Once your child has held an Intermediate Permit he/she may apply for full driving privileges at age 16 1/2 provided they have completed an approved drivers education course and their driving privileges are not suspended. All minors may apply for full driving privileges at age 17.

How to Apply
Before an Intermediate Permit can be issued, your child must meet the following requirements:
Driving Restrictions
Once issued an Intermediate Permit, your child:
!" Must be 16 years of age. !" Must have held an Instruction Permit for
a minimum of 10 days.

There are exceptions provided for drivers who have special needs:

May drive beyond the designated hours when accompanied by a licensed driver 18 yrs or older, OR when required to drive for a medical necessity or emergency, OR when required to drive to & from work, or to & from school, school/religious activities. Must have the appropriate individual complete and sign an Exception form to certify the holder needs to drive beyond the restricted hours. This form must be carried by holder at all times while driving.
!" Must pass a vision screening, and a driving skills test.. Completion of an approved Driver Education course may be honored by the department to waive the driving skills test.
