NARRATIVE REPORT
After Ms. Kusonlawat, Ma. Lorraine Abriza followed suit and went on to discuss
her chosen advocacy topic, Women’s Rights in the Philippines. Ms. Abriza enlightened
the whole assembly with her knowledge about the current issues and concern related
when it came to Women’s Rights and showed a heart touching short film relating to
violence against women. Miss Niña Valerie Talagtag discussed her own topic shortly
after, Gender Identity and Equality in the Philippines, where she shared her own opinion
about feminism and a bit of her experiences about how she dealt with gender
discrimination. Mrs. Dianne Cullar also encouraged the students to help spread gender
awareness.
Ms. Yra Frago discussed her topic about Mental Illness next. She raised
awareness among the audience and elaborated how mental illness can affect anyone.
Ms. Frago also explained how having a mental illness wasn’t wrong and should not be
discriminated for having it. Mr. Vincent Gaa took up the platform last and opened his
topic by saying that it was a topic that most people found boring, compared to the ones
who went first. But nonetheless, he shared and discussed his views on his chosen
advocacy topic, Malnutrition among Young Filipinos, accompanied with a short film.
Once Mr. Gaa had finished, the forum officially had come to an end. The
presenters had given their token of thanks to the commentators, Mrs. Montalbo and
Mrs. Solis, and took a few pictures with them.
Talksilog, a forum on social issues, was intended to be a 2-day forum. During the
second day of the forum, two presenters were not able to present their advocacy due to
lack of time. The commentators, Mrs. Sherryl Montalbo and Mrs. Dianne Cullar,
requested to end the forum for that day and continue it on Monday, May 22, 2017 for it
was getting late. The forum during second day ended with Vincent Earl C. Gaa
presenting.
On May 22, 2017, an event was happening in the Audio-Visual Room. It was the
first day of the DevCom Days.Even so, it did not stop the forum from happening. The
forum, Talksilog, was placed in between the event, after the viewing of trailers of the
entries for the CINECOMM. It was around 3 pm when the forum started. Mrs. Montalbo
and Mrs. Cullar were not available during that time, so it was Sir Eiroll Manalo who
acted as commentator.
Ms. Jane Eroa started to present her advocacy first. Her advocacy was about the
causes and impact of migration. Many students were able to relate to her advocacy
especially because her topic also speaks about OFW’s. Some students even shared
their own experiences of having OFW’s as parents. After presenting her advocacy, Sir
Manalo gave a few insights about the topic. Then it was Martin Aguilar’s turn to present
his advocacy. His advocacy was focused on the responsible use of social media. He
discussed topics like cyberbullying, identity theft, ad hominem fallacy, and the spread of
fake news. After his presentation, Sir Manalo gave again his insights about the topic
thus officially ending the forum, TALKSILOG: USAPANG NAKABUBUSOG.
After the forum, the program for the DevCom days resumed.
