CHAPTER III

Research Design and Methodology

This chapter discusses the methods and procedures of research by the researcher’s
together the needed data. It includes the research design, research environment, sources of
data, sampling techniques, respondents, research instrument and statistical treatment of data.
The problem of our research is to know the effects of using YouTube and Video Blog in
the IETI Marikina of BSIT student. We want to know if there are a lot of positive effects of using
YouTube and Video Blog to the students than the negative effects. This would be help to the
students that they can use YouTube in a proper way and yet learning material which they’ve got
a possible College because of YouTube.
We apply descriptive normative method in gathering information to complete the study.
Calmoring (2011) a descriptive normative design provides the facts that are valuable tithe
researchers the data gathered are tabulated, analyzed and interpreted. This is logical and
employed in a study to give meaning and significance to what is being described through
analyzes interpretation and evaluation. These techniques and methods were used because it is
easier to understand and free to express the details about the study to determine the Effects of
the using YouTube and Video Vlog in the affect student of BSIT students.

Method of Research

This research study utilized the Descriptive method. Sherri L. Jackson (2005) stated that
description begins with careful observation. The descriptive approach is more than just data
collection; it is a process of fact-finding the appropriate interpretation. Additionally, whether
these are viewed physically through the use of a questionnaire or poll approach, the results in
this method are acquired from straightforward observing conditions. Patricia Shields (2013)
said that descriptive research is used to “describe a characteristic of a population or a
phenomenon being studied.” It does not provide an explanation for when, how, or why the
features developed. Instead, it answers the "what" query.

Respondents of the Study

Researchers had brainstormed regardless of who would be the respondents. The

respondents will be the 1st and 2nd yr BSIT Students from IETI College. Taken from Slovin’s
Formula, the researchers will need 20 respondents. This study requires 1 st yr and 2nd yr BSIT
Students which contains 10 Male and 10 Females.
For this study, the researcher from IETI College chose to use the Simple Random
Sampling as their main sampling method. Simple random sampling is the process of randomly
choosing a small group of people or members from a larger population. It gives every person or
member of a population an equal and just chance of being picked. One of the easiest and most
practical sample selection approaches is the basic random sampling method. Among all of the
probability sampling techniques, this one is the easiest to understand because it only needs one
random selection and little prior population knowledge. Any research conducted with this
sample should have high internal and external validity and be less likely to be biased by factors
like sampling bias and selection bias because randomization is used.

Research Instruments

The researchers will employ a Likert scale questionnaire in this study, which will be
given utilizing Google Forms and a media platform called Messenger. The questionnaire is a
series of questions that have been carefully developed for a group of individuals to answer to
gather the necessary facts and information. To get the appropriate data needed, the
researchers will use a one (1) series of questionnaire. Part (I) will ask for the demographic
profile of the respondents. The researchers developed a methodology for demographic
profiling, which would include the respondents’ age and gender.

Scale Description
1 Never
2 Seldom
3 Strongly agree
4 Strong

Part (II) is the method of the: Impact of YouTube and Video Blogs Questionnaire. The
researchers were designated to use the Likert scale Questionnaire of Rensis Likert, which was
devised the approach in 1932. The Impact of YouTube and Video Blogs questionnaire consists of
twenty (20) aspects of Impact of YouTube and Video Blogs, whereas it will calculate whether
the respondents’ doings are Strong, Strongly agree, Seldom, Never, for each item using a 4-
points scale.

Direction: For each statement in the survey, please indicate how much you agree or disagree
with the statement by putting a check in the box on the right side of each statement. There are
no right or wrong answers. Your answers will be kept strictly confidential and you will not be
identified.
Scale: 4 – Strong

Locale of the Study

Established in 1988, the International Electronics and Technical Institute. The school
offering courses is BS in Information Technology, Associate in Computer Technology, Computer
Network Administration, and Diploma in Hotel and Restaurant Services Technology. The school
has now 10 campuses located in Alabang, Bacolod, Binan, Calamba, Imus, Las Pinans, Marikina,
Makati, Pasay and San Pedro.
Today, the institution continues to produce high-quality graduates and professionals in a
variety of fields, including criminology, accountancy, teacher education, nursing, and much
more.

Data-Gathering Procedure

In collecting the data, the researchers will be using survey questions related to their
study to understand the opinions of a group of respondents. The survey will be distributed
online using Google forms since face-to-face interaction is limited. Also, to prevent the spread
of the virus through humans and materials, the consolidation of results is quicker and more
convenient. The researchers ensure that they seek the permission of their adviser before
starting to obtain the necessary data. Moreover, the researchers confirm that no respondents
will be forced to answer and maintain their confidentiality.
Statistical Treatment of Data

a) Weighted Mean.
This is used to analyze and interpret – the responses in the questionnaire and weighted
points are assigned for quantitative analysis. The formula is as follows:
WM = ∑ FW / N
Where,
WM = Weighted mean
∑ FW = Sum of the product of the frequency and the
unit weight
N = Total number of respondents

b) Frequency Distribution.
The frequency count was used to present the total responses given for each item in the
questionnaire. The percentage was used to present the portion of the responses that were
gathered aligned with probable answers. The formula is as follows:
P = n / N x 100
Where,
P = Percentage of distribution
n = Number of responses
N = Total number of respondents

c) Pearson’s R.
r = n(∑xy) - (∑x)(∑y) / √[n∑x² - (∑x)² ] [n∑y² - (∑y)²]
Where,
r = Pearson correlation coefficient
x = Values in the first set of data
y = Values in the second set of data
n = Total number of values

The researchers used statistical tools to have a general view of the whole scenario of the
study. This also includes the scaling system, which is used by the researcher as a technique to
monitor the respondent’s interpretation of facts. To ensure a valid and reliable interpretation
of the results, the researchers utilized various statistical techniques.
