Introduction
Rommy Revson invented the Scrunchie in 1987. She designed the original Scrunchie prototype
because she wanted a softer alternative to the metal hair ties popular in the 1980s. [1] Scrunchies
are a type of hair item that include an elastic band covered with a piece of fabric. They can be
worn as headbands, bracelets, or to hold back long hair. Although scrunchies have a reputation
for destroying ponytails and shouldn't be worn too tightly, current scrunchies are less destructive
than older models because of the material's improved softness and thickness.
The global scrunchies market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 7.5% from 2016 to 2030. The
key drivers of this market include the increasing popularity of scrunchies among women of all
ages and the growing demand for eco-friendly and sustainable products. However, silk
scrunchies are expected to grow at a higher rate during the forecast period. [2]
A hair scrunchie is an elastic hair tie with a fabric covering that is used to secure short,
medium-length, and long hair types. A hair scrunchie is a little elastic band covered in flowy
fabric that when wrapped around a ponytail creates a ruffle. Hair scrunchies come in a variety of
large, small, and medium sizes. Customers may get hair scrunchies in a wide variety of colors,
materials, styles, and patterns from producers. Scrunchies are beneficial for all types of hair
because they prevent damage. The fabric layer that surrounds the elastic band prevents the hair
from becoming twisted and knotted while using a scrunchie.
Types of scrunchies
There are various types of Scrunchies that are now available in global and local markets.
These are defined by different fabrics, sizes, and patterns.Those are : Casual scrunchies, Cotton
Scrunchie, Slip Scrunchie, Silk Thin Scrunchie, Plaid Scrunchie, Velvet Scrunchies, Short &
Long tailed Scrunchie. Silk scrunchies are more comfortable than other types.
Usages and Demand for Scrunchies in Bangladesh
Scrunchies are very important for girls' hair. In Bangladesh we can see there are various kinds of
scrunchies in the local market. But nowadays there are so many online and local shops selling
new kinds of scrunchies, most of them are homemade products. Homemade Scunchies are made
by different types of designed silk which are more attractive and that's why customers buy them
as their fashion accessories. Nowadays in our country scrunchies are used not only for tying hair
but also as girls' fashion. Girls can match their scrunchies with their dress color which make
them more attractive in their fashion sense. For that they are buying more scrunchies than before.
So the demand for scrunchies is increasing day by day.
Eunoia is an online based shop. They made scrunchies for comfort and fashion for ladies. It is
owned by a college girl,who is dedicated to her business. She manages her business through her
Instagram Page Named ‘EUNOIA’. She runs her business from Bogura. At the beginning she
first launched her handmade scrunchies which were made by single colored medium cotton.
Although many of her friends responded to her business immediately and they were purchasing
her products through her page. Then she started to use many types of fabric as different people
prefer different fabrics. And now the shop sells Casual scrunchies, Cotton Scrunchie, Slip
Scrunchie, Silk Thin Scrunchie, Plaid Scrunchie, Velvet Scrunchies, Short & Long tailed
Scrunchie. And they made the product based on different themes such as different flowers.
Their Marketing Strategy: From the beginning Eunoia used social media as their major
marketing platform. In the beginning her friends and family promoted her page through social
media which helped the shop to grow. But then Their customers give reviews and promote her
products through instagram shoutout, which was very effective to gain more customers. Once
she sent her product to social media influencers to promote her products which is very cost
effective and from this strategy the shop reached a lot more customers, especially the young
generation and that was very unexpected for Eunoia.
