What’s the meaning?
A pronoun can take the place of a noun or another pronoun. Pronoun
makes sentences less repetitive.
Personal pronouns are used in place of the name of the specific person or
people being talked about and changes its form to indicate person, number, gender
and case. A pronoun must match the noun to which it refers in the sentences.
Personal pronouns have:
• Number: they are singular or plural.
• Person: 1st is the person speaking, 2nd person is the person being
spoken to, and 3rd person is the person being spoken about.
• Case: Determines how a pronoun is being used in the sentence
(subject, object, or possessive)
You can look at the chart below for examples.

Personal Pronoun
Subject Object Possessive
Singular Plural Singular Plural Singular Plural
1st Person I we me Us my, mine our,
ours
2nd Person you you you You your, yours your,
yours
3rd Person he, she, it they him, her, it them his, her, their,
hers, its theirs
Cases of personal pronouns according to its uses in the sentence.
A subjective personal pronoun indicates that the pronoun is acting as the
subject of the sentence. The subjective personal pronoun are I, you, she, he, it, we
and they.
Examples: I was glad to read about Jose Ignacio Paua.
You are surely lucky to know him.
He helped in the revolution.
She knows about the bravery of Paua.
They wanted to thank him.
We will talk about his courage.
It is our topic.

An objective personal pronoun indicates that the pronoun is acting as an

object. The objective pronouns are me, her, him, it, us and them.
Examples: The teacher wanted her to read the story.

the verb wanted)

(The pronoun it is the direct object of the verb gave)

to)

(The pronoun her is the object of the infinitive to see)

A possessive personal pronoun indicates that the pronoun is acting as a

marker of possession and defines who owns a particular object or person.
Possessive personal pronoun are mine, yours, hers, his, its, ours and theirs.

Examples: The book about Paua is mine.

(The possessive pronoun mine functions as a subject
compliment.)
It is yours.
(The possessive pronoun yours functions as a subject
compliment.)

What can I show?

Read the following paragraphs. Circle all the incorrect pronouns.

Then rewrite the paragraph, making sure all pronouns are correct and match their
nouns.

Yesterday i went to the store to buy some food for my dog, Brownie. Mr.
Santos greeted her when I came through the door. She said, “What can me do for
you, Sheila?” “I need six kilos of the Beef and Chicken Special Diet.” Mr. Santos
added up the prices and said, “The total is P 510.00.” “Me am sorry,” I said. “My
mother only gave I P500.00. How much is it if me only buy five kilos?” “Let’s see. It
would be P425.00,” he said. “All right. That solves my problem. She’ll only buy five.”
