TEACHERS’ GUIDELINES FOR INTERMEDIATE LEVEL EVALUATIONS

CLMS REMOTE FORMAT

The following three (3) items listed in this document will make up the 4th additional grade.

A: Graded Book Writing task (GBWT) / graded (0-4)

B: CLMS: Workbook performance / graded (0-4)

C: IC TALKS / graded (0-4)

4th Grade = A+B+C (to be registered according to the Class List Equivalence Scale) 1/45 – 12 /100

Remind SS that rescheduling Evaluated Activities is not an option: being absent or not
participating in these activities will result in a partial grade of “0”. Students that arrive 5 minutes
after the evaluated activity's official start time will not be allowed to participate.

A. Graded Book Writing Task (GBWT)

Aim:

- To demonstrate written competence in different genres, based on the aims and proposals in
section D of the unit(s) instructed in the Monthly Planner)

Description:

- The Graded Book Writing Task takes place in a fixed day stated in your monthly planner.
Remind students that the activity is taken under exam conditions and it cannot be re-scheduled.
Students, who are not present on the set day, will get “0” as grade.

- Teachers are responsible for informing and encouraging students’ participation since first day of
class. Details on evaluation days available in PAIDEA EMPOWER Courses.

- Teachers must create a Folder with the name of the class (Example: II8-7:00am-April 2021) in
Google Drive and share with the students GWT Word Template, via Google Docs (Check Tutorial in
Appendix 2).

- Students and teachers need to be familiar with the Official Rubric (available in PAIDEIA). Rubrics
include Content, Organization and Cohesion, Language, Style & Register as well as Task
Achievement.

- The set day, the teacher and students carry out activities suggested in lesson D of the current
unit you are working on. Then students complete the task in no more than 45 minutes. Teachers
should monitor students’ work using Google docs opening each document and providing any
assistance needed.

- Teachers must assess this task based on the official rubric provided by IC. Teachers are expected
to share this task back to students, via Google Drive (Viewer or Commenter role) within the period
stated in part 4.6 of “Normativa Interna del Profesor”:

- Students and teachers need to be familiar with the Official Rubric (available in PAIDEIA).

Very Important Information! Bear in mind that according to IC Policies, It is mandatory to check
the CALENDAR OF ADDITIONAL EVALUATED ACTIVITIES FOR ADVANCED COURSES (Paideia –
Idiomas) since these activities start at the exact starting time of your class Schedule. If students
connect more than 5 minutes late to the “Graded Writing Task” or they are absent, there is no
possibility to reprogram or reschedule it. Their grade for this missing activity will be “0” (zero).

- Overall Expected Timing for the Activity: 45 minutes book activities + 45 minutes GWT.

Performance Rubric for the GBWT: Check Appendix 1

B: CLMS: Workbook performance (Graded 0-4)

Aim:

- To develop digital skills and reinforce course content with the Learning Oriented Assessment
tool of the Empower series.

Description:

- Teachers inform and encourage students to take an active role in their CLMS throughout the
course. Students can access it either from a tablet, smartphone (to work on their Online
Workbook), and a wired connected PC or Laptop (to take their Unit Progress Tests or End of the
Course Competency Tests).

- Teachers create their classes in the CLMS according to the fixed days instructed in the table and
informing the students to join their classes to let the system keep record of their participation and
performance.

Note: Students have access to their CLMS class to score grades up to midnight (0:00 hours) of the
previous day of your CLMS class ending. Nevertheless, they will still be able to see their grades in
the My Learning Tab – Finished Classes.

- The Unit Progress Tests (UPTs) are part of the evaluation of the students. From January 2021
and on, only the first try will be counted as a legitimate grade. Remind SS to take them timely
within the official deadlines and not to wait until the last few hours of their closing since they will
be risking their grades. At the same time, remind them that they must use a wired connection to a
PC or Laptop, which is a technical requirement published in the official Institutional Norms and in
Paideia Idiomas.

- Every time students finish with a book, it is mandatory to take the corresponding End-of-
Course Competency Tests according to recommendations and technical specifications. Stress on
the fact that it is your SS’ responsibility to read all the guidelines published in PAIDEIA Idiomas.

-For further –not evaluated practice - students have access to Speaking Tests and Mid-
Competency Tests, following the same technical requirements.

-The CLMS grade book will show the corresponding score. This result must be converted using
the 0-4 scale, presented in Appendix 3.

- Keep your students informed of deadlines.

C. IP TALKS – IDIOMAS PUCP TALKS (Task performed in class)

Aim:

- Have students deliver high impact presentations based on intensive reading research and up-to-
date information about any of the topics related to the listening or reading tasks of the
corresponding units of the course. Under no circumstances, presentations will be based on the
students’ opinions.

