlight scientific solutions to problems of society and the community. The event is
open to the general public.

The event features an ideas generation hackathon, an innovations project competition, a science
investigatory projects fair, a robotics competition, a science journalism workshop and competition, an
amateur science film festival, public science lectures and talks on science, technology, design, and culture,
and a public community exhibition of partners in the science, technology, research, and development
industry in the country.

It aims for the following event objectives:


1. To introduce, create, and develop a wide public awareness and understanding of the role and importance of
Science, Technology, and Innovation in nation-building and in society;
2. To provide, engineer, and assist in the development of scientific ideas and innovative solutions to issues and
problems faced by the country and community in the 21st century;
3. To gather, engage, and collaborate with the bigger Filipino scientific community and technological industry, in
support of its growth, development, and further contribution to national progress and global society.
M AJO R & MIN OR SUBE VE N TS

The Teknolohiya, Agham, Kalikasan, Diwa at Ako (TAKDA) is an open conference series on science research
practice and technology innovations that aims to gather scientists, academicians, researchers,
businesspeople, government officials, working professionals, and university students to present, discuss,
and exchange new ideas and current thought on science research practice and technology innovations
development in the Philippines.

This year, the central and general theme is Filipino Ingenuity, supplemented by the open conference talks on the
following particular areas: (1) On Science Education, (2) On Medical Research, (3) On Transportation and System, (4)
On Business and Work, and (5) On Policy and Community Development.

The iGen: Ideas Generation Hackathon (iGen: Ideathon) is an ideas generation hackathon to provide
participants opportunities to drive innovation in problem-solving and in building technological solutions to
address specific problems in society; also to collaborate, network, and productize their ideas with like-
minded people. It is a physical hackathon dedicated to one (1) central theme, relating possible innovative
technological ways to address prominent issues such as public education, food production and
consumption, health and well-being, transportation and mobility, and basic social services, for the building of
at least a working prototype in the form of a website, a software application, an entrepreneurial project
concept, or a socio-civic program proposal.

This year, the central theme is Modern-Day Farming.

The iGen: Innovations Competition (iGen: Innovation) is an innovations competition to recognize innovative
and market-oriented projects that have the potential to address emerging challenges faced by society in the
21st century. It is a nationwide competition, exclusively open to Filipino senior high schools students, held to
provide a platform for participants to present and showcase their innovations projects to the public.

This year, project entries to the competition are categorized into the following categories: (1) Agriculture and Fisheries,
(2) Health and Well-being, (3) Energy and Environment, (4) Automation and Machine Technology, and (5) Disaster
Mitigation and Management.
The PSYSC Science and Mathematics Investigatory Projects Fair (PSYSC IP Fair) is a nationwide research fair
and competition, exclusively open to Filipino senior high school students, held to provide an avenue for
participants to present and showcase their science investigatory projects and research studies to their peers
and to a network of science research experts in several major fields of science and technology.

This year, project entries to the competition are categorized into the following categories: (1) Life Science, (2) Physical
Science, (3) Applied Science, and (4) Mathematical Science.

The PSYSC Robotics Olympiad is both a robotics projects exhibition and competition, exclusively open to
Filipino senior high school students, held to provide an avenue for participants to present and showcase
their robotics projects to their peers and to robotics experts and technologists in the Philippines.

The PSYSC Science Journalism Contest is a nationwide schools press conference focused on writing,
reporting, and informing news and present-day discoveries on science and breakthroughs in technology,
exclusively open to Filipino senior high school students, held to provide an avenue for participants to
develop, hone, and practice skills in written communication and critical journalism.

This year, press conference contests are categorized into the following categories: (1) Filipino, and (2) English; and
into the following sub-categories: (1) News Writing, (2) Feature Writing, (3) Editorial Writing, (4) Editorial Cartooning,
and (5) Photojournalism.

