(b) Janet hurls a ball horizontally at speed of 10 m s -1 from a bridge 50 m above a river. By
neglecting air resistance,
i) how long will it take for the ball to hit the water?
ii) calculate the magnitude of the velocity of the ball just before it lands.

(a) FIGURE 1 shows two discs with the same mass travelling perpendicularly to each other.
Disc A travelling with a constant velocity of 50 m s -1 to the right. Disc B has a velocity
of 40 m s -1 just before it hits the disc A and stuck to disc A. Determine the combine
speed of the disc and the direction of the motion after the collision.

A large bowl is made from a part of a hollow sphere. A small spherical ball is placed
inside the frictionless bowl and is given a horizontal speed. The ball follows a horizontal
circular path of constant radius as shown in FIGURE 4(a). The ball moves in a circular
path of radius 14 cm at an angle 30o to the vertical as shown in FIGURE 4(b). Calculate
the speed of the ball.

A simple pendulum consists of a 35 g mass tied to the end of a light string 650 mm long.
The mass is drawn to one side until it is 10 mm above its rest position, as shown in
FIGURE 5. When released, it swings with simple harmonic motion.
(a) Calculate the frequency of the pendulum.
(b) Calculate the maximum speed of the mass during the first oscillation.
(c) Sketch a graph of kinetic energy against displacement