- Students are expected to show competence in integrated language skills, pronunciation,

creativity and novelty in the design of their presentation, as well as skills to deliver a high impact
presentation. The later implies a natural, well-prepared presentation. Make SS notice that in this
activity, they do not have to “memorize” a text. Do recommend your SS rehearsing their
presentation and having it ready ahead of time.

Description:

- Students should select a topic covered during the course, and make a high impact presentation.
The idea is to resemble a 3-minute talk like the ones presented at TED Talks.

3
© IP 2021 (All rights reserved) Rev. 16

- Guide your students through PAIDEIA and ask them to download the official Rubric of the
activity from PAIDEIA IC.
- Students should be aware of this activity format, date, and rubric, since the first day of class.
- Explain instructions clearly to avoid incorrect or off-topic presentations. When giving
instructions, consider the following points:
- The topic – an expansion from listening or reading tasks.
- The content – based on research, not on personal information.
- The length – 6 slides in 3 minutes (30 seconds each slide with automatic shift)
- The images – pictures must be related to the topic and what is being said, not a general
one.
- Mention the sources and image credits in the slides, as evidence of research and respect
of intellectual property rights.
- A day prior to the presentation, tell students to connect punctually to the session. Remind
them that if they connect 5 minutes after the evaluated activity, they will not be allowed
to participate and their grade will be “0”.
- Their PPTs presentations (with no text, just pictures) must be ready 2 or 3 minutes before
the connecting time.
- The order of the presentation will be at random (a raffle is suggested). The activity is
meant to begin as soon as the class starts.
- Get ready your digital raffle tool. If you prefer to use the traditional system, it is OK.
- While having the presentation, make sure that the student who is making the presentation
has his/her microphone and camera are on.
- Tell the audience that the teacher will ask questions related to the presentation, so everyone
should be ready to answer them. If one SS does not come up with an answer, keep asking
someone else. This process takes place while the next SS gets ready for his/her presentation,
to optimize the activity timing.
- The last PPT slide should contain all the reading sources. Remember that citing your sources is
important while making your presentation. Eg. “According to the American Journal of….”
- Remember to provide relevant feedback to your SS, Be clear and assertive Eg. I liked this...
congrats! but you need to improve this... (check the rubric that has been simplified).

If students
connect more than 5 minutes late to the “IP Talks” or they are absent, there is no possibility to
reprogram or reschedule it. Their grade for this missing activity will be “0” (zero).

Overall Expected Timing of the Activity: 90 minutes all class presentations. Three-minute
presentation per SS plus a couple of more minutes for questions and answers.

 From Intermediate 1 to Intermediate 12, each student presentation must include 6 slides
with pictures without any script. Each slide must be displayed for 30 seconds. Therefore,
the overall presentation per person should not exceed from 3 minutes.

TEACHERS TUTORIAL FOR USING GOOGLE DOCS TO WORK ON YOUR GWT

Days before the activity tell the SS that they need their own google account to work on their
GWT.

**Important: Change the language of your Gmail and Google Account to English before.**

First, go to Google Docs:

Previously, you need to have uploaded the GBWT Word template, which is in Paideia Idiomas, so
that you can select and upload it.

Then, click on Share to start the process of sharing the Word Template for the GBWT
(posted in Paideia) with students

Before the process starts, you must label the document. Here you can write the course and the
student’s name. Then save it. See the screenshot below. If you have 2 repeated classes, you might
need to add the schedule information.

Now, enter the student’s email address and hit SEND.

Once you hit SEND, the student receives an email with an invitation to edit a document. He/She
has to open it and start writing there.

Make sure all the grammar and spelling suggestions are disabled (not checked). See screenshot
below.

Once the student has finished or time is up, click on File - Download and select the format of the
document (MS Word). This will save the latest version of the document into your computer and
this is the final copy that you will assess.

Feedback has to be sent to students according the Official Teachers’ Norm. Be sure to use the
appropriate rubrics to grade.

Appendix 3: GRADE FOR THE CLMS

CLMS Grade Score % - The gradebook will provide the final average based on students’ work on
the platform. Teachers will simply have to convert the percentage to a 0-4 equivalence, using the
conversion table below.

- The system will automatically show the percentage obtained from allotting 100% to the
SS’ work on the workbook. If an End-of-Course Competency Test applies in the course,
30% of the grade will be allocated to the CLMS (if it reaches the corresponding level CERF
level). The other 70% of the CLMS grade will correspond to your SS’ work on the CLMS
platform (online workbook).