The PSYSC Science Film Festival is a nationwide amateur film-making competition and film festival focused
on promoting the public understanding of science, technology, and the environment, exclusively open to
Filipino senior high school students, held to encourage and engage the Filipino youth and the general public
to become active participants in the promotion and development of science and technology in the country.
Eligibility, Awards & Prizes, and
Application Guidelines
iG E N : ID E ATHO N 2019
I. Eligibility
1. The iGen: Ideas Generation Hackathon (iGen: Ideathon) welcomes project ideas of all kinds of innovative and
technological ways to address a particular problem being faced by society, such as issues on public education, food
production and consumption, health and well-being, transportation and mobility, basic social services, and many more;
2. The competition is open to bona fide senior high school students of PSYSC-affiliated science clubs in the Philippines;
3. The competition is also open to all undergraduate students of at least 18 years old, currently enrolled in school, college,
or university in the Philippines;
4. The competition is also open to graduate students and/or working professionals aged 21-35 years old, currently enrolled
or employed in the Philippines;
5. The project idea may be a solution, plan, product prototype, project concept, or program proposal an individual or a team
composed of a maximum of five (5) team members only;
6. A submitted project idea must not be an entry to the other competitions of the STEM Expo;
7. The application fee to the competition is PHP 500.00 per project idea; and payments shall be made through the PSYSC
Landbank account on or before the application deadline of the competition.

NOTE: Only project idea applications that have settled their application fee payments shall be considered in the Preliminary Screening Phase of the
competition. Once qualified, an official registration fee of PHP 3,500.00 per project idea shall be paid on or before the registration deadline of the
competition to be able to proceed to the competition proper during the STEM EXPO 2019.

II. Competition Awards & Prizes


All team members of all participating teams that qualified into the competition shall receive a Certificate of Participation
each. Moreover,
1. Major Awards
a. Overall Grand Champion. All team members of the winning participating team that will be awarded as Overall
Grand Champion of the iGen: Ideas Generation Hackathon (iGen: Ideathon) shall receive Certificates of
Recognition each, Gold Medals each, a Trophy, and a Cash Prize.
b. Overall First Runner-up. All team members of the winning participating team that will be awarded as Overall
First Runner-up of the iGen: Ideas Generation Hackathon (iGen: Ideathon) shall receive Certificates of
Recognition each, Silver Medals each, a Trophy, and a Cash Prize.
c. Overall Second Runner-up. All team members of the winning participating team that will be awarded as Overall
Second Runner-up of the iGen: Ideas Generation Hackathon (iGen: Ideathon) shall receive Certificates of
Recognition each, Bronze Medals each, a Trophy, and a Cash Prize.

2. Special Awards
a. Best in Presentation. All team members of the winning participating team that will be awarded as Best in
Presentation of the iGen: Ideas Generation Hackathon (iGen: Ideathon) shall receive Certificates of Recognition
each and Gold Medals each.
b. Best Presenter. The team member that presented of the winning participating team that will be awarded as Best
Presenter of the iGen: Ideas Generation Hackathon (iGen: Ideathon) shall receive a Certificate of Recognition
and a Gold Medal.

III. Registration
Competition Participation (open to ALL and especially to undergraduate students)
 PHP 3,500.00 per team, maximum of 5 team members per team (includes bag, pen, pencil, handbook, notebook,
ID, ID case, ID lace, certificate)

iG E N : IN N O VATION 2019
I. Eligibility
1. The iGen: Innovations Competition (iGen: Innovation) welcomes project entries of all kinds of innovations, and assesses
both tangible products and intangible social processes on the same plane, provided that these project entries are
marketable and feasible for the utilization of the general public;
2. The competition is open to bona fide senior high school students of PSYSC-affiliated science clubs in the Philippines;
3. The project entry may be an innovation project of an individual or a team composed of a maximum of five (5) team
members only;
4. Each project entry must only have one (1) team adviser; moreover, the said team adviser shall only be an observer during
the competition proper and shall not participate in the project presentation on behalf of the participating team members;
5. A participating science club may only submit a maximum of two (2) project entries per category in the competition;
6. A submitted project entry must not be an entry to the other competitions of the STEM Expo;
7. The application fee to the competition is PHP 500.00 per project entry; and payments shall be made through the PSYSC
Landbank account on or before the application deadline of the competition.

NOTE: Only project entry applications that have settled their application fee payments shall be considered in the Preliminary Screening Phase of the
competition. Once qualified, an official registration fee of PHP 3,500.00 per project entry shall be paid on or before the registration deadline of the
competition to be able to proceed to the competition proper during the STEM EXPO 2019.

