ENVIRONMENT AWARENESS CAMP

A report

10th March, 2013: Our school celebrated World Environment Day on 5th June, 2012. The School Principal, Vice
Principal, Trustees; Staff members, and students were present for the celebrations. The School Principal welcomed
the audience with an opening speech giving an insight to the importance of that day. He made all the spectators
aware of the need to take immediate action to save the environment and Mother Earth. Citing examples, he made
the concept crystal clear for all. He also announced a compulsory project for all students. Each student had to
undertake one environment-friendly action after school hours and was supposed to make a presentation as well. The
project needed to be submitted to the respective class teachers who would rate each student on a scale of one to
ten. All the students looked excited after the announcement of that innovative project.

After which the Vice Principal of the school addressed the audience with an enlightening speech mentioning how
small endeavors could make a big difference. She requested all to spread the awareness of saving the environment.
She ended the speech by saying "Each one can do his bit by stopping the use of plastic bags; stop wasting food, start
using public conveyance to save fuel and to start recycling. For a greener tomorrow, each one needs to do his or her
bit".

The next on the agenda was a play enacted by the students of the Junior School. The students were dressed in
vibrant costumes and through their simple and innocent act portrayed how human beings were causing harm to the
environment and what would be the end result of that damage. The juniors dressed as flowers, butterflies, birds,
etc., looked splendid. The trustees gave away awards to the top three actors of the play.

Next was the most awaited segment, the debate competition for the students of the Senior School. The topic given
was relevant to the celebrations - "What is more important, saving the environment or technological advancement
at the expense of the environment?" The participants were given half an hour to prepare. The debate was an eye-
opener for all. With many valid points highlighted during the discussion, the overall experience was as enriching for
the audience as it was for the participants. The school Principal ended the debate by summarizing the pros and cons
of the subject. The winners of the competition were announced by the school Principal followed by distribution of
certificates and medals.

The celebrations came to an end with everyone pledging to take the initiative of saving the environment and doing
their bit for a cleaner and greener Mother Earth.

Q. Write a letter to your friend an inter school environment awareness camp focusing on plastic pollution ,
highlighting the needs of reduce,reuse,recycle

You may be familiar with the motto from the environmental movement, "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle." These three
actions are all focused on reducing waste, whether through the conservation of raw materials and energy, or the
reuse and recycling of products. You can do your part in reducing waste by watching what you buy and reconsidering
what you do with it once it is no longer useful to you. There are also several simple habits to adopt that will allow
you to consume less water and electricity. Being green isn't time-consuming, it saves you money, and gives you a
sense of satisfaction from making environmentally friendly choices.

Q. Write a report on an environment awareness rally held in your city last week

Report on Environmental Rally 2015

This year, we at Carmel Convent High School have chosen the project “Grow Green and Keep Clean”. The students
are made aware through morning assemblies and are encouraged to keep the classrooms and campus clean. In
order to extend this awareness in surrounding areas, we decided to arrange an environmental rally in our
neighboring thirty three villages. In this direction we motivated our teachers, students , ex- Students and P.T.A
members.

We divided our students of Std VIII and Std IX , our teachers, P.T.A members and ex-students in four Groups under
various heading such as Mahatma Gandhi, Lokmanya Tilak, Subash Chandra Bose and Dr. Abdul Kalam. On 15th
August, after the flag hoisting ceremony, we had a short programme. We had invited Mr. Andrew Lopes and Mr.
Elias Rodrigues, the tree lovers and Mr. Marshal Lopes, ‘Nagar Sevak’ to inaugurate the Environmental Rally.

Around 8.45 am all the four groups marched forwarded to different directions along with the school band. Each
group visited 8 villages. The people of the villages were already informed to keep the village clean and ready. In
every village two Neem Tree Saplings were planted by the village elders. The street play based on environment was
acted out, banners and posters were displayed and hand outs were distributed. The handouts had slogans in Marathi
and English.

• No to plastic, use cloth bag.

• Save water, save life.

• Life grows, where water flows.

• Let’s go green to get our globe clean

• Use public transport, stop pollution.

• Use paper on either side.

• Grow trees, save environment.

• Clean village – Healthy village

• Litter makes the planet bitter.

• Learn to recycle and use your bicycle.

• Now wastage is future shortage.

The students, teachers and parents enjoyed this two hours trip around the village. They were greeted by the villagers
and given snacks. Around 6000 people were made aware to take care and preserve our environment through this
rally. In every village the students were given responsibility to look after the saplings, which will be surveyed next
year.

Report on Plastic awareness:

In this special occasion of environment day, I would like to tell you about ill effects of using plastic bags, and plastic
equipment. Plastic bags litter the environment. When polythene bags are scorched, they generate toxic fumes and
contaminate the air. Marine animals swallow plastic bags, mixing them for food, and die. Even after animals’ bodies
decay, the plastic bags stay unbroken, and another animal can get offended. We as a nation must have to avoid the
use of plastic.
