Cell Structure Worksheet 1 Bloom Taxonomy
Level 1. REMEMBER
1.1 Label this simplified animal cell using the following words:
Yes Nucleus 9. 1. All the proteins needed for the cell are
synthesised (made) here.
Little self-reflection: did you remember the names of the organelles and functions? Remember this
part is important as part of criterion A (Knowledge and understanding).
Level 2. UNDERSTAND
2.1 Plant cells need a cell wall for support. Why do animal cells not need one?
Because plant cells need a rigid structure to grow up, meanwhile animal cells have cell membranes
that are more flexible for the animal cell to adapt to the form that needed.
2.2 Classify the organelles of the animal cell as membrane-bound or not membrane-bound.
Membrane bound organelles are Vacuole, Lysosome, Golgi Apparatus, Endoplasmic Reticulum.
And non membrane bound are ribosomes, the cytoskeleton, the cell wall.
Level 3. APPLY
3.1. Identify the pathway through a cell of a protein, from production to modification, to secretion
out of the cell.
It goes to the cell membrane then it goes to the golgi apparatus where it takes its shape then
it sticks to the rough er and last it gets transported by secretory vesicles to secrection.
Level 4. ANALYSE
4.1. Compare and contrast the smooth and rough endoplasmic reticulum in terms of structure,
function and position in the cell.
The main difference is that rough er has some ribosomes sticking to them so it makes it look rough,
meanwhile smooth er has not. The smooth store lipids and proteins while the rough only protein,
smooth er is near to the cell membrane and rough er is near to the cytoplasm of eukariotic cells.
Level 5. EVALUATE
5.1. The parts of the cell have been compared to the parts of a factory. Discuss this analogy.
Golgi apartus+ smooth er= amazon because it gives it the correct form and delivers it to secretion.
5.2. For many years, it has been stated that the nucleus is the “brain” of the cell as it contains the
DNA, but more recent research suggests that the cell membrane is the real control centre of the cell
as it processes signals which pass on messages to turn DNA on and off. Choose which one you think
is more important in the cell and explain your decision.
I think cell membrane because without it DNA will be absolutely useless, because cell membrane has
the vital function of deciding which substances can enter and which not, regulating this way the
exceed in some type of matter which can result very harmful. Also there are cells that live without a
nucleus, but, all cells have cell membrane.e
