Introduction
MEP Group is the owner of one of Bangladesh's top and most advanced electric and electronic
industries. They have transformed the electronic sector in Bangladesh by introducing switch
sockets, cables (domestic, HT/LT), compact fluorescent lighting (Energy Saving Lamps) and
LED lights, PVC pipes, and many other electrical and electronic equipment. They don't cut
corners when it comes to quality, which is why they only utilize the best raw materials in their
products. MEP has produced only two things since its establishment in 1974: plugs and sockets.
MEP Group, by the grace of Allah, now offers over 1,900 products to its clients in order to
meet the diverse demands of a growing population while also reducing dependency on
imported commodities. A skilled team of 2,600 employees is dedicated to offering a complete
electronic solution in order to develop these things.
To ensure the highest level of quality, their goods are tested at the BUET laboratory and
certified by ISO 9001:2015, REB, MES, PWD, and CPRI. In 2016, we had a spectacular year
because we were granted the coveted "Five-star rating” for the MEP Fan from BSTI. For the
2017-2018 fiscal year, our company received the "Highest Tax Payer" award in Barisal.
The MEP Limited adventure began as a dream of the MEP Family before it became MEP
Group. Over four decades, they've perfected their skills in the creation of energy efficient,
ecologically safe electrical and electronic accessories to fulfill the nation's ever-changing
demand for electric accessories.

What are the current positions of the

organization compared to past few years?
MEP Group has been doing great. It has exceeded their overall expectations over the years.
The hard work of their 2,600 well-trained employees has brought them great success. They
used to produce 1,500 different products in 2019 but now they do 1,900. Their good quality
products are well known in the market and they are making profits over the past few years.

How do you make strategic and operational

plan?
It is critical for a business to have a strategic plan in place. It is the long-term course that the
organization should take. Creating a plan is all about determining what the company will do
and how they will do it. It also discusses how to keep ahead of the competition in the industry
and ensure that clients are satisfied with their requirements. In most circumstances, the CEO
and other members of the organization's executive leadership team are in charge of long-term
goal development and implementation. The CEO and many other people at MEP Group
collaborate to make long-term decisions. Department heads and other employees in the same
department can also share their opinions, suggestions, and ideas with them. Employees at
various levels of the organization are asked to assist set the company's goals. Employees at
6

many levels voice their ideas, but the final decision is made by the CEO or someone with more
power. Every year, the MEP Group examines their strategic plan to ensure that it aligns with
the company's purpose and goal, which is to assist people in finding work. They try to figure
out how well the strategy is working and change and make plans based on that to see if it is
working or not.

Who makes the plan and how they make it?

MEP GROUP is a corporation where only top-level executives make decisions. They prepare
for a long time, usually longer than five years. They are tied to the company's objectives. They
serve as the organization's link to the outside world. Core Strategies specify how an
organization's resources should be used to achieve its objectives. When the senior managers
have decided what they want to do, they inform the next level managers (Division managers).
The division manager reports to the top manager. The Division managers then inform the
Department managers.

How often do you change the plan?

The MEP GROUP's strategy is changed by top management by looking for opportunities and
threats in the environment and analyzing the company's resources to discover its strengths and
weaknesses. Management may create a number of different strategic scenarios and weigh them
against the organization's long-term goals. Management fleshes out the selected strategy in
terms of the measures to be performed in the near future to begin implementing it. Strategic
planning is a continuous process that requires strategic thinking. It is not a one-time or static
occurrence. MEP GROUP also reviews their plans on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis.
The primary goal of strategic planning is to ensure that everyone in an organization understands
the company's mission, vision, and values. So that all organizational levels of managers are
involved and empowered to make the best decisions for the organization's success. The first
step in developing this arrangement is to speak with managers at all levels of the business early
in the strategic planning process.

Why do you change or modify your plan?

