Performance Task No. 1

Creating Your Budget

This activity will let the students use their knowledge of fractions and decimals in drawing a
budget.

Learning Standards

Content The learners demonstrate an understanding of:

Standard ● fractions; and
● decimals and percentage

Performance The learners shall be able to:

Standards ● perform operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
accurately; and
● solve problems involving fractions, decimals, and percent related to
business.

Task Requirements
In fulfilling the task, you will need the following:
● data about your household’s expenses in a month; and
● prices of these goods and services.

Goal
The goal is to apply the operations on fractions, decimals, and percentages in real life.

Unit 1: Fundamental Operations: Fractions, Decimals, and Percentages 1

Role
You are the budget keeper of the household. Your tasks are to monitor the household's
expenses, to examine your spending habits, and to determine how you can minimize your
costs and increase your savings.

Audience
You must convince your household members and other households of a strategy to
minimize expenses and increase savings through budgeting.

Situation
The context is that your household wants to know if there are ways to increase savings and
minimize your expenses. You were tasked to analyze the spending patterns and propose
ways to achieve the goal. You must list the things you usually consume at home, categorize
them, and show how much funds were used on these. You may also compare the prices of
different brands, supermarkets, wet markets, or online stores. What is your strategy to limit
expenses and increase your savings upon analyzing the data? Convince the household
members of the benefits of your proposal by showing the numbers in decimals, fractions,
and percentages.

Product
An analysis of the current household cost and expenses, a budget and strategy to increase
savings, and expected results that are supported by mathematical data.
