What is a Circle?
A circle is a two-dimensional shape made by a group of points on the
plane that are a constant or fixed distance (radius) from a fixed point
(center).

4
Properties of a Circle
The circle has the following key properties:
 A circle is a closed two-dimensional form that is not a polygon. It
features a single curved face.
 If two circles have the same radius, they are said to be congruent.
 Equal chords are always equidistant from the circle's center.
 A chord's perpendicular bisector runs across the center of the
circle.
 When two circles overlap, the line connecting the intersecting
points is perpendicular to the line connecting the centers of the
circles.
 Tangents drawn at the diameter's endpoints are parallel to each
other.
 A circle can be inscribed inside a square, triangle and kite
 The chords that are equidistant from the center are equal in
length
 The distance from the center of the circle to the longest chord
(diameter) is zero
 The perpendicular distance from the center of the circle decreases
when the length of the chord increases
 An isosceles triangle is formed when the radii joining the ends of a
chord to the centre of a circle

Parts of a Circle

The parts of a circle are the:

 Circumference: It is also known as the perimeter of a circle and is
defined as the distance around the circle's edge.
 Radius: The radius of a circle is the distance from its center to any
point on its edge. A circle has numerous radii since it is the
distance from the center and hits the circle's perimeter at various
locations.
 Diameter: A diameter is a straight line that passes through the
center and links two locations on the circle's border. We should
observe that the circle can have different diameters, but they
must:
 Traverse the center.
 Be lines that are straight.
 At two unique spots opposite each other, touch the circle's
perimeter.

6
 A Circle's Chord: A chord is any line segment that intersects the
circle at two separate locations on its circumference. The
diameter of a circle is the longest chord in it, passing through the
center and dividing it into two equal sections.
 Tangent: A tangent is a line that intersects the circle at a single
point but is outside the circle.
 Secant: The secant is a line that crosses two locations on an
arc/circumference of a circle.
 Arc of a circle: A circle's arc is referred to as a curve since it is a
section or portion of its circumference.
 Segment in a circle: A segment in a circle is the region contained
by the chord and the associated arc in a circle. Minor segments
and big segments are the two sorts of segments.
 Sector of a Circle: The region contained by two radii and the
associated arc in a circle is defined as the sector of a circle. Minor
and large sectors are the two categories of sectors.
