Baltoro Glacier
Climate Change
➢The Baltoro Glacier is located
in the Karakoram ranges in the Baltistan sub-
The Baltoro region of the Gilgit-Baltistan region
of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Glacier
➢The Baltoro Glacier is 63 km (39 mi) in length,
is one of the longest glaciers outside the polar
regions.
➢It is located in the Shigar District of Gilgit-
Baltistan in Pakistan, home to some of the
world’s highest mountains.
➢The glacier runs through the Karakoram
mountain range, close to Chogori or K2, the
highest mountain in the region at 8,611
meters (28,251 feet).
The Effect of Climate
Change
on a Glacier • Since the industrial revolution, carbon dioxide
and other greenhouse gas emissions have
raised temperatures.
• Even higher in the poles, and as a
result, glaciers are rapidly melting, draining
off into the sea and reaching on land.
• The Baltoro Glacier is also one of the world's
many glaciers, affected from this problem
How the Baltoro Glacier is getting
affected?
➢The recent study suggests that the Baltoro Glacier
is moving or expanding in area at the rate of about 6 feet (2 metres) per
day.
➢This is due to the effect of climate change resulted due to the
increasing warmer winds form the upper areas of Asian
mountain ranges.
➢This constant change in temperature will result in excessive amount of
drainage from the Himalayan range, which would cause large scale
destruction through rise in river levels and flooding.
The average yearly temperature change on
the Baltoro Glacier form 1979 to 2021
The Causes of Climate Change
How to overcome the problem of Climate
Change

• The most efficient way to overcome Climate Change is the recycling of gases
before the emission from factories, i.e. using Catalytic converters equipped within
the chimneys.
• The next way is to switch from the unreliable and damaging source of
fuel petroleum, to the environment-friendly Hybrid Electricity.
• Decrease the uneven cutting of trees, avoiding Deforestation, and sustainable
forestry.
• Switching from the Fossil Fuels to renewable energy resources, like Hydro-
electricity, Solar Power, Wind and Tidal Energy, and the Geothermal energy
