Introduction

Good day everyone! I am teacher Vanessa , your Grade 11 Mathematics Teacher.

For today’s lesson I will help you to be Mathinik and Mathibay especially on this topic
“GRAPHING EXPONENTIAL FUNCTIONS”

Today, you will learn how to:

 Represent an exponential function through its table and graph

 Find the domain and range of exponential function
 Graph exponential functions

Are you all ready, then let’s go!

What can you remember about exponential function?

We mentioned that exponential functions ,in mathematics, a relation of the

form y = a x , with the independent variable x ranging over the entire real number
line as the exponent of a positive number a.

Let us remember the properties of exponential functions.

1. The domain is the set of all real numbers.

2. The range is the set of all positive real numbers.
3. It is a one to one function. It satisfies the horizontal line test.
4. The y intercept is 1. There is no x intercept.
5. The horizontal asymptote is the line y=0 or the x axis. There is no vertical
asymptote.
Learners ? Can you still remember how covid virus spread around the world?

Let’s watch this video.

Insert Video about Covid

What have you noticed about the video?

Good Answer!
Meaning the corona virus rapidly increased or spread
exponentially.
And its graph looks like this.
L

Let us try to sketch the graph of f(x)= 2 x

The first step that we will have to do is to construct a table of values. To construct table of
values we need to assign values of x. In this table, the values of x are -3, -2,-1,0,1,2 and 3.

The second step is to substitute the values of x in the function f(x)= 2 x to get corresponding
values of y.

Next is to plot all the above information and join all the points obtained by a curve.

Let’s try another one.

1x
Sketch the graph f(x) =

Again, We are just going to follow the steps.

Construct a table of values. To construct table of values we need to assign values of x. In this

The second step is to substitute the values of x in the function f(x)= 2 x to get corresponding
values of y.

Next is to plot all the above information and join all the points obtained by a curve.

Let’s try another one.

Sketch the graph of f(x)=3 x
