III – Answer the following questions.

1. How can we locate a place on the Earth.?

Ans: We can locate a place on the Earth with the help of latitudes and

longitudes on a globe or a map.

2. Mention one similarity and one difference between a latitude

and a longitude.

Ans: Similarity - The lines of latitudes and longitudes are imaginary lines.

Difference-The latitudes are horizontal lines whereas the longitudes are vertical

lines.

3. Name the four hemispheres into which the Earth can be divided.

Ans: The Earth can be divided into Northern Hemisphere, Southern

Hemisphere, Eastern Hemisphere, and Western Hemisphere.

4. What is the International Date Line?

Ans: The International Date Line is an imaginary line fixed by

international agreement for deciding the dates of Eastern and Western

Hemispheres of the Earth. It runs approximately around 180o

longitude.

5. What is a grid?

Ans: The imaginary crisscross network of latitudes and longitudes on the Earth’s

surface is called the grid.

IV – Think it Over (HOTS)

Have you or anyone you know, used a taxi service such as Uber or Ola? How

do these taxis find your location to pick you up and drop you at your chosen

destination? Discuss in class.

Answer:

Taxi services can pick up our location by finding our home address or any other

address on a map. These addresses are absolute location as it gives the exact

position where a place is located.
