MY LIFE IN RUINS REFLECTION PAPER
My Life in Ruins is such a beautiful movie; it opens with Georgia, a tour
guide who is constantly dealing with a group of tourists that is difficult to handle. When she speaks, no one pays attention; they always make fun of her, and sometimes they are just being rude. However, she does her best to act professional and understand them because she is aware that this is part of her job. As I can see in the film, the scenario on their first trip is quite stressful. The bus was broken, the air condition was not working, and the motels they were staying at didn't provide high-quality service. The group of tourists she is assigned is particularly difficult to get along with; they easily become irritated, their focus is constantly distracted, and they don't participate in what the tour guide is saying, instead they prefer to take pictures and form bonds on their own. It gets to the point that Georgia loses her temper and acts unprofessionally. It's really difficult to manage a large group of people by yourself, therefore if I were in Georgia's shoes, I could act or feel the same way. It’s really hard to lower your patience when you are already in a part where they don’t listen to you and talks to you inappropriately, but yeah it’s part of their job and they have no choice but to understand it. I am inspired of this old man named Irv, she teaches Georgia how to handle them. I learned that reciting such information about an attraction does not stand out to the audience, what they get interested in is about the stories behind it. Tourist really love to hear such stories that they can relate too, so when Georgia start telling stories they get interested in it and listen. Afterwards, Georgia begins joking around and making a fun acts that captures the tourist. I realized that having a humor and energetic personality where you know how to get along with them can really make you a best tour guide, you don’t just make them laugh but also you gave them good memories. Because of how much enjoyable Georgia is to be around, the tourists have a close bond to her. In this film, Poupi truly stands out for me because he is always there for Georgia. Despite the difficulties, he always makes himself available and follows with Georgia's requests. She cared so deeply about Georgia, which makes me quite happy about their love story. Georgia is a fantastic example of a tour guide. She has a very long patience, something I wish I had, and I adore how she always manages to smile in tough circumstances, which makes me very proud of her. This movie really inspires me a lot and I enjoy watching it, this film teaches us how to stand out as a tour guide and encourages us not to give up if we are already in difficult situations.
