FUNDAMENTALS OF MARKMANSHIP

Introduction
Firearm, as we know it today, used in reference to hand weapons and other small arms such as carbines, rifles and
pistols, are specially defined as portable guns from which. Projectiles are discharged by means of an explosive. Its history
is broad and its definite origin uncertain, but can be said that its development was triggered by the use of gunpowder, to
the propulsion of projectiles such as rockets, and to field pieces such as artillery.
The term ‘’gun’’ is often used as a synonym for firearm, but in specialist or military use has a restricted sense- referring
only to an artillery piece with a relatively high muzzle velocity, such as a field gun, a tank, an anti-tank gun, or a gun used
in the delivery of naval gunfire. Guns are distinct from howitzers and mortars, which have lower muzzle velocities and,
typically, higher trajectories. Hand-held firearms, like rifles, carbines, pistols and other small firearm firearms are rarely
called ‘’guns’’ in the restricted sense among specialist. In recent centuries, firearms have become the predominant
weapons used by mankind. Modern warfare since the late renaissance has relied upon firearms, with wide ranging
effects on military history and history in general. This created a whole new kind of battle, which molded modern-era
armies.A firearm can be a friend or a foe; it can be an instrument necessary for the protection of life and property. It can
also be an instrument of a devil to destroy life and property, but with proper education, regulations and advocacy about
the proper use of firearms. We will be using firearms as instrument of peace than instrument for war.
The failure to properly enforce gun laws is one of the biggest causes of criminality. Often, members of organized crime
rings such as car jackers and bank robbers have more firepower than responding cops. Clearly, guns are in the wrong
hands in this country
HISTORY OF FIREARM
The early history of firearm has it origins in China. The first references to gunpowder in chinese literature occur in a
daoist text that dates to the mid 800’s Gunpowder was discovered through centuries of alchemical exploration and
culiminated in three formulas for making the substance around 1040 AD.
The barrel of any firearm is considered a ‘’Complete Firearm’’ for all purposes hereof ( Sec. 877, Revised Administrative
Code).
E.O. no. 712
(July 28 1981)
REGULATING THE MANUFACTURE, SALE AND POSSESSION OF AIR RIFLES/PISTOLS WHICH ARE CONSIDERED AS
FIREARMS.m air rises/pistols could cause the death or MAIMING of a person and could use as convenient tools of
criminals in their nefarious activities.
Types of Firearms
Shotgun
– it is usually designed to be fired from shoulder, which uses the energy of the explosive in a fixed shell to fire a number
of small spherical pellets called shot or a solid projectile called slug.
- wide variety of sizes, ranging from 5.5 mm (.22 inch) bores up to 5 cm (2inch) bores.
- They usually fire Shotgun Shot which is small balls of steel, instead of bullets and spreads out when is it fired, making
smaller and moving targets and game easier to hit.
- the BORE of a shotgun (inside of the barrel) is usually smooth, and Shotgun Ammunition is sized by Gauge instead of
caliber found in rifles and handguns.
Rifle
- rifles are long barreled firearms with grooves cut into the bore of the rifle.
- these grooves are called rifling and are where rifles get their name.
- Rifles also are very common firearms, and excellent for hunting game and shooting targets which are far away.
Pistol
- a firearm designed to be held in one hand when used, with the other hand supporting the shooting hand.
- Have higher magazine capacities and more firepower than revolvers.
- Handgun ammunition sizes are Caliber .45, Caliber .22/, Caliber .38
- a firearm designed to be held in one hand when used, with the other hand supporting the shooting hand.
- Have higher magazine capacities and more firepower than revolvers.
- Handgun ammunition sizes are Caliber .45, Caliber .22/, Caliber .38
Revolver
- a repeating firearm that consists of multiple chambers and at least one barrel for firing. As the user cocks the hammer,
the cylinder revolves to align the next round with the barrel, which gives this type of firearm its name.
- Ideal for beginners and women because they are inherently safe, easy to operate, reliable and uncomplicated.
- inherently more reliable than a pistol, it is less susceptible to jamming or malfunction.
- good service handguns for security and law enforcement work.
- usually cheaper than pistols
- have less firepower but are adequate for personal defense scenarios.
- Have a capacity of 5 to 6 rounds.
- Have a capacity of 7 to 8 rounds in caliber .38 special or Magnum .357.
-The cylinder revolves to align the next round with the barrel, which give its name.
What is Ammunition?
Ammunition – refers to loaded shells for rifles, muskets, carbines, shotguns, revolver, pistols and other firearms from
which a bullet, ball shot, shell or other missile may be fired by means of gunpowder or explosives.
- often referred to as ammo, is a generic term derived from the French language la munition which embraced all
material used for war.
Rimfire Cartridges
- Hold the primer in the rim of the base of the cartridge.
- Is generally less powerful than center-fire ammunition, and the caliber of the ammunition is usually smaller than
center-fire cartridges.
-common Rim fire Calibers are .22caliber and .17caliber cartidges, commonly found in rim fire rifles.
Center-Fire Cartridge
- the cartridge primer is held in the center of the base of the cartridge.
- are very common type of firearm ammunition.
- are more powerful than rim fire cartridges and as such they are found in more powerful handguns and rifles.
-commonly used by the Police and Military (high powered ammunition center-fire cartridges provide).
Shotgun Shells
- are for use in Shotguns.
- can either be filled with a single projectile called a shotgun slug, or they can be filled with several smaller projectiles
called shotgun shot.
- have the primer in the center of the base of the shell, similar to the primer in center-fire cartridges. Shotgun shells are
very high power ammunition.
Shotgun Shells
- the lower the gauge of a shotgun shell, the larger the diameter of the ammunition. The .410 Caliber Shotgun Shell is
the only exception to the gauge sizing system, because it was developed much later on. .410 Caliber shotgun shells are
the smallest diameter available, and are commonly referred to .410 gauges.
