Reflection on The Book of Daniel
The movie entitled “The Book of Daniel” is one of the most promising movies ever seen. It has a very top notch cinematography, the main characters are perhaps chosen to portray the roles with the conviction to take us to the cultural, historical, and actual events that happened during the captivity of the Israelites at Babylon under the reign of King Nebuchadnezzar. Above all, what I appreciate the most is the biblical validity incorporated to the movie. I admire so much the authenticity of the movie when it comes to the dialogues and the timeline used that is based on the perspective of the main character, Daniel. It was a nice delivery of characters and narrative that highlight to the biblical accounts. The historical presentation was quite convincing and even the cultural adaptation translated into the movie was very intense and deeply thought. I also appreciate the presentation of the supporting roles of the king of Babylon, like King Nebuchadnezzar and King Darius, as well as the concluding narrative tales of the Persian King named Cyrus that recount supporting details. When it comes to the missionary journey of Daniel and his three friends, it was biblically grounded. Meaning, what was written in the Scripture was greatly translated into the movie. Indeed, I could observe how the originality of the book is used by the creative direction and production of the movie. It was revealed that the Prophets of Israel, particularly the prophecies written by Prophet Isaiah had already prophesied the fate of Israel under the hands of the Babylonians and later on by the conquest of a new power nation led by the appointed King named Cyrus of Persia. Further, this is the judgment of the LORD because of the inequities and sinfulness of the Hebrews against the Almighty God. The people have begun distancing or detaching their faith from God as they worship the foreign gods and goddesses. They forgot the deliverance performed by God in their midst. Instead, their evil schemes, prevalence of injustices, defilement of God’s holy temple, and even the rampant violence and mistreatment of the elites even the priests. The harlotry, sensuality, moral pollution, unfaithfulness, and disobedience of the people are truly the cause of the destruction of the city of Jerusalem. It was an unending continuity of selfishness and vain glory, an abomination in the eyes of the Lord. Corruption and violence, and even decreasing faith even in the midst of the reprimands, rebuke and warnings of the prophets to repent, the leaders of Israel rejected the very message of God. However, it was vividly clear and insightful to revisit the stories of the life, judgments of God towards them, and even their deliverance into the new foreign lands as consequences of their offences and crimes against the LORD. I could learn how God was working through the agency of His chosen people, particularly the life of Prophet Daniel. Daniel was instrumental in the prosperity of the lives of the Israelites in the land of Babylon. They were favored by the king because the obedience of Daniel in the eyes of the Lord. Therefore, even if they are stationed in a different country, a foreign land with many gods and multicultural orientations, Daniel and his friends remained resilient and faithful to honor and worship God; and thus, performing some missionary tasks without complains for 70 years in their captivity.
