Phobias
Have you wondered if there is a difference between fears
and phobias? Well, yes, although they are closely connected but
there are significant variations between them.
What is fear?
When you think there is a genuine and ongoing threat, fear is
a natural emotional response. It makes reason to be frightened
when there is a thunderstorm for example, this dread, in reality,
this gives us a warning or an alert to tell us to be careful. Your
terror will last until the thunderstorm ends.
People’s Fears
People are afraid of circumstances that make them feel
unsafe. For example, suppose someone who is unable to swim. They
may be afraid of deep water. In this instance, the dread is a
beneficial fear because it warns the individual to remain secure.
The person could overcome this fear by learning how to swim.
FEAR OR FUN?
Some individuals find the flow of fear exciting or entertaining.
They might enjoy extreme activities and watch the most
terrifying horror movies meanwhile others dislike the feeling of
being scared or taking chances in the scariest situations or
extreme activities.
What is Phobia?
A phobia is a fear reaction to a thing or situation. Phobias cause
overwhelming worry even when there is no risk. For example, if you
have arachnophobia, just seeing an arachnid on TV can make you
extremely nervous.
Types of phobias
Phobias can arise in response to any item or situation. There
are many different types of fears. They are divided into 2 groups,
and they are called specific and complex phobias. The most common
phobias that people have.
The first step is making a list. Writing down your phobias from
least to greatest. For example: you have cynophobia (fear of dogs)
you can try looking at a photo of dogs or standing next to someone
petting their dog or walking their dog.
Then you try each phobia on the list one at a time. The
individual is not compelled to do anything and works on each phobia
until the individual is at ease.
