5 Commitments What should be done?


1. Make disaster risk reduction (DRR)  Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 outlines seven

risk governance to manage disaster risk, 3. Investing
in disaster reduction.
2. Know the risks and take action. Identify the hazards. In order to identify hazards you
need to understand the difference between a 'hazard'
and 'risk, Decide who might be harmed and how.

4. Reduce risk. Review the lists of possible risk sources as well as


the project team’s experiences and knowledge.

5. Be prepared and ready to act. As you’re preparing for ACT test day, try to develop
an understanding of what the test-makers “prefer” in
terms of the answer choices.

1. Why is disaster preparedness extremely important? Being prepared can reduce fear, anxiety, and losses
that accompany disasters.

2. What prompted UNESCO and the different countries involved to come up with the 5 Hyogo Commitments?
UNESCO fosters scientific programs and policies as platforms for development and cooperation, In
response, UNESCO's duty remains to reaffirm the humanist missions of education, science and culture.

3. How will these 5 Hyogo Commitments help us to mitigate disasters like volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and
tsunamis? Know your local evacuation routes and evacuation sites.

4. How should we prepare for disasters that include volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and tsunamis?
Volcanic eruptions may be subtle or explosive and can produce dangerous lava flows , poisonous gases,
and flying rocks and ash. ... If you live near a volcano, active or dormant, be prepared to act on short
notice.
