this.

Ang Reyna ng Espada at mga Pusa

by John Carlo “JC” I. Pacala

Ang Reyna ng Espada at mga Pusa is a story about Jose Clutario, a

prisoner who murdered his own father. The story revolves about Clutario’s life
in prison. The story is written in Filipino language by John Carlo I. Pacala, a
Filipino writer. The story is about the life of Jose T. Clutario III, a homosexual
inmate who refuses to accept his executive clemency because he ironically feels
freer behind the bars rather than outside, where he feels imprisoned in the
beliefs of the people around him. He was prisoned there for about 4 decades
and executive clemency granted Jose Clutario to release soon. The story
somehow gives the readers a viewpoint of what life prison looks like. The author
also included homosexuality in his work which reflects the idea in the reality
that despite living in a time where being homosexual is already accepted, there
are still people who are not agree and won’t accept gay and lesbian people. The
story shows what challenges homosexual people are facing and their struggle to
come out and be their selves wherein discrimination and violence to these
humans are prevalent in this society. Like in the story, Cultario and Peng was in
the deep relationship. Despite in being a homosexual relationship, it was
portrayed there that everyone was fine with it unlike here outside the prison
walls, and was out in the society, it would be faced with harsh criticism. The
story presses the idea where you can find freedom. Freedom which means, you
can find peace of mind and you do what want. The story also reflects on the
society, the societal attitudes towards homosexuality. Some may agree with
same-sex love and sexuality while others may disagree.
