Draeva's Book of Riddles

A collection of riddles of varying difficulty.

From Veins
Easy From veins like blood we ebb and flow
The Mistress
From cold and dark the light we show
A mistress’s kiss so bittersweet
Bring strength or pain to all we know
The lips of many men does meet
Feared and loved by man.
Dull the mind, soften the beat
Until its time does pass. Hard
The Wolf My Voice
A wolf ravages a village, eating its people alive. Many hear my voice
No knight nor magician could slay it, no steel nor fire could Yet never have I spoke
stop its brutal feast.
All those I've given power
No matter how many gathered to fight it, it only grew Will always wear my yoke
stronger
But when the people flee, it dies. Dimming Light
Swallowing earth, dimming light
The Mother
A mother wears yellow, her child plays No warrior can best my might
A mother wears orange, her child feasts My bite brings sleep, slow but sure
A mother wears white, her child sleeps Against me is a fruitless war.
A mother wears green, her child sings. The Fisherman’s Net
Why does a fisherman cast a full net?
Medium
White Crop Very Hard
White crop in black earth The Lover
Harvest comes when winter ends A lover meets his partner after sunset
Reaping with twin scythes. His beauty and pain so perfect and impossible
My Breath So well he knows their heart, better than even they
My heavy breath carries you well, But never is he faithful
Within my grasp your breath does quell Beneath
Under my sheets do many men sleep Beneath your feet or in your mouth
And on my bed their bones I keep. Of truth, or salt, if one does doubt
In flesh and wood, thin, not stout
I Bring Life
I bring life and I bring death We are many, what are we?
I give and take your final breath Heavier Than Stone
I claim the sky, and eat the sun, Heavier than stone, lighter than air
And yet of heed, you pay me none. Crueler than sin, and all that is fair
Prisoner to some, jailer to others
Sought by all, shared among brothers.
