Every year, 11th November is celebrated as National education day, which commemorates the
birth anniversary of independent India’s first education minister, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.

In 2008, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (Now Ministry of Education) decided to
celebrate Azad’s birthday as National Education Day.

He served the nation from August 15, 1947, to February 2, 1958.

The theme for National Education Day 2022 is “Changing Course, Transforming Education.”
Birth: Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, originally named Muhiyuddin Ahmad, was born on 11th
November 1888 in Mecca, Saudi-Arabia.

In 1920, he was elected as a member of the foundation committee to establish Jamia Millia
Islamia at Aligarh in UP. He also assisted in shifting the university campus from Aligarh to
New Delhi in 1934. Now, the main gate of the campus is named after him.

Other key areas where he focused were adult literacy, free and compulsory for all children
up to the age of 14, universal primary education, and diversification of secondary education
and vocational training.

He also oversaw the establishment of the Department of Education of the University of


Delhi, the first Indian Institute of Technology in 1951 and the University Grants Commission
in 1953.
The first IIT, IISc, School of Planning and Architecture and the University Grants
Commission were established under his tenure as the education minister.

Indian Council for Cultural Relations, for introduction of Indian culture to other nations.

Following three academics were formed:


• Sahitya Academy for development of literature;
• Sangeet Natak Academy for the development of Indian music and dance;
• Lalit Kala Academy for the development of painting.

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was posthumously awarded India's highest civilian honour,
Bharat Ratna in 1992.

Bihari Puraskar to Madhu Kankaria and Dr. Madhav Hada
Famous litterateurs Madhu Kankaria and Dr. Madhav Hada were
awarded the 31st and 32nd Bihari Puraskar for 2021 and 2022
respectively in a program organised in Udaipur on 9 November.

Prof. Indravardhan Trivedi, Vice Chancellor of Mohanlal Sukhadia


University, Udaipur, the chief guest of the program presented two and a
half lakh rupees, citation and emblem to the litterateurs.

The award was presented to Madhu Kankaria for his novel 'Hum
Yahan The' and to Dr. Madhav Hada for his critical work
'Pacharang Chola Pahar Sakhi Re'.

Kankaria, a recipient of Bihari Puraskar 2021, has written many prose,


poems and books. His novel 'Hum Yahan The' is based on the struggle
of tribals in Jharkhand.

It also provides information about the culture, society and economic


conditions of Kolkata.
About Bihari Puraskar

Bihari Puraskar is one of the three literary


awards instituted by the KK Birla
Foundation in 1991.

Named after the famous poet Bihari, the


award for Rajasthani writers carries a
cash prize of Rs 2.5 lakh, a plaque and a
citation.

It is given every year for an outstanding


work published in Hindi or Rajasthani by a
Rajasthani writer.

The awardees are selected by a


selection committee headed by
Chairman Hemant Shesh.
YKC Wadiyar received International Kannadiga Ratna
award • Member of the erstwhile royal family Yaduveer Krishnaraja
Chamaraja (YKC) Wadiyar has been selected for the International
Kannada Rathna award.
• It is presented annually by Dubai Kannadigas to mark Kannada
Rajyothsava.
• The award will be presented to YKC Wadiyar during Vishwa Kannada
Habba on November 19, 2022, in association with Kannadigaru
Dubai Sangha.

India to host 2023 women’s World Boxing Championship
The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has confirmed that the
2023 IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships will be hosted
by India, in New Delhi.

This will be the third time, when the prestigious women’s


competition will be held in India.

Earlier, the event was organised in 2006 and 2018 in New Delhi.

The tournament is likely to be held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

The 2023 men’s world championship will be held in Tashkent in


May.

In 2017, Youth Women’s World Boxing Championships took


place in Guwahati.

