I – Objectives
At the end of 45minutes, the students will be able to:
Graphs and illustrates a Linear Function and its (a) domain; (b) range; (c) table of
values; (d) intercepts; and (e) slope

II – Subject Matter
Topic : Graphs and illustrates a Linear Function and its(d) intercepts; and
(e) slope
Reference(s) : First Edition, 2020.Quarter 2 Module 3.Mathematics 8
Learner’s Module.SD Publication Inc. Philippines
Instructional Materials : (related to the lesson and objectives)
Skill(s) : ( LOTS & HOTS )
Value(s) :

III – Procedure
Review
After the preliminary activities the teacher will review their previous topic.
1. How did you find the y- value?
2. How to graph a function using the table of values?

Motivation
The teacher will give an activity.

Title of the Activity: DESCRIBE ME!

This activity will enable you to describe the graph of a linear equation in terms of its
intercepts, slope and points. Direction: Given the graph at the right, find the following.
After the activity, the teacher will provide feedback by asking the following questions:
1. How did you graph the function?
2. What do you think our topic for today?
3. How did you use the slope?
A. Presentation of the lesson (lesson proper)

The teacher will introduce the learning objectives for the present lesson by giving the
student’s opportunity to read it aloud synchronously.

Using x and y intercepts

The x a and y intercepts of the line could represent two points, which are (a, 0,),(0,b). Thus,
the intercepts are enough to graph the linear function.

Using slope and y-Intercept

Slope and Intercept of a Linear Function The slope-intercept form of a line is y=mx+b. Where
m is the slope and b is the y-intercept. The slope-intercept form of a linear equation makes it
easier for us to identify how steep a line is and where it crosses the axis.
Example: y=2x+4
Slope is 2
y- intercept is 4.

B. Application
The teacher will conduct the following activity
FIND MY SLOPE AND INTERCEPT! Procedure: Within the same group, the
teacher will provide the materials to be needed to achieve this activity. In this activity
every group will be given the same problem and they will be going to answer it base
on the direction of the teacher. They are giving 5 minutes only. Direction: Find the
slope and intercept. 1. Find the slope of the line. y=6x+2 2. Find the y-intercept of the
line. y=-7x+4 3. Find the slope of the line. y=-3x+5
C. Generalization
The teacher will go back to the objective of the lesson and have a recap to the
students by asking the following questions:
1. How to graph the function in using x and y intercepts?
2. What is another way of describing linear functions?

The teacher will do probing technique to help students to arrive the correct answers

IV – Evaluation
The teacher will request the students to keep their notes and get a ½ sheet of paper.

1. What function is defined by f(x) = mx + b, where m is the slope and b is the y-

intercept, m and b ∈ ℜ and m ≠ 0. The degree of the function is one and its graph is a
line.
a. Linear c. Cubic b. Quadratic d. Quartic
2. Determine the slope of the function f(x)= -3x – 12
a. 3 c. 1/3 b. -3 d. – 1/ 3
3. Which of the following choices is the slope of the linear function f(x) = 3x + 6
a. 3 b. 6 c. 3x d.x
4. All of the following statements are linear functions EXCEPT one. Which is it?
a. y = 3x + 4 b. 2y = 6x c. y = 9 d. y = x2 + 2
5. Which of the following is the slope of f(x) = -6x+3?
a. 3 c. x b. 6 d. -6

V – Assignment / Agreement
Direction: Answer the following in a graphing paper.
Graph ( 𝑥) − 3 4 𝑥 + 6 using the slope and intercept.
a. What is slope? b. What is intercept?

 Review
 Prayer
Before we start our lesson, let’s pray.
(Student will lead the prayer )
Please lead the prayer (name of the
student).
 Greetings Good morning ma’am.
Good morning class! Thank you ma’am.
You may now take your seats. (The students will take their seats).
 Checking of Attendance Yes ma’am.
Say present as I call your last name.
In our previous topic, we discussed about Illustrating
relation and function.
How did you find the y- value?
Very good. Take your seat.

How to graph a function using the table of

values?

None ma’am.

Very good. Seems you understand our previous

lesson. Any question?

 Motivation
Now, are you ready for our new lesson?
But before that let’s play a game!

Title of the Activity: DESCRIBE ME!

This activity will enable you to describe the graph of a
linear equation in terms of its intercepts, slope and
points. Direction: Given the graph at the right, find the
following.

Slope= 1/2
Rise=-2 or -1
Run=4 or 2
x-intercept=4
y-intercept=2
(After 3 minutes ) y 2,1,0,-1,-2
Time is up!

 Presentation of the Lesson (Lesson Proper)

What did you feel while doing the activity? Challenged ma’am.

What do you think our topic for today?

It is all about slope and intercepts.

Okay, very well. Today we will discuss about

Graphing and illustrating Linear Function and
its slope and intercepts.
(Students will read the objectives
Here’s our objective. You all read our

objectives.

Now, do you have any idea about this topic?

None ma’am.

Title of the Activity: Who am I?

Procedure: Students will find their own partner.
Answer the following questions that refers to the
graph. They will be given 5 minutes to answer the
activity.
None ma’am.

(Students will start answering )

Answer:
1. -3
2. 6

and 2.
(Students will listen carefully.)
Okay very good.

Using x and y intercepts

The x a and y intercepts of the line could represent
two points, which are (a, 0,),(0,b). Thus, the intercepts
are enough to graph the linear function.
