1. Introduction

The purpose of this document is to describe how to install a SAM4S Receipt printer driver
for Linux, in detail. The document provides information on installation of SAM4S Receipt
Printer driver on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, 12.10, 13.10 (32 bit and 64 bit) operating systems.

2. Overview

SAM4S Receipt printer driver for Linux can support thermal receipt printing with various
paper sizes along with Cash drawer functionality.

3. Prerequisite

SAM4S Receipt printer driver with Linux support and has been tested on the following
distributions of Linux:
 Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 32 bit
 Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit
 Ubuntu 12.10 32 bit
 Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit
 Ubuntu 13.10 32 bit
 Ubuntu 13.10 64 bit

The operating system should have the gksu package to run SAM4S CUPS printer driver.
Follow the below steps to install this package
 Open the terminal
 Type sudo apt-get update
 Then type sudo apt-get install gksu
It will automatically install the gksu package.

4. Extracting files using GUI

To install this SAM4S Receipt Printer Driver version x.x.x.x for Linux by means of GUI,
the user needs to be a root user.

 Click on the SAM4S_Receipt_Printer_Driver-x.x.x.x-Linux-x86-Install.tar.gz or

SAM4S_Receipt_Printer_Driver-x.x.x.x-Linux-x64-Install.tar.gz archive file to untar 32 bit or
64 bit driver installer respectively to a desired directory location.
[In the fire fox web browser, the setup will be downloaded inside the download folder. Right
click  Open Containing folder  Right click  Open with Archive Manager  Right click
Extract or click Extract  select the desired location  Click Extract]

 Switch to the directory location where the setup has been un tared and double click on the
binary to install the driver.

5. Installation Wizard

 The installation can be performed only in Administrator mode. Type the Administrator
password [sudo user] when prompted.

 Double click on the un-tared binary to initiate the installation of the driver.

 To install the driver, click Yes in the confirmation screen to launch SAM4S Receipt Printer
Driver Setup wizard, click No to cancel the installation.

 Select the printer model from the drop down as shown in the following screen to install the
CUPS printer driver for the model selected.

 Click Next button on the above screen to proceed to next screen as shown below or,
Click on Cancel to terminate installation.

 Select the printer interface type and click the Next button to add the printer driver for the
selected interface type. It will copy all required driver file into appropriate directory.

 Now all files will be copied in to the directory

1. /usr/lib/cups/filter/RasterToSAM4S
2. /usr/local/SAM4S

 After copying is complete, the finish page will show the message Successfully installed
SAM4S Receipt Printer Driver”.

 Click on Finish button in the setup wizard Finish page to complete the installation and exit
the Installer.

6. Adding USB Printer

Following are the steps to add the USB Printer.

 Double click the un-tared setup file to launch SAM4S Receipt Printer Driver Setup
wizard, then select the appropriate printer model from the drop down to install the
CUPS printer driver for the model selected and click Next button to precede to the
following screen.

 Select the USB Printer radio button and click Next button. The following
confirmation screen will appear, click OK button to complete the installation or
click Cancel button to terminate the installation.

 On successful installation the following Setup complete screen will appear.

 Click the Finish button on the Setup Complete screen to complete the setup.

 Then turn-off and turn-on the USB Printer. The SAM4S USB Receipt printer will be
added automatically.

7. Adding Serial Printer

Following are the steps to add serial printer

 Double click the un-tared setup file to launch SAM4S Receipt Printer Driver Setup
wizard, then select the appropriate printer model from the drop down to install the CUPS
printer driver for the model selected and click Next button to precede to the following
screen.

 Select the Serial Printer radio button and click Next button. The following
confirmation screen will appear

 Select the required serial port configurations to add the printer and then click the
Next button to install and add SAM4S Serial Receipt printer. On successful
installation the following Setup complete screen will appear.

 Click the Finish button on the Setup Complete screen to complete the setup.

8. Adding Parallel Printer

Following are the steps to add parallel printer

 Double click the un-tared setup file to launch SAM4S Receipt Printer Driver Setup
wizard, then select the appropriate printer model from the drop down to install the
CUPS printer driver for the model selected and click Next button to precede to the
following screen.

 Select the Parallel Printer radio button and click Next button. The following screen
will appear

 Select the parallel port to add the printer and then click the Next button to install
and add SAM4S Parallel Receipt printer. On successful installation the following
Setup complete screen will appear.

 Click the Finish button on the Setup Complete screen to complete the setup.

9. Adding Ethernet Printer

Following are the steps to add Ethernet printer

 Double click the un-tared setup file to launch SAM4S Receipt Printer Driver Setup
wizard, then select the appropriate printer model from the drop down to install the
CUPS printer driver for the model selected and click Next button to precede to the
following screen.

 Select the Ethernet Printer radio button and click Next button. The following screen
will appear

 Enter the valid SAM4S Ethernet Receipt printer IP address and port number to add
the printer and then click the Next button to install and add SAM4S Ethernet

Receipt printer. On successful installation the following Setup complete screen

will appear.

 Click the Finish button on the Setup Complete screen to complete the setup.

10. Printers & Printer Options

Following are the steps to view installed printers and make changes to printer options

 Click on the Ubuntu Wubi [Marked as red in the image below] icon which is on the top right
of the menu and type in Printing and click on the Printing icon on the dashboard to launch
the CUPS Printing.

 The Printing will list all the available printers.

 Select and right click on the printer, a menu pops up and select Printer Properties from
the menu to open the printer properties page of the corresponding printer.

 Select the Printer Options from the left side menu to view and change various printer options
corresponding to the printer

Make necessary changes on the Printer Options page and Press Apply to save the changes
or Press OK to save and close the Printer Properties window or Press Cancel to discard the
changes.

11. Custom Printer Options

All custom options can be changed only from the CUPA web admin page and not from printer
property page; following are the steps to reach the CUPS web admin page.

 Launch the web browser and go to the CUPS web admin page address
(http://localhost:631) and then click the Print tab in the CUPS web admin page as shown in
the following screen

 Select the SAM4S Printer from the list, the following screen will appear.

 From this above screen, select the Set Default Options from the Administration drop box.
The following screen will appear.

11.1 Setting Custom Paper Size

 Select the General tab, then click the Media size drop box and select the custom option. The
following screen will appear.

 Enter the valid paper size corresponding to the units selected, then click the Set Default options
button to save the custom paper size.

11.2 Emulation Commands

Emulation command options are only available from the web admin page (http://localhost:631).

 Select the printer from the web admin page and click the Emulation commands tab. The
following screen will appear.

 Enter the valid printer commands, and then click the Set Default options button to save Start
Doc and End Doc emulation commands.

12. Uninstalling Printer

Following are the steps to uninstall SAM4S Receipt printer driver from the Linux system

 Click on the Ubuntu Wubi [Marked as red in the image below] icon which is on the top
right of the menu and type in Uninstall SAM4S and click Uninstall SAM4S Receipt Printer
Drive Lik fro the dashboard.

 Type the root password when root access windows shown to open the Uninstall wizard.

 Uninstall confirmation message will be shown as above, click Yes to uninstall the driver or
click No to terminate the uninstallation.

 All installed SAM4S Printer will be removed from the system automatically.
