Part 1

Task 1B

1) Give examples of words and expressions in Text A that tell you something about the reporter’s
attitude to Willy and his supporters.

- In the newspaper report we find words that gives us a closer look at the reporter’s attitude, such
as the words “disgraced” or “desperately”. The reporter calmly and factually reported the news. In
text B we can see that one of the fans got very angry and we can feel that through the text.

2) Give examples of words and expressions in Text B that tell you it is spoken, rather than written
English.
- By the way they wrote it down, it’s easy to notice that it was spoken

3) Write a more neutral or objective version of what seems to have happened.

A very interesting relationship between the journalists, photographers and the millionaire Willy
Wilder. it is well known that the millionaire has always had a good relationship with the journalists,
photographers who have respected the privacy of the millionaire so far. Unfortunately Willy Wilder
has always provided interesting news, such as the present case shows. Coincidentally, the
journalists were wounded while they were trying to shed light on what really happened. Probably
the aggressive crowd is no longer as tolerant as they were to the millionaire such as the journalists
and photographers are.

Part 2

2D)
The USA has a long history with problems related to racism. In recent times a noticeable rise in
tension between groups in America has been seen both in relation to police brutality and the
Presidential election in 2020.
Write a text where you explore the reasons for why racism occurs, and the consequences it has for
both a society and individuals. How can racism be dealt with within a democracy?
Give your text a suitable title.

The law is written in black and white

“It is not enough not to be racist. You have to be anti-racist!” - said Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
Seeing what is happening overseas, Europeans are amazed and find it difficult to understand why
things have deteriorated the way they are now. USA has a long story related to racism.
On May. 25th George Floyd was killed by the police in front of cameras, he was killed in a cruel
way because of an allegedly counterfeit 20 dollar. The case, which can in no way be called isolated,
has provoked a huge wave of protests in the country and even worldwide and in some respects it
has been resounding success. Never before in such a short time has the American public turned so
much on any issue in racism and black equality. The proportion of those who sympathize with
Black Lives Matter has risen from 64 percent to 92 percent among white Democrats and from 20
percent to 37 percent among white Republicans in four years, like we can see from Pew’s data.
Over the past decade, American public opinion has been on a number of issues, such as gay
marriage or cannabis, but these have been much slower, gradual trends, with only opinions
changing in proportion to population change.

The U.S. past is notoriously pretty dark in this perspective. Let’s take a look at the historical
process that has put the African American population in its current position and will affect on the
next generations. From the 16th century, slavery was still practiced in the USA and is now called
“modern-day slavery”. Many slaves from Africa has been sent further in the 13 colonies, New York,
new Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland,
North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia and Pennsylvania. The 13 American colonies got
independence after the US war of Independence. The liberation of the slaves was a huge step
however, the situation of the liberated has changed virtually nothing. They had nothing, there was
nowhere to go so most of them continued to work for their former owners in the same way, under
the same conditions. Very few managed to “break out”, gain wealth, become successful people,
especially in a world where there were no more slaves, but not many people considered them
human. For a very long time, black communities typically lived in a deep poverty.

“Racism is the greatest threat to democracy”, this quote describes that there is no tolerance for
example, no connections between people. It is time to make America a place where all people are
equal, does not matter what race they are, where they come from or skin color. “Racism does not
want dialogue, diversity and peaceful coexistence, but only hatred of others and dominance over
others”, it fills people with “horror, anger, mourning and incompetence. Democracy is system
where everyone is equal. “How can racism be dealt with within in democracy?” - there are several
answers to this question but stopping racism is like having world peace. The way as it goes back in
the history, it has never been something we could completely stop. There were plenty of
“demonstrations” in the streets, even under a pandemic. People started to act up which is a very
good thing.

As for the conclusion, I have analyzed the U.S. history and got to know a little more, also that
racism has been in America for a long time now. The history is very long and there are many
important people who did make a change, never gave up and worked for their goals. Democracy-
racism and world peace is still a big question for the future
