MY DIARY
This was our third day of community service and our first duty for the
month of November. Our community duty is still in Barangay Lucao, Dagupan
City. This time we are going to make a family nursing care plan, so I came back
to Purok 1, where the Banan family lives.
I interview them again and check if they are doing fine. I asked them a
lot about their surroundings, their needs, and also about their health to assess
the problems they were carrying. Her daughter is now doing well, unlike when
she was three months old. The Banan family doesn’t yet have their own house
due to financial problems. They are only staying with their mother-in-law. That
is why they have an extended family. They were not discouraged, but instead,
they have hope that someday they will achieve their dream of having their own
house. Based on my experience, I can say that extended families can be fun to
be around where family members can share their concerns, stresses, and
responsibilities with other family members, such as their parents, who
genuinely care about their well-being. This frequently results in the formation
of a close family support structure, which reduces individual stress and
promotes happiness. But it depends on the family. Mr. Banan is a tricycle
driver, and they stated that it is not enough to sustain their needs in everyday
life. They are eating only vegetables three times a day because the meat is
expensive. They said that sometimes they eat meat when there’s enough money
to buy it. I observe that they are all thin, and I can say that they are at risk for
malnutrition. Mrs. Banan's father has diabetes, and her mother has asthma.
Their children are at risk for diabetes and asthma. I've also noticed that the
environment, due to a lack of space and the presence of mosquitoes, can
spread diseases like dengue.
Even though they have that kind of problem, they still manage to smile
and have a happy family. As the quote goes, “Family is the heart of a home.”

MY DIARY
Filipino families enjoy close kin bonds, and extended families living
together is the norm. Blood bonds are so important, traditionally, that a person
can be judged on the basis of who her or his relatives are. It follows that
parents and children share an exceptionally strong and intimate bond. They
give each other much mutual affection and respect. After interviewing the
Cuison family, I accompanied Ms. Vinluan and Ms. Estacio to their target
family, which is also in the Pilapil area.
