Abstract

Meezan Bank is the largest Islamic Banking Network of Pakistan. Islamic banking
is one of the fastest growing segments of the financial industry. Banks serving the
Islamic population must comply with several very specific principles of Islamic
law if they hope to retain existing customers and attract new ones. Banks must be
ready with specialized products and services and they must put programs in place
to train their personnel to support these products and services in order to exist in
this competitive marketplace.
Chapter 1
Introduction

1.1 Introduction
Meezan Bank Limited is the first and largest Islamic bank in Pakistan. The bank is
headquartered at Meezan House in Karachi, Pakistan. It offers the largest branch
network and the widest range of products to fulfill all Islamic financing needs of
individuals and businesses. Pakistan’s best bank and the first and largest Islamic
bank, is a publicly listed company with a paid-up capital of Rs. 16.26 billion. The
bank has a market share of 35% in the Islamic banking industry of the country. It is
one of the fastest growing financial institutions in the banking sector of the
country. With its Vision of establishing ‘Islamic banking as banking of first choice’
the First Islamic Bank commenced operations in 2002, after being issued the first
ever Islamic commercial banking license by the State Bank of Pakistan.

The bank provides a comprehensive range of Islamic banking products and


services through a retail banking network of more than 845 branches in more
than 240 cities of the country. Backed by a state-of-the art T-24 core banking
system, the branch network is supported by 24/7 banking services that include
over 660 ATM’s, VISA, MasterCard and Debit cards, a Call Center, Internet
Banking, Mobile Application and SMS Banking facility.

1.2 Vision
Establish Islamic banking as banking of first choice to facilitate the
implementation of an equitable economic system, providing a strong foundation
for establishing a fair and just society for mankind.

1.3 Mission
To be a premier Islamic bank, offering a one-stop shop for innovative value-added
products and services to our customers within the bounds of Shariah, while

2.1 Level of the Business


The branches of Meezan bank is on national level or international level. It is an
Islamic bank which is present all over the world. It has 760 branches all over the
Pakistan. It is an award winning bank that had won 3 awards. The list of branches
and ATM’s are listed below in the table:

2.2 Swot Analysis


Being aware of the environment in which one operates, as well as of one’s own
strengths and weaknesses, is a key element in the success or failure of any
business. Meezan Bank’s management is cognizant of the fact that the economy
and the banking industry are in a state of flux and regularly conducts SWOT
analysis of the organization to capitalize on its strength and work on its weaknesses
in view of the opportunities available in its environment and the threats that it
needs to overcome. A SWOT Analysis of the business as it stands today is given
below:

HR Department of Meezan Bank

3.1 Working of HR Department


The HR department of meezan bank follows the function of Human Resource
Management. Those functions are as follow:

Staffing :
Staffing is the first and most important step of any organization. Meezan Bank
have their own way of hiring new people. It is handled by their HR department.
They make a job description for the new employee and give it to the Corporate
Department Communication.Corporate Department Communication is specially
made for any type of advertisement, this department approved the advertisement
which are made by the bank without its permission the bank does not do any kind
of advertisement. This department will help the branch for their hiring process.
They use different type of filters for their hiring process such as grade of the
person, specialization, written test and interviews. But they also had their own
hiring level in the bank.The hiring levels are as follow:

3. Am (Area Manager)
4. Avp (Area Vice President)
5. Vp (Vice president)

7. Evp (Employee value proposition As a head)

Training and Development:


After the fresh hiring process, the training and development process start. They do
their orientation first so the employ become familiar with the environment. Then
they start their training for few months and to evaluate their performance as either
they are giving the benefits to the organization or they fulfill the banks requirement
or not. After their evaluation their performance and their behaviour in the bank and
with the peoples, they give them the permanent job. All these things handled by
their HR department. This helps the employ to develop their career by learning
new skills.

Motivation:
Employee motivation is the level of commitment, energy and innovation that a
company's staff hold during the working day. Firstly, the employee’s of the bank
do not demotivate. If they demotivate, the HR of bank find out the reason of their
demotivation and try to solve it. If the reason is regarding about the behavior of the
employee’s, environment of the bank or some money problem etc they do their
best to solve the problem of the employee and motivate them to work in a efficient
way so they can give benefits to the bank.

Maintenance:
It is the duty of the HR department to maintain their employee in the bank. They
maintain their employee by giving them a good environment in which they can
work comfortably and give maximum performance and benefits to the company.
They make the people to adjust in all type of situation.They give their employee’s
bonuses and awards in the form of money,health insurance etc. Beside everything
if the employee has some problem regarding income, environment or behaviour
etc, or he does not want to work there, the HR of the bank find the reason and do
their best to solve the problem of the employ, so that he can stay in the bank. They
do their best to maintain their employ.

Working of Software Engineer

4.1 Software used in bank and HR Department


The software used in the bank is T24-Tominoze. This software is used to handle
every type of detail regarding about their customers, their bank accounts, their
transactions etc. And the software which is used by the HR department is oracle
and its website. It contains all the details about the employee’s and it also contain
and gathers the information about the new hiring employee’s.

4.2 Hiring of Software Engineer


They hire a software engineer according to their working. Especially they hire for
maintenance of the software that they use in their bank. They use different type of
filters for hiring a software engineer such as:

III. Written Test

IV. Interview

4.3 Role of Software Engineer


The role of the software engineer is to maintain the software that they used in the
bank and in the HR department. He is specialized enough so that he could be able
to fix any problem that could arise in their software during working. They also
have the same job that the bank offers like cashier and officer etc.

5.1 Conclusion
The bank is working well. All the system of bank is up-to-dated. The behavior of
the staff of the bank is very cooperative. The ATM system is very fast. They give
information of every transaction through SMS. They work completely within the
limits of Shariah.
