PREFACE

Prepositions and the rules concerning their usage can be confusing to learners of English as a second
language. Basically, prepositions are connecting words that join objects to other parts of sentences.
Preposition choice is determined by the noun, verb, adjective or particle which precedes it.

English also has many instances of prepositions coming after nouns. In many cases, the prepositions precede
phrases containing nouns or pronouns. It is also possible for the prepositions to precede an -ing verb.

Hence, this module was developed to introduce English Language Learners to most frequently used noun +
preposition combinations.

Each lesson has fifteen noun + preposition combinations which are arranged alphabetically. Some of the
expressions are from the article from the Reading Speaking Coaching Module.
As this booklet use Present Practice Produce Approach, the expressions are first to be presented and defined
for students by the teacher. The teacher may explain the expressions through the given sample sentences. Then
the student try to complete the two incomplete sentences and make or construct two more sentences on their
own using the expression.

Finally, every fifth day of the week is a short exercise for teachers to check the understanding of the students.