A company's plan is altered for a variety of reasons. When an organization has to adjust or
modify its operations, it must do so. To be successful in the market, a company's plan must be
changed and revised on a regular basis. There have been numerous market shifts. Because
competition for clients is becoming stronger, they are attempting to attract them away from the
company. At that moment the old plan no longer works. People who work for the company
claim that they do not frequently adjust or alter their plans. The company in other words, only
update the plan if it is critical at the moment when the firm changes.

What are your thoughts about team work?

The MEP group is interested in studying and conceptualizing the efficiency, extent, and
flexibility of knowledge integration, for which there is limited empirical evidence. MEP
members come from the IT department, the Marketing department, the Human Resources
7

department, the Accounts department, and the Finance department. Each section operates
independently and produces its own output. However, when it comes to making a sale in the
market, all departments collaborate. They collaborate with teams such as the Marketing team,
the Sales team, the Design team, the accounting team, and the Management team.

Tell us about your strict

Departmentalization.
The grouping of jobs in one area of an organization is known as departmentalization. Many
firms benefit from the grouping because it improves productivity and allows employees to
concentrate in a certain area of the business. Departmentalization is one of the processes in
developing an organizational structure. MEP Group works on eight different departments:

• Accounts Department: The account department is in charge of creating

financial statements, keeping the general ledger up to date, paying bills, billing
customers, payroll, cost accounting, financial analysis, and other duties.
• Finance Department: The finance department's responsibilities often
include budgeting, planning, arranging, auditing, accounting, and controlling the
company's money.
• HRM Department: The HRM department's responsibilities are divided into
three categories: staffing, employee remuneration and benefits, and work
definition/design.
• Sales Department: MEP Group believes a good sales team is critical to a
company's success because the sales department is in charge of creating sales,
increasing their business, and maintaining existing clients. Finally, the most crucial role
of their sales staff is to keep their clients happy. This personal touch is essential for
maintaining happy, long-term client relationships, as well as increasing profits.
• Marketing Department: The MEP Group’s marketing division is in charge
of informing and convincing customers to purchase the company's products.
Advertising, sales promotion, personal selling, direct marketing, sponsorship, and
public relations are all part of its activities.
• Audit Department: The audit department performs periodic audits, often with
a far higher attention on detail than the independent public accountants of a corporation.
• Recruitment Department: The complete process of attracting, selecting,
and appointing qualified individuals for roles within the firm is referred to as the
recruitment department. The recruitment can be both permanent and temporary.
• Fine and Security Safety Department: This department is in charge
of securing a company's confidential objectives.
Each Department is distinct from the others and has distinct tasks to complete. None of the
department heads are in charge of any other departments. Each department has its own
department head who oversees all work operations in their respective departments. Another
8

department's chief cannot participate in decision making. Each department in the company
performs responsibilities based on the departments' expertise.

How do you communicate to gather

information in the organization?
There is a two-way communication system in place. There is free flow of information within
the organization. Top-level management offers information on instruction and advice to
subordinates, and subordinates provide information on accomplishments and issues at work to
the manager. This type of two-way communication aids in the solution of difficulties and the
smooth operation of activities. They convey information from Production to Marketing and
from Marketing to Sales.

Is your organization centralized?

It is a business structure in which one person takes the most significant decisions (such as how
to allocate resources) and establishes the long-term direction of the organization. Most small
firms are centralized, which means that the owner takes all decisions on products, services,
strategic direction, and the majority of other critical issues. However, it is not a small firm in
order for it to be centralized.
MEP is a group of employees who work for a company that is managed centrally. The Chief
Executive Officer (CEO), who took full control of MEP, wields significant decision-making
authority. MEP has traditionally been viewed of being an entity that has a lot of control over
things like new product development, market entry, and company acquisitions. Many firms in
fast changing technology contexts use a centralized system to manage their operations. In a
corporation run by one individual, it is difficult for lower-level managers to make judgments.
The benefits of centralized organizations include decision-making clarity, faster policy and
project implementation, and the capacity to exert influence over the organization's overall
strategic direction. The most obvious disadvantages of centralized firms are limited
opportunities for employees to voice feedback and a higher danger of being inflexible.

