RBI targeted inflation at 4% for sustainable economic growth 📊

Henley Passport Index: India ranked 85th
• France topped the list, as its passport provides visa-free access to 194 countries.
• Germany, Italy, Japan, and Singapore also ranked first alongside France.
• India slipped one rank down from last year to 85th even as the countries with visa-free access to
its citizens increased to 62 from 60 in 2023.

• As per the UN MMEIG 2020 report, India's MMR declined from 384 in 2000 to 103 in 2020, a 6.36%
annual reduction rate.
• The decline in India's MMR is three times higher than the global decline rate of 2.07%.
• Government initiatives like PMSMA, SUMAN, JSSK, LaQshya, VHSND, and HWCs have
contributed to this decline.
Challenges in Elderly Care in India: "India Ageing Report 2023"
• “India Ageing Report 2023” has been prepared by the United Nations Population Fund(UNFPA)
and International Institute of Population Sciences(IIPS), on the welfare of senior citizens in India.
• It highlights challenges such as digital illiteracy, mental health stigma, and poverty among senior
citizens.
• The Government of India is addressing these challenges through laws, policies, schemes, etc.

London was the most congested city in the world in 2023.

RBI’s Digital Payments Index rises in September 2023
• RBI’s Digital Payments Index increased to 418.77 in September 2023 from 395.57 in March 2023.
• The RBI-DPI has been constructed with March 2018 as the base period, that is, the DPI score for
March 2018 is set at 100. In September 2019, the index stood at 173.49, which rose to 217.74 in
September 2020, and to 304.06 in September 2021.

• The number of new cancer cases will rise to more than 35 million in 2050 - 77% higher than 2022.

• India had more than 14.1 lakh new cancer cases and over 9.1 lakh deaths.
• Cancers of lip, oral cavity and lung were the most common ones in men.
• Breast and cervix cancer were the most frequent ones in women.
International Energy Agency Electricity 2024 Report
• India's electricity demand to grow at 6.5% annually until 2026, surpassing China's growth rate.
• Coal remains the dominant energy source, meeting 68% of India's electricity needs in 2026.
• Nuclear and hydro generation to expand, with Asia set to overtake North America in nuclear
generation.
• India is also expanding renewable energy, with a target of 40% non-fossil fuel generation by
2030.
Consumer Price Index for industrial workers sees slight decrease
• The All-India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) for December 2023 decreased
by 0.3 points to 138.8, marking a 0.22% decline compared to the previous month.
• The Food & Beverages group contributed the most to the downward pressure on the index.
• The year-on-year inflation for December stood at 4.91%, slightly lower than the previous month's
4.98%.
