short introduction to Ilocos.
- This takes almost two decades to complete the construction of the church.
- The Augustinian Friars led by Fr. Antonio Estavillo started it in 1694 – 1710.
- This one was made up of coral stone and bricks with 24 buttresses on both sides.
- “Earthquake Baroque” was the design that was seen on this church.
- The three-storey bell tower at the right side of the church was build on coral stones and
Katipuneros used this on Philippine Revolution of 1986 and Filipino Guerillas in World War
II.
- Although it was partially damage during the huge earthquakes happened in 1865 and 1885,
reconstructions and repairs made the church back its beauty again.
- By the virtue of Presidential Decree No. 260, Paoay Church was declared as a National
Cultural Treasure by the Philippine Government in 1973.
- UNESCO or the United Nation Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization designated it
as a World Heritage in December 11, 1993.
Calle Crisologo:
- Calle Crisologo is one of the most beautiful streets here in the Philippines.
- It builds with old-stone houses and antique cobblestone and there’s still a horse-drawn
carriages or kalesas for transport.
- This city was named to the illustrious Ilocano poet, and playwright Governor Marcelino
“Mena” Crisologo.
- Before, this city was named Calle de Escolta de Vigan because residents of these place are
mostly families who profited from the galleon trade that includes Ilocos as the key port but
when Governor Crisologo died in 1927, the street was renamed Calle Crisologo in his honor.
- Vigan took an almost 10 years to be named as a World Heritage Site since it was submitted
consideration in 1989 but later on, it was still awarded from it.
- And lastly, a town that was saved during World War II and the piece of evidence that the
Spanish colonized us for more than 333 years.
Bangui Windmills:
- This windmill was headed by the Northwind Power Development Corp. while Vestas Wind
Systems, a Danish firm, supplied the wind turbine-generator units (WTGs) for the site.
- Bangui Wind Farm project was initiated by a 48 million dollar grant by a Danish
Government or the country of Denmark.
- Phase I was on 1998 while Phase II was on 2008 when its completed, and it has wind
turbines that has a total capacity of 33 megawatts.
- Bangui Wind Farm is one of the greener areas of the Philippines because it was already
excluded tons of CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) that was estimated for more than 56,788.
- Ayala Corporation AC Energy, which was the major share of Bangui Wind Farm in 2021,
became 100% shareholder that was given by the NorthWind in order to strengthen
its portfolio of renewable energy but it is still waiting for the approvals.
- The site consists of 20 Vestas Wind Systems which extend 9 kilometers across the bay’s
shoreline.
- Friendly Reminder that taking pictures here is free and you can get a beautiful shot
beneath one of the giant windmills and these windmills are not lighted at night that’s why
everyone should go by daytime.
Longganisa Festival:
- Longganisa Festival is the first festivity celebrated in Vigan every year which usually
happens every 22nd of January which is also the date of cityhood of Vigan.
- The highlight of the festival is the showcase of cuisines that features their main product,
the Guinobatan Longganisa.
- A festival showcasing the cultural and natural heritage of the town, showcasing the unique
and tasty longganisa products, with the event’s highlights to include the Street Dancing and
the Culinaria Longganisa Cooking and Making Contest.
And it ends our trip here in Ilocos. Although we have limited time roaming and visiting this very
beautiful region, Please don’t forget the word Y in SLAY to Yearn this moment in every second and
minutes that was passed, please remind yourself that we should come back again here in the
future. Again, on behalf of Milimiles Travel and Tour Agency, I’m Altrishia Eve Mendoza, your tour
