THE INRODUCTORY PARAGRAPH

 Background - The story “The Centipede” is a short story which was written by Rony V. Diaz. It
was all about Delia which is Eddie’s sister being furious in what her brother likes. Their mother
died when Eddie was born, while Delia was 8 years old back then and it should be the reason
why she shows hatred towards her rother. His sister has a heart disease and must not be
surprised so that is why Eddie has to hold his temper.

 My Opinion - The sequence of events of the story is well stated and well written.

 Thesis Statement - The story will revolve on Eddie and Delia’s strained relationship as a result of
Delia’s hatred toward her brother.

THE DEVELOPMENT PARAGRAPH

1) Opening

 Hooks - Do you like revenge? Then, thus story adheres your standards. In a trial where his
temperance is being tested, it will include a boy who has been consistently mistreated by his
sister.

 Introduction of the Central Character – Eddie, a young boy, has a sister named Delia. His sister
doesn’t get along with him and treats him badly because she believes her brother is the reason
why their mother died. While Eddie has to put up a good show because he knows that his sister
has a weak heart and has to keep his cool even though she’s the one who is wrong.

 Scene Setting – The setting of the story took place at the home Eddie and Delia shares.

 Problem Description – The problem in this story is between the protagonist and his sister, how
Delia treats Eddie cruelly and wouldn’t stop mistreating him.

2) Characterization

 Central Character – Eddie has a good temperance; he can keep his cool every time his sister
messes with him. Delia, on the other hand, is a ruthless girl who keeps messing with Eddie
despite having a weak heart.

hunting in a forest where he met Biryuk for the first time. Berto is the one who gave Eddie a big
centipede.
3) Dialogue - The dialogue shows a great importance in the story and is meaningful when you read
it aloud.

4) Setting - The setting is a fictional place with no specific location.

5) Conflicts - It has an external conflict of Man vs. Man. Eddie and Delia had not been on good
terms and had been at odds a conflict since they were young. Delia is always trying to get rid of
things that would make her brother Eddie happy.

6) Suspense Value - Delia was shocked as Eddie threw the centipede into her lap, and the agony in
her heart increased.

 Exposition - Eddie saw his sister Delia beating his dog Biryuk with a stick.
 Rising Action - Eddie is enraged, and he wants to run over and help Biryuk. However, he can’t
because Delia suffers from a heart condition.

 Falling Action – Delia got surprised and collapsed to her chair clutching her breast.
 Resolution – Eddie felt guilty as he held the centipede before his sister.

8) Structure – At first, the story introduced the central characters. Second, the conflict was shown.
Next, flashbacks were displayed. And lastly, it reveals the conclusion.

THE CLOSING PARAGRAPH

After reading “The Centipede”, I came to an understanding that the short story was
ridiculous no matter where I see it. The conflict stated in the story is not bad but not as good as I
expected. I felt the same anger as Eddie when Delia stabbed Biryuk’s eye. We all know that even
animals have rights and not meant to be abuse or hurt. If I were him, I wouldn’t think twice and
would shout at my sister regardless of her heart condition. The moral lesson of the story is to
forgive and forget. You also need to know if what your doing is right or wrong.
