CHEMISTRY
MARKS- 35 Time : 2 hrs

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:
1. There are 12 questions in all. All questions are compulsory.
2. This question paper has three sections- A, B and C. Section A contains three questions of 2 marks
each. Section B contains eight questions of 3 marks each. Section C contains only one question of 5
marks.
3. An internal choice has been provided in one question of 2 marks and two questions of 3 marks.

SECTION – A
1. State Le Chateliers principle.
2. State Boyle’s law. Draw the graph for Boyle’s law.
OR
Beryllium and Magnesium do not give color to flame whereas other alkaline earth
metals do so. Why?
3. Define isothermal process and adiabatic process.

SECTION – B
4. (1) Write the conjugate acids for the following Bronsted Bases:
NH2- , NH3, and HCOO-
(2) What are Lewis acids and Lewis Base? Give examples.
5. 103 mL of carbon dioxide were collected at 270C and 763 mm pressure. What will be its
volume if the pressure is changed to 721 mm at the same temperature?
OR
0
At 27 C and one atmospheric pressure, a gas has volume V. What will be its volume at
177oC and a pressure of 1.5 atmosphere?
6. State Law of Chemical Equilibrium. Derive the relationship between Kp and KC.
7. State Hess’s law of constant heat summation.Write any three applications of Hess’s law.
OR
State and explain first law of thermodynamics. Derive its mathematical form.

8. (i) Two liter of an ideal gas at a pressure of 10 atm expands isothermally into vacuum
until its total volume is 10 L. How much heat is absorbed and how much work is done in
the expansion.

(ii) Consider the same expansion, to a final volume of 10 L conducted reversibly. In such
condition how much heat is absorbed?

9. Explain the following

(i) Gallium has higher ionization enthalpy than aluminum.
(ii) Tl+1 act as an oxidizing agent.
10. Discuss the pattern of variation in the oxidation state of B to Tl
11. Predict in which of the following, entropy increases/decreases. Give reason.
(i) Temperature of crystalline solid is raised from 0K to 115K
(ii) H2(g) 2H (g)

SECTION – C
12. (1) Find out oxidation state of sodium in Na2O2.
(2) Explain why sodium is less reactive than potassium?
(3) Draw the structure of i. BeCl2 (vapour) ii. BeCl2 (solid).
(4) Compare the alkali metals and alkaline earth metals with respect to ionization
enthalpy and solubility of hydroxides.
