MIDTERM EXAM 2nd SEMESTER, SY 2022 MA 203:
FOUNDATIONS OF EDUCATION
The following are the Guide Questions for your Midterm Examination. Answer each question
comprehensively. 20 pts each.
1. Articulate the importance of understanding the psychological background of your learners in the
teaching-learning process under the K-12 curriculum.
Our education main stakeholders are the learners, where in it is in the hands of the teachers to build an
individual, working and functioning wholistically. That in the end is the treasure of each community and the
nation. With today’s educational system that is highly complex, as a teacher we need to choose the best
learning approach that will work for every learner. The consideration of all children is unique, special, and
different is one of the main foci of an effective teacher. From the focus of the intellectual, behavioral and skills
related aspect comes with another factor that needs guidance. The mental or psychological end of every learner.
As a SHS teacher for 6 years and having a background of psychology during my nursing years, psychology
always comes or interrelated with the human growth and development. Wherein, to fully grasp an individual
learning and inform instruction process, interaction by a teacher and learners are essential. Because of this the
diagnosis becomes clear and in depth understanding of the problems of the learner, given meaning to help the
educational stability of our student. Building trust and connection is one of my directions to help the most need
learners nowadays. One example that challenge me is dealing with a student having psychological needs
because of the pressure of continuing education versus the kind of life in their environment. I was able to
identify the need and help of my student. Daily home visitation and extending my time to monitor is one of the
factors why my student succeeds on this problem. Enlightenment of teachers in the consideration of the
activities, constant updates can help students psychological well being that remind them that they are never
alone in this journey. That is why my background in psychology is one of my greatest tools in answering my
students fears and questions nowadays. In the end we need the affective and listening heart to help and reach
the most need learners of our locality and our nation.
2. Relate the concepts of the different developmental theories in the analysis and understanding of
the nature of the teaching-learning process in the K-12 curriculum.
A change in the development of every child can be observed thru different developmental theories
stipulated by the different philosophers and psychology experts, which are important to understand that will
serve as the best education and guidance for our learners. The major child developmental theories that need to be
address into series of observations can identify if a child is on a normal stage of each process or not. Such
theories centers on various aspect of development including social, emotional, and cognitive growth. That aims
to identify how a child develop behavior that is acceptable and normal to the society, emotions that are right and
be controlled within the self and towards other, and the way a person analyze, think critically in life. The study
of this human development is rich and varied. For example, personal experiences in relation to development has
a difficult level to understand, how and why people tend to react, understand, grow, and learn with this. The
behavior of our learners can be understood if we have a foundation in understanding thru age, family
relationships or individual temperaments. Therefore, these developmental theories can be a key in understanding
the learners and the community. Theories of development can be a framework for thinking about human growth,
and learning. A view of every human being by our thoughts and behavior and understanding of these are
windows into the learner’s insight of life, himself/herself and the society.
3. Make a SWOT analysis to demonstrate critical reflection on the strengths, weaknesses,
opportunities, and threats of one Motivation theory you are using as your guide in your teaching.
One motivation theory that I practice for my students in the Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs that shows
this type of SWOT analysis in delivering teaching.

Help my students to solve simple and complex
problems independently and critically.
As a senior high school teacher and adviser, I initially accept the father role for my
students that is why those are the strengths that I put in relation to the Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs. I want to
develop the sense of belongingness of my students, that our room is our home but with rules and regulations
need to adhere and follow. Many opportunities were provided of this type of motivation, which result to
opportunities to them in college life. For the six years of being an adviser some of my students are now in Bicol
University taking up courses they dreamt of. Though abuse the love and care I had given to them still the
positive side took effect.
4. In a table form, state the fundamental concepts of growth, development, and maturation, their
pedagogical implications to teaching and their pedagogical implications on learning.
GROWTH DEVELOPMENT MATURATION LEARNING TEACHING
5. One problem being faced now by the teachers is how to keep their students motivated to do their
tasks during pandemic. Discuss an approach or technique that you can use to make your students’
boost their energy level to participate and do their tasks with passion and motivation in these
difficult times.
One of my approaches in teaching these days is giving awards and appreciation for my students progress
and performance thru a proposal of project and functioning. The project S.P.I.K.E (Students Performance in
Guidance in this K-12 Education) that focuses on the students under my advisory ABM-11. Students who
showcase their creative, values, skills, and independent critical thinking in dealing with the challenges of
distance learning or modular approach. With the help of my co-teachers in identifying the best of the best.
Providing school supplies and certificates to be motivated quarterly.
Another project and product-based movement the Project T.A.N.O.M (Teaching Agriculture for the
Nutrition and Observation of proper Management of lands in school and homes). That targets the integration of
TVL, Science, Environment and Business subjects and dilate the importance of sustaining resources in the
community. Other approach that helps the motivations and concerns of the students to the community is my
other project-based movement naming Y.A.P.A.K, L.A.P.I.S and B.O.T.E that target the needs to help education,
health, and the environment. Because of this type of learning approach my students tend to have critical mindset,
connect with the community, and improve a safe environment, improve belongingness and self-esteem.
