Puresouls Learning Foundation is a Non-Governmental
Organisation (NGO) established in 2007 and has been at the
forefront of Advocacy for people living with Developmental
Disability with its particular focus on Autism. We have been
advocating for acceptance, inclusion, education, and skill
development of these groups of people.
Autism as we all know is a complex developmental disability

that typically appears during the first three years of life and is
the result of a neurological disorder that affects the normal
functioning of the brain, impacting development in the areas of
social interaction, communication, and imaginative skills. Both
children and adults with autism show difficulties
in verbal and non-verbal communication, social interactions and
leisure or play activities.
Some of them are gifted and talented, these scalable talents

need to be encouraged, appreciated, and showcased. One of
such activities is Art, through which these individuals find succor
and a sustainable career leading to an improvement in their
quality of life.
The value of art activities for children with special needs can't be
overemphasized! They provide all young children, and especially
children with special needs, with an outlet for expression and
creativity that enhances learning by Merle Karnes Ph.D.
Art activities are good ways to foster self-esteem. Because no

work of art is ever "wrong," children with special needs don't
need to worry that their art won't be "as good as" others!

Since art may be a new experience for many children with

special needs, it's a good idea to help them get started by talking
about and perhaps demonstrating a few ways to use materials
and techniques. Children can then choose which of these, or
other ideas, they want to explore. Encourage them to be as
independent as possible but be sure you're there to help if
needed.
Research has consistently demonstrated that involvement in the
arts increases student achievement across all subject areas, as
well as social and adaptive skills. Part of this is due to the multi-
sensory nature of the arts: memory and cognition improve when
academic content is combined with color-coding, movement,
rhythm, sound phrases, textures, and other sensory input.
These are the reasons we expose our children to art in order to

know what they are thinking and also to connect their thought
into reality.
Every year since 2015, we search for children and adults with
talents in Art and exhibit their works at various galleries but in
2021 we began our partnership and collaboration with Terra
Kulture. This has further exposed the artwork of the children to
international community. This program has now become a yearly
event.

KULTURE
Art is a shapeless mold that forms to fit the vessel it inhabits and
is boundless in its expressive capabilities. This is never truer than
in the Nigerian art landscape where you can find creatives, driven
by passion, ambition, and a selfless need to contribute to the
human conversations around daily lives, going above and beyond
to employ any means readily available to express themselves. To
tell uniquely personal stories.
Terra Kulture is a multiple award-winning cultural centre, an
educational and recreational organization set up in 2003 to
promote the richness and diversity of Nigerian Languages, Arts
and Culture.
Terra Kulture has organized over 300 art exhibitions, 200 plays
and over 70 book readings. Also, more than 30,000 people have
visited Terra Kulture on school tours, excursions or attended its
Nigerian language classes.
Terra Kulture also engages in training youths in theatre lighting

design, sound design, costume design, batik, tie and dye, makeup,
hair styling, production, acting, directing, production
management, props management, set design, animation and
choreography and motion graphics for stage, whom most have
become business owners and performing arts stars.
Terra Kulture has a deep history of working with children and
young adults, contributing to community development and
fostering collective charity. World Autism Awareness month is a
great opportunity to support causes that guide and groom those
living with disability, specifically autism. The exhibiting artists are
brilliant and what they have been able to come up with is truly
remarkable. This exhibition is another step in the right direction
and we are proud to present it to you.
