1. As future civil engineer, what are your contributions to promote

environmental awareness in our country. Site 5 examples each ---- 50 points
As civil engineers we play a vital role in Sustainable Development. In order to

minimize pollution, civil engineers build structures that minimize air, water, and soil
contamination. Aside from that, they also try to protect human lives from the
increasing danger of weather events that threaten coastal cities as well as inland
residences and businesses. That includes fires, earthquakes, and floods.
The need for solutions to protect natural resources is more urgent than ever.
Global populations are facing a number of critical issues, including a lack of clean
water and rising sea levels. Sustainability is therefore a critical consideration in the
design of both man-made and natural infrastructure. It is civil engineers' job to
design and build stormwater management systems, wastewater collection and
treatment systems, and commercial and mixed-use development projects that
minimize the impacts of human development on natural resources.
Renewable/Recycled Resources
Civil engineers should take steps in using recycled materials, including cement
substitutes, because they have a lower carbon intensity. Moreover, rather than
concentrating solely on decarbonization or using recycled materials, engineers can
use data and tools to make sustainable decisions to capture carbon that is emitted
during infrastructure building processes. Through this method, efficiencies and
performance can be increased while costs, waste, and carbon are decreased as
materials and resources are moved away from the project site.
Green Buildings
In a green building, the structure and processes are environmentally friendly and
resource-efficient through all stages of the building's lifecycle: design, construction,
operation, maintenance, renovation, and demolition. As civil engineers, this kind of
structure and methodology can greatly help our environment recover. This might
be a single step in the future but if everyone would be knowledgeable of this, it will
be one huge step towards the sustainability we are aiming for.
Seminars and Workshops
In the coming years, progression in the country will not fade. In order for us to keep
up with it, the people in our country should also be knowledgeable about what is
happening. Seminars and workshops would be a great help. With it, we will be able
to address problems and discuss the possible solutions that we came up with. Not
only that, we can guarantee that people will also be part of what we are aiming for –
a better environment for everyone.
The Use of Social Media
In today’s world, social media had undeniably become part of people’s lives. It is
now used as a powerful tool to keep up with everything that is happening. With that
being said, social media be part of spreading awareness regarding the
environment. It is not that hard to spread certain information in the different forms
of social media. By using creative minds and hands, we can educate people and
make them realize the truth that is being ignored for many years. “The future is in
our hands”.
Research and Innovations
As engineers, we are meant not only on building structures and infrastructures, but
also in developing innovations and research that could help people today and the
subsequent generations. With the knowledge that we have regarding buildings and
materials, we are the ones that should take the first steps in creating possible
alternatives to making things sustainable.

-promotes the preservation and conservation of the environment through

initiatives and programs on environmental education, advocacy and research,
ecological governance and development works encouraging public participation
towards a sustainable society.
I chose this organization and its program because of these reasons:
Like other organizations, they promote things that will surely benefit our
environment. From what I have seen, other organizations are focused on our
resources, like water and air, which is not bad. What they differ is that PCEPSDI has
more goals they look upon into. They have research and advocacy, development
works, ecological governance, etc. For me, they are into spreading knowledge as
well as awareness that would teach people the proper ways of doing things. I chose
to promote their program since they aim to make sustainable societies in the whole
country. It is very overwhelming to know that there are a lot of organizations like
this that aim to make our country a better version of itself.
3. If ever you will be chosen as the ambassador students for environmental

concerns here in the Philippines. What programs will be prioritized? Give at
least 3 programs and why did you choose it as the ambassador. ---- 25 points
If I will be chosen as an ambassador for environmental concerns, I think I may

choose these three programs: Research and Advocacy, Seminars regarding
Sustainable Development, and Promoting green building.
I have chosen research and advocacy because these can greatly help us in
coming up with innovations that will reduce the negative impacts on our
environment. As we study nature, we gain a better understanding of how our
actions affect it. The more we learn about people, the more we understand why
they do the things they do. The best part is we get to enrich our lives with the
latest knowledge about health, nutrition, technology, and business, to name a
few.
Next are the seminars regarding sustainable development. Defining what a
seminar is, a seminar allows for small groups to meet and discuss academic
topics or required reading, as well as set goals for research and continuing
investigation. By doing this so, we can encourage and teach people what is
sustainable development and how can it greatly affect our lives and the future.
Seminars are significantly used today since it the most desirable choice for us to
spread knowledge among people.
Lastly, promoting green building is definitely a program that should not be left
out. By promoting it, we can spread knowledge to people that they can use to
create a sustainable society. As we already know, green buildings can not only
reduce or eliminate negative impacts on the environment, by using less water,
energy, or natural resources, but they can - in many cases - have a positive
impact on the environment (at the building or city scales) by generating their
energy or increasing biodiversity. With that, we can ensure that things would
work for the best if everyone would be participating.