Aruna Miller becomes first Indian-American to be Lt
Governor Of Maryland
• Aruna Miller (58) has become the first Indian-
American politician to win the election of
Lieutenant Governor in the state of Maryland.
• She is also the first South Asian woman to serve
at such an important position.
• She was born in Hyderabad, India in 1964 and
was immigrated to the United States when she
was seven-years-old.
• She became a US citizen in 2000.
• In the absence of Governor, the Lieutenant
Governor fills in as the state's second-highest
elected official.
All India Rubber Industries Association elects Ramesh
Kejriwal as president
Ramesh Kejriwal has been elected as president the All India Rubber
Industries Association (AIRIA) for 2022-23.

He has succeeded Dr. Sawar Dhanania.

Prior to this, he was a Managing Committee Member of AIRIA and had


served as the Eastern Region Chairman.

Shashi Singh has also appointed as the senior vice president of AIRIA.

AIRIA was set up in 1945, is an apex body for rubber industries.


Cauvery South Wildlife Sanctuary notified as 17th
wildlife sanctuary of TN
• Tamil Nadu CM, M K Stalin has declared
the Cauvery South Wildlife Sanctuary as
17th wildlife sanctuary of state.
• The sanctuary was notified under Section
26-A of the Wild Life (Protection) Act,
1972.
• It covers reserve forest areas in
Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts,
which is a home to 35 species of
mammals, 238 species of birds and many
more.
• This sanctuary will connect Cauvery North
Wildlife Sanctuary (TN) with the Cauvery
Wildlife Sanctuary (Karnataka).
Goa CM launched Purple Fest logo
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has launched
the logo of Purple Fest at a function held in Manohar
Parrikar Memorial Hall of Sanjay Centre for
Education, Porvorim.

The event will be organized from January 6 to 8 next


year in Panaji.

The event will be jointly organized by the State


Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Goa, in
collaboration with the Directorate of Social Welfare
and Entertainment Society of Goa.

This first-of-its-kind festival will benefit persons with


disabilities.

National Fisheries Development Board receives "India Agribusiness
Award 2022"
Dr. Sanjeev K Balyan, Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal
Husbandry and Dairying presented the 'India Agribusiness Award
2022' to the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) on
November 10, 2022.

This award was given for outstanding work in the field of fisheries.

The award was given for supporting and playing a significant role in
technology upgradation, species diversification in aquaculture,
propagation of new and improved fish species, seaweed cultivation,
ornamental fishes, training and capacity building on need based
projects.

Indian Chamber of Food and Agriculture (ICFA) is organising 'Agro


World 2022'-India International Agribusiness & Technology Fair-2022
from 9th to 11th November, 2022 at Indian Agricultural Research
Institute, Pusa Campus, New Delhi.
QS Asia University Rankings 2023 released
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay is
the best educational education in Southern Asia
while IIT Delhi ranks second in the region,
according to the QS Asia University Rankings
2023.

IIT-Bombay has ranked 40th (Last year: 42nd)


in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Asia
University Rankings 2023, followed by IIT Delhi
(46).

Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore is


placed at the 52nd spot followed by IIT Madras
(53), IIT Kharagpur (61), IIT Kanpur (66), and
University of Delhi (85).
15th edition

In a big achievement, around 19 Indian universities featured in the top 200 list of QS Asia
Universities Ranking 2023

India's second-best private university, Chandigarh University Gharuan stood at 185th


position in Asia. The university is known to be Asia's youngest university to be featured in
the top 200 universities in the QS Asia Universities of Asia.

Top 4: China’s Peking University; National University of Singapore, Tsinghua University,


Beijing, and The University of Hong Kong
India hosted the 2nd BIMSTEC Agriculture Ministers
meeting
India hosted the Second Agriculture Ministerial-level meeting of the
Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic
Cooperation (BIMSTEC) at New Delhi on 10 November under the
chairmanship of the Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers
Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar.

Agriculture ministers of Bhutan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar, Sri


Lanka and Thailand participated in the meeting.

Referring to the International Year of Millets - 2023, he urged for


adopting a healthy diet for all.

He asked the participating countries to actively participate in India's


initiative to promote coarse cereals as food.