How does work specialization work in your

organization?
Work specialization makes optimum use of workers' diverse skill sets. Some jobs in the MEP
group of businesses, which manufactures electronic devices, demand highly developed talents,
while others can be completed by individuals with lower skill levels.
The highest senior position in any corporation is that of Managing Director (MD). With overall
accountability for the company's performance. Following the managing director, it is the job
of the factory manager or production head to oversee production and execution. After
managing director, however, there is another root that is Industrial Engineer and Production
planning and coordination. The Industrial Engineer does the following job:
9

❖ Skill test of the workers

❖ Taking order
❖ Planning
Whereas production planning and coordination assigns work to workers based on their
availability. Factory Manager is directly linked to:
❖ The floor in charge reports to the Production Manager, who oversees the supervisors
and ensures that the task is completed correctly. Then comes the line chief, who works
under the floor in command, and is followed by supervisors who look after the workers.
The raw-material section is then overseen by operators. There are helpers under them
who assist in passing materials or anything else around the factory.
❖ Finishing and Packaging Manager is a part of the produce purpose. Under the
Production Manager, there is an assistant manager who manages the materials, followed
by supervisors who issue permissions, and finally the production crew.
❖ In order to select the best quality, the quality manager carefully examines the quality of
each product. It is the supervisor's responsibility to approve it after the quality manager.
❖ The delivery manager packs things for market distribution, verifies the contents of
received parcels, supervises junior personnel, and orders supplies. The Sample
Manager reports to the Sales Manager, and his or her task is to exhibit the samples to
the distributor.

What do you do when you find out that your

planning was not adequate?
At a difficult situation like that the managers try to discuss about the issues with the workers
and try to find out how to decrease the damage and take actions to prevent it from happening
in future. Since MEP Group is a growing one, these kinds of situations are being faced and
resolved by the managers often. As the workers and the managers have good relationship
between them, solving the issues in a short period of time is not a big deal to them.

How often do you organize employee

training facilities to keep them up to date?
MEP Group organizes employee training facilities rarely. After having a conversation with us
they took our points into consideration and informed us that they will discuss with the higher
authorities on this topic.

What leadership style do you follow?

The organization follows autocratic leadership. Autocratic leadership is distinguished by the
exercise of complete individual authority over all decisions and the participation of only a few
members of the organization. Autocratic leaders typically make decisions based on their own
opinions and judgements, and they rarely listen to or accept suggestions from their followers.
Autocratic leadership requires wielding absolute power over a group of individuals. The person
in charge has entire authority and control over the decision-making process, which is typified
10

by autocratic leadership styles. Because of their position and work responsibilities, they not
only direct the efforts of the team, but they also ensure that they are completed, which is usually
done under close supervision.
According to the manager, they stick to long-term policies, rules, and make predictable
decisions. The primary issue of top-level management is decision-making. As a result, there is
a lesser risk of making a mistake in decision making. Because MEP is a huge organization with
a high number of employees, they can efficiently manage their staff by using a tight leadership
style. This significant corporation's autocratic leadership style has proven to be effective in
terms of cost savings. To establish a clear chain of command, they need an authoritarian
leadership style. To fulfill their long-term goals, they need an autocratic leadership style.

Conclusion
MEP GROUP has seen a lot of success since its establishment. To do this, the corporation
needed smart managers, well-trained people who worked hard, and high-quality items. It has
made a lot of money in recent years, making it a very profitable corporation. The corporation
aims to maintain good corporate governance by ensuring that everyone in the company is
disciplined and honest. This is accomplished by employing talented and dedicated workers.
Our country today has a large number of highly successful firms. MEP GROUP is among the
best. It is one of their goals to expand their business and make their name more well-
known. We discovered why they should manage things in a certain way after conducting some
investigation. A survey was also a fantastic idea because it allowed us understand more about
our research. Even if there may be a few errors in this report, we have done our best to keep it
accurate. We hope you find this report to be a valuable tool in the future.