II. Competition Awards & Prizes


All team members of all participating teams that qualified into the competition shall receive a Certificate of Participation
each. Moreover,

b. Best in Exhibit. All team members and team adviser of the winning participating team that will be awarded as
Best Exhibit of the iGen: Innovations Competition (iGen: Innovation) shall receive Certificates of Recognition
each and Gold Medals each.
c. Best Presenter. The team member that presented and team adviser of the winning participating team that will
be awarded as Best Presenter of the iGen: Innovations Competition (iGen: Innovation) shall receive Certificates

1. The PSYSC Science and Mathematics Investigatory Projects Fair (PSYSC IP Fair) welcomes science research and
investigatory project entries of all kinds that can be related to the fields of Life Science, Physical Science, Applied
Science, or Mathematical Science;
2. The competition is open to bona fide senior high school students of PSYSC-affiliated science clubs in the Philippines;
3. The project entry may be a science research or investigatory project of an individual or a team composed of a maximum
of three (3) team members only;
4. Each project entry must only have one (1) team adviser; moreover, the said team adviser shall only be an observer during
the competition proper and shall not participate in the project presentation on behalf of the participating team members;
5. A participating science club may only submit a maximum of one (1) project entry per category in the competition;
6. A submitted project entry must not be an entry to the other competitions of the STEM Expo;
7. The application fee to the competition is PHP 350.00 per project entry; and payments shall be made through the PSYSC
Landbank account on or before the application deadline of the competition.

NOTE: Only project entry applications that have settled their application fee payments shall be considered in the Pre-evaluation Phase of the
competition. Once qualified, an official registration fee of PHP 2,000.00 per project entry shall be paid on or before the registration deadline of the
competition to be able to proceed to the competition proper during the STEM EXPO 2019.

All team members of all participating teams that qualified into the competition shall receive a Certificate of Participation
each. Moreover,
1. Major Awards

2. Special Awards
a. Category Champion. All team members and team adviser of the winning participating team that will be awarded
as Category Champion, only one (1) for each of the four (4) categories of the PSYSC Science and Mathematics
Investigatory Projects Fair (PSYSC IP Fair), shall receive Certificates of Recognition each and Gold Medals each.
b. Best in Exhibit. All team members and team adviser of the winning participating team that will be awarded as
Best Exhibit of the PSYSC Science and Mathematics Investigatory Projects Fair (PSYSC IP Fair) shall receive
Certificates of Recognition each and Gold Medals each.

I. Eligibility
1. The PSYSC Robotics Olympiad welcomes project entries of manually assembled robots and/or robotics projects;
2. The competition is open to bona fide senior high school students of PSYSC-affiliated science clubs in the Philippines;
3. The project entry may be a robotics project of an individual or a team composed of a maximum of three (3) team
members only;
4. Each project entry must only have one (1) team adviser; moreover, the said team adviser shall only be an observer during
the competition proper and shall not participate in the project presentation on behalf of the participating team members;
5. A participating science club may only submit a maximum of three (3) project entries per in the competition;
6. A submitted project entry must not be an entry to the other competitions of the STEM Expo;
7. The application fee to the competition is PHP 350.00 per project entry; and payments shall be made through the PSYSC
Landbank account on or before the application deadline of the competition.

NOTE: Only project entry applications that have settled their application fee payments shall be considered in the Preliminary Screening Phase of the

c. Second Runner-up. All team members and team adviser of the winning participating team that will be awarded
as Second Runner-up of the PSYSC Robotics Olympiad shall receive Certificates of Recognition each and
Bronze Medals each.

2. Special Awards
a. People’s Choice Award. All team members and team adviser of the winning participating team that will be
awarded as the People’s Choice Award of the PSYSC Robotics Olympiad shall receive Certificates of
Recognition each and Gold Medals each.

III. Registration
Competition Participation (open to senior high school students only)

 PHP 2,000.00 per team, maximum of 3 team members per team (includes bag, pen, pencil, handbook, notebook,

I. Eligibility
1. The competition is open to bona fide senior high school students of PSYSC-affiliated science clubs in the Philippines;
2. A participating science club may have a maximum of three (3) participants per sub-category in either the Filipino
category or the English category in the competition;
3. The application fee to the competition is PHP 100.00 per participant; and payments shall be made through the PSYSC
Landbank account on or before the application deadline of the competition.

NOTE: Only participant applications that have settled their application fee payments shall be considered in the competition. Once qualified, an official
registration fee of PHP 350.00 per participant shall be paid on or before the registration deadline of the competition to be able to proceed to the
competition proper during the STEM EXPO 2019.

