1. A copier machine operator claimed that he makes an average number of copies of at least 5000
per day with standard deviation of 75 copies. To make sure that he has enough supplies and
understocking, he monitored the number of copies he produced for 30 days which was noted at
an average of 5105. At a .05 level of significance, is the average number of copies produced per
day is different from 5000?

Null Hypothesis:

The average number of copies produced per day is 5,000.

Alternative Hypothesis:

The average number of copies produced per day is different from 5,000.

Level of Significance:

0.05/2 = 0.025 (Two-tailed)

Critical Z-Value:

±1.96

Normal curve:

-1.96 +1.96

Decision Rule:

Reject the null hypothesis if Z < -1.96 or Z > 1.96; otherwise, do not reject the null hypothesis.

Calculate Z-Value:
𝑥̅ = 5105
𝑥̅ − 𝜇
𝑍= 𝜎
√𝑛 𝜇 = 5000

Conclusion:

Reject Null Hypothesis, 7.67 > 1.96. Which means there is enough evidence to support that
the average number of copies per day is different from 5,000.

Recommendation:

To make sure that he has enough supplies and understocking, he should have more supplies
in case of making copies more than the said average and efficiently make copies as needed as
possible.

2. A Social Media Agency reported that college students spent an average of 30 hours per week on
Facebook with standard deviation of 2.5 hours. To find out if this still true, a new survey was
conducted among 50 students and reported an average of 28 hours spent on Facebook. At a .01
level of significance, is there average number of hours which college students spent on Facebook
different from 30 hours?

Null Hypothesis:

The average number of hours which college students spent on Facebook is 30 hours.

Alternative Hypothesis:

The average number of hours which college students spent on Facebook is different from 30
hours.

Level of Significance:

0.01/2 = 0.005 (Two-tailed)

Critical Z-Value:

±2.575

Normal curve:

Decision Rule:

Reject the null hypothesis if Z < -2.575 or Z > 2.575; otherwise, do not reject the null
hypothesis.

Conclusion:

Reject Null Hypothesis, -5.66 < -2.575. Which means there is enough evidence to support that
average number of hours which college students spent on Facebook is different from 30 hours.

Recommendation:

The conduction of survey should be done frequently so that the data should be always reliable.