II. Competition Awards & Prizes


All team members of all participating teams that qualified into the competition shall receive a Certificate of Participation
each. Moreover,
1. Major Awards
a. Champion. The participant and adviser that will be awarded as Champion, only one (1) for each of the eight (8)

b. First Runner-up. The participant and adviser that will be awarded as Champion, only one (1) for each of the

c. Second Runner-up. The participant and adviser that will be awarded as Champion, only one (1) for each of the
eight (8) sub-categories of the PSYSC Science Journalism Contest, shall receive Certificates of Recognition

1. The PSYSC Science Film Festival welcomes amateur science film entries or video documentaries that can be related to
Science, Technology, and Innovation;
2. The competition is open to bona fide senior high school students of PSYSC-affiliated science clubs in the Philippines;
3. The film entry may be an amateur science film or video documentary of an individual or a team composed of a maximum
of five (5) primary team members only;
4. Each film entry must only have one (1) team adviser; moreover, the said team adviser shall only be an observer during the
competition proper and shall not participate in the project presentation on behalf of the participating team members;
5. A participating science club may only submit a maximum of one (1) film entry per category in the competition;
6. A submitted film entry must not be an entry to the other competitions of the STEM Expo;
7. The application fee to the competition is PHP 1,000.00 per film entry; and payments shall be made through the PSYSC
Landbank account on or before the application deadline of the competition.

NOTE: Only project entry applications that have settled their application fee payments shall be considered in the Preliminary Screening Phase of the
competition. Once qualified, an official registration fee of PHP 1,750.00 per film entry shall be paid on or before the registration deadline of the
competition to be able to proceed to the competition proper during the STEM EXPO 2019.

1. Major Awards
a. Best Picture. All team members and team adviser of the winning participating team that will be awarded as Best
Picture of the PSYSC Science Film Festival shall receive Certificates of Recognition each, Gold Medals each, a
Trophy, and a Cash Prize.
b. Second Best Picture. All team members and team adviser of the winning participating team that will be awarded
as Second Best Picture of the PSYSC Science Film Festival shall receive Certificates of Recognition each and
Silver Medals each.
d. Third Best Picture. All team members and team adviser of the winning participating team that will be awarded
as Third Best Picture of the PSYSC Science Film Festival shall receive Certificates of Recognition each and
Bronze Medals each.

2. Special Awards (Individual)


a. Best Actor. The team member that will be awarded as Best Actor of the PSYSC Science Film Festival shall
receive a Certificate of Recognition and a Gold Medal.
b. Best Actress. The team member that will be awarded as Best Actor of the PSYSC Science Film Festival shall
receive a Certificate of Recognition and a Gold Medal.
e. Best Director. The team member that will be awarded as Best Actor of the PSYSC Science Film Festival shall
receive a Certificate of Recognition and a Gold Medal.

3. Special Awards (Team)


a. Best in Musical Score. All team members and team adviser of the winning participating team that will be
awarded as Best in Musical Score of the PSYSC Science Film Festival shall receive Certificates of Recognition
each and Gold Medals each.
b. Best in Cinematography. All team members and team adviser of the winning participating team that will be
awarded as Best in Cinematography of the PSYSC Science Film Festival shall receive Certificates of
Recognition each and Gold Medals each.
c. Best Screenplay. All team members and team adviser of the winning participating team that will be awarded as
Best Screenplay of the PSYSC Science Film Festival shall receive Certificates of Recognition each and Gold
Medals each.
d. People’s Choice Award. All team members and team adviser of the winning participating team that will be
awarded as the People’s Choice Award of the PSYSC Science Film Festival shall receive Certificates of
Recognition each and Gold Medals each.

Eligibility, Application, and Registration to Competitions
1. The major and minor subevents of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Expo 2019 (STEM EXPO 2019)
is open to bona fide senior high schools students of PSYSC-affiliated science clubs in the Philippines;
a. For interested science clubs who are not affiliated with PSYSC, it is advised that the science clubs register first
for affiliation to PSYSC by fully accomplishing Form 1 PSYSC Affiliation Form and Form 2 PSYSC Affiliation Form
(Roster of Science Club Members). All necessary forms and payment information can be found at
www.stemexpo-psysc.com.
2. Competition guidelines of all subevents of STEM EXPO 2019 can be found at www.stemexpo-psysc.com.
3. All application forms and other necessary information for both application and registration to the competitions can also
be found at www.stemexpo-psysc.com.
4. All application and registration requirements must be submitted via email to mail.stemex@gmail.com on or before their
respective deadlines. (Application Deadline: 19 April 2019; Registration Deadline: 10 May 2019)
